Chapter 2556 - 2557: Deeper Layers of the Qi Realm
After turning over the entire Deep Layer of the Qi Realm, Feng Yuan and his group unsurprisingly encountered projections of others’ Qi Realms. However, with Veronia’s experience, she directly sealed those projections, so they didn’t affect their actions.
Unfortunately, after a round of searching, they still didn’t find a way to enter a deeper layer.
"That’s odd. Clearly, there’s a deeper layer in the Qi Realm, yet we can’t enter it. Eclipse, see if there’s a way to analyze the spatial structure and descend by disrupting it."
Feng Yuan touched his chin and looked at Eclipse. As a Guardian of the Yin World, Eclipse’s abilities far surpassed those of Divine Beasts. Even though he didn’t have the spatial attribute, he could achieve things that even Space Divine Beasts couldn’t.
Analyzing spatial structure is a very tricky task for Space Divine Beasts. It’s not merely about spatial layers; but rather, it involves analyzing the very composition of space. Once the analysis is complete, disrupting the spatial structure becomes quite easy.
However, even for Eclipse, analyzing spatial structures would take a long time. At least, Feng Yuan couldn’t gauge how long it would take Eclipse to deal with this area’s analysis, which is why he hadn’t suggested doing so before.
"Corruption."
Tamur suddenly spoke up, and Feng Yuan was taken aback by this. He looked at Tamur in confusion and asked,
"Are you talking about the condition for entering a deeper layer?"
"The fragments of time told me that to enter deeper, corruption is required."
Tamur calmly said while gently swaying. With eyebrows furrowed, Feng Yuan glanced at Qi Chen and the others, saying,
"That’s unacceptable. I’d rather take the Qi Realm apart than do something like that."
He certainly couldn’t do that himself, not to mention whether it would affect him. If he lost control, it wouldn’t be as simple as the Qi Realm being destroyed; it might even destroy the entire world.
As for Qi Chen and the others, Feng Yuan didn’t want to go down that route either because corruption is a dangerous thing. Besides, the entire Qi Realm didn’t give him a good feeling. Once corrupted, Feng Yuan really didn’t know if he could save them.
"The Calamity Tide is not a natural phenomenon. Moreover, for some unknown reason, the Calamity Tide is becoming active. Perhaps some special condition is activating the Calamity Tide..."
Although the report couldn’t be shown directly to Shiyin, Qi Realm Dou Yanlan still chose to leak it by reading it aloud. Of course, she could argue this point, or rather, if it weren’t for Dr. Feng’s unconventional research, it wouldn’t have been banned from being publicly disseminated.
Therefore, as long as there is a suitable reason, leaking a little bit wouldn’t be punished, provided it does not get leaked on a large scale.
After reading the report, without asking Shiyin’s opinion, Qi Realm Dou Yanlan muttered to herself,
"Though I don’t know what Dr. Feng has discovered, there are indeed many activation theories about the Calamity Tide in his research report. Unfortunately, it is unknown what exactly triggered the Calamity Tide. Otherwise, we might be able to stop it..."
Closing the report, Qi Realm Dou Yanlan looked at Shiyin and said,
"What do you think? Any ideas?"
"Well... could it be man-made? Is there a cult trying to activate the Calamity Tide?"
Suddenly asked by Qi Realm Dou Yanlan, Shiyin hurriedly responded. Seeing that Qi Realm Dou Yanlan seemed dissatisfied with this answer, Shiyin added in panic,
"Um, don’t you think this seems man-made? If it is, wouldn’t it be the work of a cult?"
"Reason? The Calamity Tide doesn’t have anything that can serve as a totem of faith. What benefit is there in triggering the Calamity Tide?"
"Well..."
Scratching her head, Shiyin couldn’t say for sure. Blaming it on a cult was just her subconscious reaction. Truly speaking, she also didn’t believe anyone would actively summon the Calamity Tide.
Just like Qi Realm Dou Yanlan said, doing so yields no benefits. After the Calamity Tide descends, the land turns into a wasteland, and like a natural disaster, it doesn’t yield to reason. Even a cult can’t possibly see it as a faith.
"I must have overthought it."
Looking at the destroyed tombstone, Feng Yuan sighed. Corruption was something he naturally wouldn’t let Qi Chen and the others attempt, so he couldn’t help but think of the broken monument that fell with them. If it were destroyed, would a passage to a deeper layer open?
