Chapter 2554 - 2555: Layers of Mist
Not only Feng Yuan, but even Veronia and the others didn’t expect to see this research content here. War Qi Chen’s face turned gloomy, for research in this area was scarce in the War Timeline, mainly because the Main World relies more on Divine Beasts rather than conducting its own research.
While there are Spirit Beasts with corresponding Attributes, it’s wishful thinking to use them for research in this area. Superior Attributes aren’t simply about the differences in Order.
Superior Attributes themselves belong to critical rules. Normally, even Spirit Beasts with corresponding Attributes, using those Ultimate Moves, are just like a player executing a skill in a game—knowing how to perform it but clueless about its principles and reasons.
Only Divine Beasts, even those not governing these rules, have a certain understanding to provide explanations.
Of course, after acquiring some understanding of time rules, subsequent research doesn’t necessarily need Divine Beasts’ involvement. However, as a tributary timeline, the Qi Realm Timeline inherently lacks Divine Beasts, making it impossible for them to achieve the initial breakthrough from nothing.
"This truly is astonishing. Hmm, this place can even provide answers to such things?"
Veronia snorted skeptically questioning the authenticity of the laboratory, for at the moment, they’ve only seen a sign labeled Time Dimension Laboratory, and it’s uncertain whether they truly have research in this area.
"Let’s go in and take a look. Hopefully, it’s just a false alarm."
Taking a deep breath, Feng Yuan walked through the laboratory doors. Unlike other laboratories, the interior had no research equipment but resembled a meeting room, with a giant cylindrical device standing at the center of a U-shaped long table.
Approaching through the gap in the circular table, Feng Yuan quickly found the switch to activate the device. The activated device lit up instantly and projected a map. Upon seeing the map, not only Feng Yuan, but everyone broke out in cold sweat.
"It seems it’s not just a false alarm after all."
Glaring at the map, Veronia stated with a gloomy face. Although it was uncertain about its accuracy, the map depicted the Qi Realm Timeline to the Main World in a two-dimensional format. No, not just the Main World; it also marked the War Timeline and the Imperial Timeline.
The map was simplistic, as dimensional issues prevented it from accurately describing the entire Time River’s situation. Nevertheless, it startled Qi Chen and the others.
"A map of the Time River?! I remember even the Alliance doesn’t have this thing!"
Qi Chen recognized it at a glance because it contained the paths they followed when tracking the attackers, though the paths differed slightly from those depicted here.
"It seems the connection between the Qi Realm and the attackers is deep. At least I don’t believe humans outside the shallow layers have such capabilities."
With a serious expression, Feng Yuan pondered, touching his chin. If there was such ability, Qi Realm Dou Yanlan wouldn’t claim ignorance about everything outside the timeline.
Yet, if so, it’s intriguing since the Qi Realm shouldn’t possess its own will. Could this map be filled in by Dreams Come True?
Nevertheless, the cost of this thing must be significant, though that’s secondary. Importantly, Feng En likely never considered this, so why does such a high-cost object appear here?
"From the map, it seems to be the common map of the Qi Realm; however, displaying the Time River on a common map? Haha, the Qi Realm truly is complicated."
Veronia scrutinized the map carefully and soon spotted a detail—it wasn’t specifically targeted at the Time River but rather the Qi Realm. Due to it being a Time Dimension Laboratory, the map defaulted to maximally displaying the Time River.
"The Qi Realm possessing a Time River map... No wait, a map only exists when a civilization needs it; why does the Qi Realm have a map?"
Touching his chin, Feng Yuan found the questions multiplying; though a Qi Realm map might not be costly, the implications raised added to his headache.
Maps are used only by intelligent civilizations. Even Spirit Beasts generally don’t attempt to create such things. As for Ultimate Moves capable of forming maps, essentially they are rules realizing the user’s request based on their idea.
If the concept of a map didn’t exist, exploration and path-finding Ultimate Moves might manifest differently.
But, if inferred this way, does it mean civilization exists within the Qi Realm?
"What would a Qi Realm Civilization look like? It’s truly intriguing."
Veronia likewise pondered this. Without civilization, maps cannot exist. Suggesting maps arose due to surface-world humans is a low probability, given their limited understanding of the Qi Realm.
"What exactly is this Time Dimension Laboratory researching? I don’t believe a single map constitutes the research content, especially since this map likely isn’t their research outcome."
Puzzled, Feng Yuan found himself overwhelmed; the things displayed by the laboratory were anything but simple, encompassing the Endu Tragedy and Catastrophic Phenomena within the Qi Realm Timeline and the Time River map within the Qi Realm.
"Seems it’s encrypted. Feng En’s identity can’t unlock it."
Veronia tried operating the terminal but failed to access the information. Just as Feng Yuan was about to speak, the terminal device suddenly exploded.
"Careful!"
Feng Yuan, sharp-eyed, saw what triggered the explosion before the smoke spread. No, precisely what destroyed the terminal.
A long spear emitting a black glow descended from the sky, struck the terminal device, triggering the explosion. Feng Yuan wasn’t sure who the attacker was, but he knew they came with malice, possibly linked to this research lab.
With a wave of his hand, nine small black shields swirled around Feng Yuan. The Ancient Black Book turned its pages automatically, golden Runes emerged but did not empower Feng Yuan. Instead, they encircled the Mythical Era Projection where Qi Chen and the others were.
They had no choice; unlike Feng Yuan, Qi Chen and the others couldn’t operate within the Deep Layer of the Qi Realm. If the Mythical Era Projection were breached, Qi Chen and the others might be doomed.
Eclipse roared, transitioning from illusion to reality. It didn’t alter its form to accompany Feng Yuan; instead, it adopted a Subspace traversal method, ignoring the laboratory’s structure and closely following Feng Yuan.
Now needing to fight, Eclipse naturally had to detach from this state. The Time Dimension Laboratory’s ceiling was torn off by Eclipse, its enormous body coiled in the air. Eclipse directly summoned black stars, miniature stars burning with black flames drifted in Eclipse’s vicinity, turning the near-ground space as if into a Starry Sky.
Without any flashy effects, all forces wandering in the Eternal Dark Starry Sky vanished without a trace except those originating from Eclipse. A man clutching a spear barely managed to descend to the ground in time, lest he meet the same fate as his giant eagle, which had disappeared instantly.
The man gestured, and the spear piercing the terminal flew back to his hand. Holding a spear in each hand, he scoffed, and behind him, seven spears fanned out, floating as a formation. With fiery red eyes, he suddenly lunged at Feng Yuan, swinging his spears.
The seven spears behind him simultaneously flew out, but they didn’t target Feng Yuan; instead, they aimed at Veronia.
"Tch, bullying the weak and fearing the strong, aren’t you afraid of hitting a steel board?"
Noticing their disregard for Eclipse, Feng Yuan sneered without reservation, and the nine small shields quickly combined into a Giant Shield, slamming forcefully on the ground.
With a crisp loud noise, the man’s spears were stuck on the Giant Shield. Watching the pierced Giant Shield, Feng Yuan wasted no time waiting for the opponent to apply force to break it; wielding the Dark Scythe, he acted swiftly.
The Dark Scythe naturally overwhelmed the ancient-looking spears. Seeing his spear cut in half, the man hastily retreated, gesturing with his hand as one of the spears embedded in the ground flew back to him. The remaining six continued towards Veronia.
"I really want to kill you now."
Speaking coldly, Veronia, slightly angered, transformed into the Crystal Queen.
