Devil's Music
65th Anniversary: The birth of a genius (4)
A room full of old opera records and black-and-white frames.
A fat 90s black grandmother was looking at Professor Sharon and Professor Corelliano looking for her with a loving smile. In front of them was the tea and cookies my grandmother gave me.
She looked at the professors sitting around the tea table.
“My busy professors came to see all the old grandmothers. What's the matter? ”
When the grandmother smiled and said with a loving smile, Professor Corelliano said with a puzzled expression.
“Oh, I'm sorry I haven't been around in a while, professor. I promised I'd come often, but I couldn't keep it. ”
Professor Sharon also said in a hurry.
“Professor Price, you know how we feel, thinking like mothers. ”
The black grandmother's name is Leontin Price.
Born in the state of Mississippi as the daughter of a poor farmer in 1927, she was a singer who overcame racial prejudice at the time and became a legendary black soprano, and is now a professor of opera and professor of Julius.
Professor Price said with a smile full of faces.
“Haha, I'm kidding. Even the professors.”
When I saw Price smiling softly, I felt relieved and sighed. Because they were professors who admired each other so personally, they thought they were friendly, but they were very difficult.
Professor Price smiled and wiped his tears, looking at the two of them for a long time.
“Haha, I'm sorry. I haven't laughed in a while because I don't have a lot of time. I can't stop laughing because you two are here already."
Professor Price suddenly asked after drinking a cup of tea on a cough.
“There's no way the old man's coming to entertain you. What are you two doing here? ”
Professor Corelliano sat down to fix his posture.
“Professor Price. Do you remember what you told me about Pymon's scream? ”
Professor Price said with a glare.
“Of course I do, because I once heard the voice of my only rival, Kalas, and I wondered if it was him, but why was Pymon screaming? ”
Professor Korilliano glanced at Professor Sharon and said,
“We heard Pymon scream, Professor. ”
Professor Price opens his eyes and starts laughing louder at Corelliano.
“Yes?? Hahahaha, hahaha."
Professor Price starts laughing and shakes his head, sighing as if he expected it. Professor Corryliano waits for Professor Price to stop laughing. After a long laugh, Professor Price stopped smiling increasingly as he looked at him with a serious look.
Professor Price looked at Professor Korilliano's face for a moment and looked at Professor Sharon sitting next to him. Professor Sharon makes eye contact with Professor Price and nods slightly.
Professor Price asked again when he saw Professor Corelliano.
“Professor Corelliano. Do you know exactly what Pymon screams? ”
Professor Corelliano shakes his head.
“I don't know what's right, but I clearly remember hearing it and realizing it. I've been in music for a long time, too, professor. I didn't come all this way just to talk nonsense. ”
Sharon asked, holding Professor Price's hand.
“Professor Price. I wonder, what the hell is Professor Corelliano talking about, Pymon's scream? Professor says you heard from Professor Price. ”
Professor Price makes a brief eye contact with Professor Sharon, then gets up from his seat and points to one of the American maps behind his desk.
“You two. Have you ever heard of a tribe called Pueblo, which existed in New Mexico, Arizona and Texas? ”
Professor Sharon nods.
“Yes, Professor. I've heard that in 1600, Spanish generals settled Spanish immigrants in New Mexico and only know that there were conflicts. ”
Professor Price glanced at Professor Sharon and said,
“It was 1598, actually. The Spaniards gave them the name Pueblo Indian. Pueblo means" Village "in Spanish. ”
Professor Price approached the couch again, saying.
“The knowledge of Pueblo as we know it is only their cruel history. 600 people died under the pressure of Spain, or cut off the ankles of young people under 25. ”
After sitting on the couch, Professor Price put his hands together and said.
“No one cares about Pueblo's priesthood. They believe that humans came out of the underworld. I think it's our duty to take care of what's on the ground in order to achieve harmony with nature. We now live in different parts of the world, but there is a common event. ”
As Sharon looked at me curiously, Professor Price smiled and said.
“It's a Corn Dance ceremony with lots of rain to make corn grow well. ”
Professor Price looked at the two of them instead of holding the cookie in his hand and taking it to his mouth.
“But there was someone singing in this ritual. It's all gone now. They called the singer Kachina, an intermediary between nature and man. ”
Professor Price sniffs the cookie's scent, then tilts his head down and drops the cookie.
“Huh? I think I gave you an almond cookie. This is a cinnamon cookie. I guess I can't remember because I'm old enough. Hoho”
After the two of them looked at themselves seriously, Professor Price opened his mouth again, looking at the two of them and feeling that they were not in a communal mood.
