Chapter 2638 - 2639: Advice
Feng Yuan did not send the Shallow-Dwelling Octopus directly back to the Fortune Full Building. Unfortunately, an incident occurred, and even though he had given it emergency treatment, the Shallow-Dwelling Octopus’s condition was still not very good. After all, it had suffered such a powerful Psychic Shock head-on. If Feng Yuan hadn’t had some means, it might have been gone immediately.
As a result, Feng Yuan could only send it to the official Spirit Beast treatment center in Maomu City. This place primarily serves the Beastmasters of the Maomu City combat sequence. Technically, Feng Yuan was not part of this combat sequence, but thanks to his contributions to Maomu City, they did not refuse to help.
On his way back from patrol, Qi Chen unexpectedly ran into Feng Yuan at the entrance of the department store. Seeing that the octopus was not with him, Qi Chen curiously asked,
"Feng Yuan, where’s the Shallow-Dwelling Octopus? Did you send it back?"
"No, something happened. It’s in emergency treatment now."
Feng Yuan shrugged with a helpless look as he spoke, and under the puzzled gazes of the other two, he recounted the tale of the Fantasy Stance. After listening, Qi Chen and Dou Yanlan exchanged a glance full of relief.
They couldn’t help it; they hadn’t expected the Qi Realm Stance to conceal something so dangerous. But upon careful reflection, it seemed reasonable, as it had shown signs of malevolence from the beginning, not to mention that the Fantasy Stance obviously belonged to a Mutual Destruction method.
Yes, in their eyes, that move was meant for Mutual Destruction. Although the Psychic Shock was terrifying, the increase in strength was absurd. Even if one completely lost their rationale in that situation, Sacred Beast Level power, when facing even a massive army from the Imperial Timeline, could inflict severe damage.
"I say... you guys aren’t interested in that thing, are you? I have to warn you, the after-effects of that thing are severe, so much so that it’s hard to recover once used. The Shallow-Dwelling Octopus is fine because it was dealt with immediately, otherwise, it couldn’t have withstood the shock."
Noticing Qi Chen and Dou Yanlan’s slightly off expressions, Feng Yuan had no choice but to lower his guard and warn them both. He had to, as this wasn’t a joke. Had he not used the Ancient Black Book to obscure rules and leave special power within the Shallow-Dwelling Octopus, Feng Yuan wouldn’t have had time to save it.
The Fantasy Stance directly targets the soul. Despite the numerous Spirit Beast healing methods available now, there aren’t many treatments for the soul.
Of course, Long Boduo and his kind are likely adept at this, as few Ghost Series Divine Beasts aren’t proficient with souls. But then again, normal people can’t find them.
"Sorry..."
Scratching his head, Qi Chen instinctively apologized. Feng Yuan looked at the two of them, sighed, and said,
"What’s been going on with you two lately?"
"You seem to be in an unusual state. You never used to chase after power like this, especially to such an obsessed extent. This doesn’t seem like you."
Previously, Feng Yuan had vaguely sensed something might be on their minds. Now, he was sure something unknown to him had occurred; otherwise, why were they like this?
"Well, I..."
Touching his head sheepishly, Qi Chen stammered and failed to explain. Dou Yanlan sighed and said,
"In the past, we weren’t worried because there were always taller people to hold up the sky for us. But... with recent events, we’ve realized that some things... no one will handle for us. Moreover..."
"Uh, so you’re like Xiao Ji used to be? Honestly, such a fanatical pursuit of power is a risky mindset."
Placing a hand on Xiao Ji’s head, Feng Yuan commented with a hint of frustration. Xiao Ji glared at him, refusing to yield, while Fluffy Fire Wolfhound curiously observed Xiao Ji, wagging its tail.
By the time it joined, Xiao Ji had already mastered a certain combat power, so the hunger for strength wasn’t as intense.
"I’m not saying it’s absolutely wrong. Facing a dire situation and realizing one’s powerlessness might be more regretful. But..."