However, the result was not as desired. At least Feng Yuan’s attempt failed. Even after he destroyed the tombstone bearing his name, there was no change. Granted, no unexpected event occurred from destroying the tombstone.
"Perhaps destroying all the tombstones might yield some changes."
Knowing Feng Yuan was unwilling, Veronia still suggested it despite its impossibility. Turning to Veronia and shaking his head slightly, Feng Yuan sighed, saying,
"It’s out of the question. Destroying this tombstone had no effect; it’s better to wait for Eclipse to act."
Glancing at the sky, Feng Yuan wasn’t worried that Eclipse’s actions might draw too much attention and cause trouble because, even in its current state, Eclipse was surrounded by defensive power.
Trying to ambush Eclipse would surely result in severe injury, not to mention that they had only encountered living creatures in the Time Dimension Laboratory apart from the projections drawn by the tombstones.
"Hmm~"
Eclipse suddenly lowered its head to look at Feng Yuan. After a moment, Eclipse flew toward Feng Yuan, prompting him to exclaim excitedly,
"Ready to go?"
Hovering above the group, Eclipse gazed down at the ground and, amidst the surprised looks of Qi Chen and the others, spoke,
"Below."
"Uh, we can only proceed underground?"
"Cave."
Running his hand through his hair, Feng Yuan said with some annoyance,
"Forget it, you handle it. Just be careful not to destroy Tamur’s barrier."
Glancing at Feng Yuan, Eclipse circled the group once. Just as it seemed like it wasn’t doing anything, the ground suddenly softened, and Feng Yuan felt himself sinking into the soil.
No, it wasn’t just him. Everyone present was sinking. He hurriedly glanced at Qi Chen and the others, only to find that, somehow, Qi Chen and the others were not being swallowed by the soil. Instead, the entire Mythical Era Barrier was descending with them.
Seeing this, Feng Yuan understood what he had to do. Bringing Xiao Ji and the others closer, he swung the Sickle, forming a black spherical barrier as he placed his hand on Xiao Ji’s head, watching the Barrier slowly descend.
Not only did this land superficially resemble flesh, but as he traversed within it, Feng Yuan felt as though he was navigating through some unknown flesh-like organism. Due to the opaqueness of the flesh-like material, Feng Yuan had no idea about Qi Chen and the others’ situation nearby.
However, with Tamur’s protection, Feng Yuan wasn’t too worried.
After passing through the thick flesh layer, the surrounding space suddenly opened up. This was naturally in comparison to the nearly buried state they were in before.
Around them, vein-like structures spread like a web throughout the space. Through the gaps between the veins, Feng Yuan saw Qi Chen and the others also descending slowly, and he breathed a sigh of relief.
Surveying the surroundings, Feng Yuan saw that Veronia also chose to maintain a Barrier to avoid direct contact with the environment. As for Eclipse, Feng Yuan couldn’t locate where it was.
What is that guy up to again?
Feng Yuan muttered inwardly, not overly worried. Their descent was orchestrated by Eclipse. If it had issues, there would surely be changes.
The further they descended, the broader the view became. With the vein layer behind them, they were enveloped in a thick, white mist that even Feng Yuan found hard to see through with just the naked eye.
"This mist is strange, isn’t it? It seems... glowing?"
Grumbling, Feng Yuan glanced at Xiao Ji beside him. The latter clung to Feng Yuan’s side, afraid of being suddenly separated. The Fluffy Fire Wolfhound stood patiently, though its wagging tail and twitching ears indicated its agitation.
Just as Feng Yuan was about to shout and ask Eclipse, the mist suddenly vanished. No, to be precise, they transitioned out of the mist layer.
"This is..."
Staring at the tranquil forest and village below that appeared as if under moonlight, Feng Yuan was stunned. How could there be such things in the deep layer of the Qi Realm?!
The babbling creek by the village and the turning waterwheel gave Feng Yuan an illusion of habitation. No, it might not be an illusion.
The tools stacked by the fields and the creatures resembling livestock in the shelters seemed to confirm the presence of "human" life traces here.
Gradually descending until they touched the ground, Feng Yuan only felt the force pulling them down disappear. Dispelling the Barrier, he looked at Qi Chen and the others and said,
"Don’t cancel the barrier. The pollution here is more severe."
One could say that if it weren’t for Feng Yuan’s inherent strength, even he might succumb to the influence in this place, much like the now somewhat lethargic Veronia.
