Chapter 2592 - 2593: Memories and Them

Feng Yuan still somewhat believed Tamur’s words, after all, he had to admit that the other’s divination abilities were quite useful at times.

The labyrinth was immensely vast, even with the Map Yoa deployed, the group continued to wander through this colossal maze. The remnants of various memories deeply affected Qi Realm Dou Yanlan, yet Dou Yanlan and the others couldn’t fathom what the other party truly intended to do.

War Qi Chen noticed a certain detail, which was that some parts of those memories seemed off, or perhaps those memories were not being unfolded from the perspective of Qi Realm Dou Yanlan.

However, considering that he himself didn’t know what had occurred or been experienced between the Dou Yanlan of this world and himself, he refrained from speaking.

Compared to the time Qi Realm Dou Yanlan had once spent working with Peculiar Realm Qi Chen for quite some time, War Qi Chen and War Dou Yanlan were far less fortunate.

In the tumultuous war timeline, there was little room for romantic sentiments. War Qi Chen sometimes wondered in confusion whether holding onto memories like this was truly her wish.

He always thought this was a betrayal of the past, but... seeing the memories along the way, he oddly wavered.

With a glance at Bai You grasping tightly onto his arm, War Qi Chen sighed inwardly. He wasn’t dense; he was aware of her thoughts, but... he couldn’t promise anything, so... he didn’t want to hold her up.

Extinguishing the spark before it was born, perhaps that was the best way...

Oddly, a tinge of envy rose in War Qi Chen’s heart; the version of himself in the Main World seemed luckier than any of them, or perhaps it was precisely because of his fortune that their situation across other timelines was so...

Blame? For reasons unfathomable to the other party? War Qi Chen wouldn’t be that naïve. Resent the heavens? The heavens hadn’t taken any action, or perhaps this was all just his own conjecture, even if it might very well be true.

War Qi Chen understood well that even though the version of himself in the Main World was in a different situation, it wouldn’t change anything for them; the War timeline wasn’t altered by individual will, as it was inherently a war-torn realm.

Even this timeline followed the same pattern; unless he switched professions, no amount of fortune would prevent him from encountering the inevitable mishaps.

Suddenly shaking his head roughly, War Qi Chen smirked self-deprecatingly. He hadn’t expected to also be influenced by these projections. Sighing, War Qi Chen turned his gaze towards Qi Realm Dou Yanlan.

She had seemed dispirited since earlier; unavoidably ensnared by memories, even he was affected, let alone her, knowing these were all memories shared with him.

Bai You suddenly tightened her grip on War Qi Chen’s arm, causing him to smile helplessly. Feng Yuan looked quizzically at the two leading the way, since Bai You held the Map Yoa, she and War Qi Chen led the group.

Of course, if Feng Yuan were to lead, it wouldn’t take up as much time as they were spending now with no end to the labyrinth, given that Feng Yuan’s Divine Sense wasn’t restricted by the maze.

However, Feng Yuan suspected that doing so would mean they wouldn’t see the scattered memories within the labyrinth, perhaps this was what the Soul Projection intended?

Filled with bewilderment, Feng Yuan didn’t entertain the thought of leading the way; perhaps charging straight to the exit wasn’t necessarily the correct approach.

Dou Yanlan, looking at the surrounding memory fragments, felt little emotional impact. There was no help for it—the time she knew Qi Chen wasn’t especially long, unlike them in the other timelines, who’ve experienced much.

When seeing those projections, even though they depicted her and Qi Chen’s experiences across different timelines, in Dou Yanlan’s eyes, they were akin to ordinary television dramas; perhaps the only difference was the protagonists being her and Qi Chen.

It’s not that she was overly rational, but past training allowed Dou Yanlan to easily control inappropriate emotions. After all, while it’s not necessarily bad for a commander to be emotional, allowing emotions to sway one’s actions impulsively would be a significant flaw.