Unlike Xiao Ji, Qi Chen and Dou Yanlan were adults. Feng Yuan couldn’t make decisions for them. Although dangerous, during wartime when disasters could strike at any moment, seeking greater strength wasn’t necessarily wrong. Better that than facing a crisis without enough power and only having regrets, right?
"However, regardless, Fantasy Stance’s power is not something within your reach. It’s best to dismiss this idea."
Even so, Feng Yuan still warned them. Fantasy Stance is unlike other high-risk methods; it directly affects the soul. If used, even Feng Yuan would find it tricky to resolve, as the difficulty of treatment increases significantly over time.
He didn’t want them to choose such a drastic means of power. Moreover, he wasn’t aware if their Beast Tamers had strong Fantasy Stances. After all, Fantasy Stance power entirely depends on the influence and reputation of those figures.
Feng Yuan wasn’t sure if Qi Chen and Dou Yanlan’s Beast Tamers possessed strong Fantasy Stances. Familiar villains like octopuses and such are relatively well-known, but something like a Treant Lion, Feng Yuan really didn’t have much impression of its strength.
"Want to join me for dinner at Fortune Full Building?"
Seeing the two remain silent, Feng Yuan smiled and offered. Qi Chen glanced at Feng Yuan, shook his head, and said,
"I think dinner should be ready at home, sorry."
"Haha, no need to apologize. I’ll head out first then."
"Oh, right, you’d better not be thinking about the Fantasy Stance. Do your Beast Tamers really have noteworthy matching images?"
Before parting ways, Feng Yuan solemnly warned them again, as their state was slightly off and Feng Yuan didn’t feel comfortable explicitly telling them to give up. So he could only warn them about particularly dangerous areas, and whether it was effective, he didn’t have other solutions.
He couldn’t outright forbid them from interacting with the Fantasy Stance, right? After all, he was just a friend and didn’t have the authority. As for regretting telling them about it...
Feng Yuan was certain that Fantasy Stance’s matter wouldn’t remain secret. Since it’s highly risky, even though Qi Realm Stance research primarily involves official labs, no one could guarantee no private investigations were taking place.
In such scenarios, public warnings are inevitable. If someone still insisted on courting death, that would be beyond remedy.
The folks at Fortune Full Building weren’t surprised not to see the Shallow-Dwelling Octopus with Feng Yuan, as they had already received notification when he sent it for recuperation.
As for blame? That was impossible. The employment relationship with the Octopus was merely a business one. In case of compensation, it was Feng Yuan who would settle with the Shallow-Dwelling Octopus directly, having nothing to do with them.
With Divine Beasts by Feng Yuan’s side, they didn’t worry he was the type to shirk responsibility after causing trouble. Especially facing Wild Spirit Beasts, it was highly unlikely for him to act irresponsibly, otherwise, those Divine Beasts wouldn’t let it pass.
For this reason, they weren’t concerned about the octopus that left with Feng Yuan.
Since he was alone today, Feng Yuan opted to dine in the hall directly. He wasn’t sure of Maomu City’s considerations, but Fortune Full Building had become a complimentary dining venue for Beastmasters who significantly aided Maomu City.
At least, that’s how Feng Yuan’s meal vouchers had come about. Previously, he thought the meal voucher was a one-time thing, but he found out otherwise; until notified of its invalidation, he could always dine at Fortune Full Building for free.
In fact, to accommodate the vouchers, Fortune Full Building had changed to 24-hour operations.
However, because of this, their dishes weren’t pre-prepared in advance. Unless one booked a dining time, food was made to order.
There weren’t any other options, operating 24/7, they couldn’t predict when guests would arrive to dine. Pre-preparing ingredients could lead to waste. Using stale ingredients? Forget it; considering the current clientele were mostly formidable Beastmasters, if taken lightly, consequences would surely follow.
Although the service was slow, Feng Yuan wasn’t in a hurry. Casually scanning the surroundings, he struck up an occasional chat with Veronia and Tamur.
However, Feng Yuan detected something amiss. Suddenly, after a lengthy silence, he turned to Veronia and slowly began,
"I remember... Shallow-Dwelling Octopi don’t have something like a Psychic Network, right?"
"Hmm?"
