Chapter 816: I’ll Cover the Rear
The rescue targets were all personally arranged by Lu Chuan.
The most difficult one was Wang Erhu’s family, whom Lu Chuan himself was rescuing. Their family had many strong hands, and there were many neighbors around. Their house was positioned right in the center of the village.
There were dogs at home, making exposure a great risk, and the rescue path the longest.
Cao Bing’s rescue mission was relatively simpler.
The household of the abducted was a family of three.
The abducted person, a man, and a child.
Next door, there was only one other household where the man’s parents lived.
Even though both households were related as son and parents, they were considered neighbors, separated by a low wall, having already been divided into separate families.
Originally, Cao Bin’s rescue mission was going smoothly, as this family didn’t have dogs. After Cao Bing climbed over the wall, he found the doors unlocked.
Inside, the snoring was thunderous, and when Cao Bing entered, the man, woman, and child remained asleep.
After spraying the mist, Cao Bing woke the woman up, stating his identity as a police officer.
This woman wasn’t as agitated as the one on Lu Chuan’s side and didn’t pick up a kitchen knife.
She simply kissed her child’s face twice, got dressed, and followed Cao Bing to leave.
But unexpectedly, as they were leaving, they ran into the mother of the man next door coming out to relieve herself.
She was carrying a flashlight, seeing everything clearly immediately.
Cao Bing, wearing a combat uniform and night vision goggles, was temporarily blinded by the flashlight.
The woman’s shouting alarmed the old man inside, who came out, grabbed a hoe from the corner, and started swinging it at Cao Bing’s head.
At this critical moment, Cao Bing’s vision finally recovered, and he dodged with a roll.
However, the old man relentlessly continued to chase and hack.
Cao Bing fired a warning shot, halting the old man’s actions.
"Don’t move! You’ve broken the law by trafficking humans. If you move again, I will shoot!"
Cao Bing wasn’t a rookie; he had to act decisively at this point.
He shielded the woman and retreated step by step out of the yard.
And there, he saw Lu Chuan running in from a distance.
"Captain Lu!"
Seeing Lu Chuan, Cao Bing’s tense heart slightly eased.
"Take them and leave quickly!"
Old Fu’s shout and Cao Bing’s gunshot had already woken up many villagers. By the time Lu Chuan arrived, many were already pushing open the gates.
At this moment, they must absolutely avoid another confrontation, or else no one would be able to leave.
Cao Bing could fire a warning shot to scare the old man, but he couldn’t possibly really shoot.
Lu Chuan handed over the woman he was rescuing to Cao Bing.
"Hurry up and retreat!"
"I won’t make it in time, don’t wait for me!"
At this time, Cao Bing followed Lu Chuan’s instruction, immediately running with the two women.
Behind them, about a dozen people already emerged with flashlights.
If Lu Chuan didn’t stay to cover them, they wouldn’t outrun the villagers behind them with the two women.
Eventually, if more and more people gathered, truly no one would make it out.
So, Lu Chuan really had to stay behind to cover them.
Bam!
A punch knocked down the old man chasing them.
Although Lu Chuan couldn’t shoot, he could fight!
The man wielding a hoe was aggressive, but no match for Lu Chuan.
"Murder!"
"The police have killed someone!"
"Everyone, they killed someone!"
The old woman saw her boss knocked down, crying out heart-wrenchingly.
Lu Chuan frowned; he intended to explain but finally didn’t open his mouth.
He merely rendered the old man unconscious, but he was down, and the surroundings were dark; no one could see clearly.
Explanation was futile.
At this moment, the more you explain, the more they think you fear them.
"He’s all alone, let’s all go at him, we can surely take him!"
Someone shouted while about a dozen villagers surrounded them, holding hoes and wooden sticks.
Three younger men, upon hearing the shout, rushed forward waving their hoes.
Lu Chuan pulled out his expandable baton and took action without holding back.
Crack!
Struck the fastest guy on the head, immediately causing a bloody headshot.
"Listen up, I’m a police officer, here to rescue trafficked women and children!"
"You’re now obstructing law enforcement, which is illegal!"
"Anyone incited again, I’ll show no mercy!"
The villagers were aware Lu Chuan was a cop.
But they weren’t strangers to confrontation with the police, ultimately slinking away.
Though today this policeman seemed different, they didn’t believe he dared to be lethal.
So the young men’s eyes bore no fear, continuing to wave hoes and sticks advancing.
Some even intended to bypass Lu Chuan to pursue Cao Bing and the others.
By now, Cao Bing had run less than a hundred meters, easily reachable.
Seeing his warnings ineffective, Lu Chuan charged forward, fighting fiercely.
The young men, relying on youthful stamina, were no match for Lu Chuan.
Lu Chuan bashed on several joints with his expandable baton.
In no time, someone was incapacitated.
Bang!
He picked up a fallen hoe, tossing it to trip up a villager chasing Cao Bing.
Lu Chuan was no longer holding back, opting for offense.
With the rewarded combat skills from the system, these villagers were merely communal rabble.
That was why Lu Chuan dared to stay behind.
With his skills, twenty or thirty villagers couldn’t even lay a finger on him, allowing him to cover Cao Lin’s convoy’s final efforts for escape.
Moreover, he wasn’t afraid of leaving by helicopter.
Alone, traversing mountain roads posed no burden.
The villagers could never catch him.
As long as he left the mountain, reached the township, whoever pursued faced arrest!
As Lu Chuan counter-attacked, three to five people hit the ground.
These villagers then gradually developed fear, starting to retreat.
Their courage to intercept police or confront them lay in knowing cops wouldn’t violate the law to harm them.
But this officer was different, hitting hard. Over ten villagers were groaning on the ground.
"Old Li didn’t die!"
Suddenly someone shouted that Old Li wasn’t dead, as the elder knocked by Qin Luchuan stood up wobbly.
"Not dead?"
"Police didn’t kill?"
Seemed like giving themselves an out.
Whispers circulated among the crowd.
Only Old Li’s wife cried loudly.
"My daughter-in-law was taken!"
"Everybody, the wife we bought with tens of thousands was taken, charge..."
What injury indeed.
The villagers were naive but not dumb.
This officer was skillful, unavailable for closer contact.
Who would approach to get beaten?
Those on the ground had their limbs probably broken.
Besides, it wasn’t their daughters-in-law taken.
Rumble!
From afar, the helicopter pierced through the darkness, making Lu Chuan exhale in relief.
The helicopter’s arrival meant a safe withdrawal.
"If anyone dares follow, I’ll break your legs!"
Lu Chuan scanned the area, seeing no one advance, eventually turned around and left.