“In 1675, there was a religious persecution of the primitive faith of Pueblo. This led to the arrest of 47 religious leaders in Pueblo and the hanging of four people. At that time, four people were hanged and killed, and that was their last Katchina. ”
Professor Corelliano asked.
“Why is there religious oppression, Professor? There would have been no forced religious outcry by the Spaniards at the time. ”
Professor Price nodded.
“That's right, it wasn't cannibalism. ”
Sharon asked with a curious look.
“Really?"
Professor Price picked up a glass of tea and smelled it.
“With the mouths and mouths of the Spaniards who had emigrated at the time, there was a rumor that Pueblo worshiped the god 'Pymon.’ ”
Professor Sharon asked.
“Pymon? The Pymon from Solomon's 72nd Demon? ”
Professor Price drank a cup of tea and nodded, placing the glass on the table.
“That's right. That's why such atrocities happened. Anyway, Pymon's scream is the voice of one of Pueblo's religious leaders, the Devil of Catchina. That's all I've heard since I was a kid. ”
Professor Corelliano folds his arms and thinks with a serious face. Professor Sharon also stared at a dazed place with momentary loss of focus. Professor Price turned to them and said,
“Really, really? Pymon's scream. ”
Professor Corelliano nods, his eyes closed.
“I'm sure it's obvious. ”
Professor Price stares straight at Professor Corelliano as if he were trying to determine the truth. Professor Price sighs and leans on the couch, staring at Corelliano with a serious expression.
“I can't help but believe that Professor Korilliano is not the one to say something bad. ”
Professor Sharon asked Professor Corelliano as if he suddenly remembered.
“But, Professor, What happens if that student's voice is true and Pymon screams? ”
Professor Corelliano looked at Professor Price for a moment, then said, looking at Professor Sharon.
“Nothing. Nothing happens. But the three of us are going to see a great musician. ”
It was Professor Price who broke the three silences that were momentarily static and in different thoughts.
“I'll keep that in mind as well. In fact, having that voice is not the only problem. Just look at them and guide them so they don't leave anything out. ”
The two professors who slightly nodded asked Sharon holding his hand with a smile again.
“By the way, Sharon? What did Daniel ask for three months ago? ”
Sharon sighed.
“I haven't solved it yet, professor. I'm trying a lot of things. And Professor Corelliano here is helping. ”
Professor Corelliano sighs.
“It was easy to see, but it only hurt Daniel Weiss. ”
Professor Price smiled at them.
“If it were an easy problem to solve, Daniel would have already solved it, since he was less than 60 years old and became the CEO of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. By the way, I don't remember very well, so what was the favor? ”
Sharon said.
“Among the many museums in the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, there is an exhibition called the 19th-century Museum of Fine Arts, where over 3,000 paintings of famous artists, such as Van Gogh, are stored. We added sensors to audio guides that were given to guests visiting the museum a while ago to calculate the time spent per gallery, and we found that they traveled quite fast through a prestigious 19th-century museum. ”
After taking a short breath, Professor Sharon said:
“Daniel Weiss said he changed the interior and changed the location of the painting to solve the problem. But this problem is still not solved, so he asked me to change the music in the museum. But I couldn't tie people's feet to any music. ”
Professor Corelliano shakes his head.
“At first, I thought we were running out of music. So I tried to put in some of the most famous musicians in history, but it didn't work. ”
Professor Price nods.
“That's a shame. You two have been through a lot. ”
Professor Price stood up after holding both hands tightly.
“I'll bring more tea. ”
Professor Price followed the tea to the tray and suddenly smiled.
“Would you like to try this? That student you were talking about. You said guitar, right? ”
Sharon nodded and said.
“There's a rumor that the music itself was perfect. Why don't we get the student to play? ”
Professor Corelliano shakes his head.
“It's an art museum, Professor. I can't say it worked because the performer stopped playing. ”
Professor Price nodded and agreed.
“I see. My thoughts were short. Well, what if we asked the student to think of a way? ”
Professor Corelliano opens his eyes and asks.
“Yes? To a student? ”
Professor Price smiled and said.
“The world-renowned guitarist, Professor Sharon, says he's a kid who's done homework he hasn't done yet, so why don't you give him a chance? ”
Professor Sharon twitched his chin and said,
“I'm sure. I deserve a chance. Even if you didn't play it or write it, it's worth a try at a music selection level. What do you think, Professor Corelliano? ”
Professor Korilliano shrugs and looks at them.