What exactly did she aim to accomplish? An attack on the mind? Yet these could only affect the Qi Realm Timeline version of herself; she couldn’t believe that the other didn’t understand who amongst them was the strongest in combat power.

Whispering inwardly, Dou Yanlan couldn’t quite grasp the other’s intentions; these memory projections weren’t naturally occurring, expending power to interfere with the Qi Realm Timeline version of herself—what was the point?

Not speaking of Feng Yuan, just Veronia and others far surpassed her in the Qi Realm Timeline. These minor tricks might at best remove combat power from this timeline’s version of herself, but... then what?

They never expected anything from the other, or rather, their dependency was always on Feng Yuan and his Divine Beasts—didn’t the other see this as a futile endeavor?

Or perhaps... the other had different intentions?

Incomprehensible, Dou Yanlan truly couldn’t make sense; the situation now surpassed mere intelligence loss, various signs indicated that the Soul Projection of Qi Realm Dou Yanlan had significant issues.

At least, the other’s logic of action was completely different from the Soul Projections they had encountered before.

No matter what... trying to harm Qi Chen and the others was unacceptable!

Thinking inwardly, Dou Yanlan didn’t act rashly; regardless, her power wouldn’t have much impact on the entire battle unless borrowing Mythical Transformation power to decide victory in one blow.

Feng Yuan and Qi Chen perhaps were the only ones among them not confused by these memory projections; after all, Feng Yuan had witnessed far too much—even if he tried to forget, these memories belonging to others found it hard to stir his emotions.

As for Qi Chen, it was even simpler; he watched those memories like a television drama—having never lived those experiences himself, naturally, he felt nothing, nor did he ponder what might be hidden behind them.

Veronia and Tamur were entirely indifferent to this, since these memories held no real meaning for them, and they didn’t enjoy watching these stories devoid of dramatic ups and downs, even if they were vital fragments to the parties involved.

Perhaps due to the influence of the memory projections, the group traveled silently, like strangers hardly exchanging words except during confrontations with incoming enemies.

"After so long, we finally reach the exit. I wonder what’s ahead; hopefully, it can be resolved directly, and if we find another maze even larger than this, I might truly flip the table."

Sensing with Divine Sense that the exit was near, Feng Yuan couldn’t help but sigh, to which Veronia glanced at him and retorted

"You should have done this long ago."

"Haha, I have a hunch something bad might happen if I do, though I’m not sure exactly what."

Scratching his head, Feng Yuan said with a glowing smile, and the others just glanced at him, silent. As for whether Feng Yuan had the capability of flipping the table, they couldn’t confirm for sure, since his strength varied—sometimes strong, sometimes weak. However, facing enemies, Feng Yuan’s strength seemed consistently superior.

"Why didn’t you say this earlier? We’ve already wasted too much time here."

Qi Chen said speechlessly to Feng Yuan, having not considered Feng Yuan had the strength to flip the table. Since the guy would typically act decisively in past battles, he instinctively assumed Feng Yuan was inactive because of lacking strength—yet...

"I refrained because I have a premonition—this isn’t a problem that brute force can simply solve; or rather, a violent breakthrough leaves some issues beyond my capability to manage."

Spreading his hands, Feng Yuan said earnestly, surprising Dou Yanlan and Qi Chen. War Qi Chen sighed, looking from Bai You to Qi Realm Dou Yanlan, saying

"So, it wasn’t just my imagination."

"Maybe my premonition is wrong, but I won’t gamble on that possibility. Some things, once missed, are irreparable."

Feng Yuan gave a meaningful glance to War Qi Chen, at which Qi Realm Dou Yanlan gave a slight bitter smile, saying

"So, what is my Soul Projection truly thinking?"

"Even I... don’t understand if my heart harbors so many chaotic thoughts."

"But... this has to end here!"

Recalling the uniqueness of her Soul Projection, Qi Realm Dou Yanlan couldn’t allow it to persist, as her existence posed a huge threat to her country and their friends and family!
