Chapter 594: The Son Has Grown Up
The party headed for the Southeast Domain on a Firebird. Meanwhile, at the Qing Zhu Association headquarters, a colossal, azure-feathered bird was about to soar into the sky. Qing Zhu, Wei Yunhang, the Celestial Light Saint, and Aunt Lan were seated on its back.
"So, it’s finally appeared..." Qing Zhu murmured, gazing at the distant sky. From her expression and tone, it was clear she knew what the ruin was and had been waiting for its arrival.
The sudden appearance of the mysterious ruins had thrown all of Lin Yun’s plans into disarray. Compared to these ruins, the business in Fire City could wait.
Lin Yun’s intuition told him that the ruins were very likely connected to Qing Zhu. He even thought back to the seemingly useless fragment he had helped her retrieve from the Mysterious Forest.
Back then, Qing Zhu had sent Lin Yun into the Mysterious Forest to retrieve that fragment. Judging by her behavior, it must have been very important. ’Perhaps it has some connection to these mysterious ruins...’
’The Fire City business will have to wait. I’ll let the Wei Family have their fun for a little while longer. After all, destroying them isn’t a difficult task for me anymore. If either the Qingfeng Saint or the Flowing Water Saint makes a move, the Wei Family will be wiped out in an instant.’
After a full half-month of nonstop travel, Lin Yun and his companions finally arrived within the borders of Yanhuang Country.
Looking down at the familiar world below, Lin Yun was filled with emotion. Years ago, he had been a mere ant in Yanhuang Country. Now, after only a few short years, it was no exaggeration to say that the entire country seemed like a speck on the map.
At the Firebird’s speed, it wasn’t long before they spotted the Yanhuang Capital. The capital, which had once seemed so majestic, now appeared rather unremarkable to Lin Yun.
Without stopping, the Firebird flew directly over the Yanhuang Capital. The moment the massive creature appeared in the sky, it caused a commotion among the Martial Artists of Yanhuang Country.
Just three days ago, five Firebirds had suddenly appeared over the Yanhuang Capital. Now there was another one. These were all Tier Four Demon Beasts!
It was a shocking scene. The Martial Artists in the Yanhuang Capital were all murmuring amongst themselves, wondering what incredible personage had arrived in Yanhuang Country.
They flew directly over his family home. Since the residence of Lin Xiaotian and his wife was too small to accommodate the Firebird, Lin Yun didn’t have it land. He and his companions leaped from its back, and Lin Yun sent the Firebird to wait in the Imperial City Mountain Range outside the city.
Lin Yun and his group had just landed in the courtyard when a familiar voice called out, "Yun’Er..."
With the call, Zhang Jingxiang ran out of the main hall and threw her arms around Lin Yun. They had been separated for years; one can only imagine how much she had missed her son.
"Mom..." Lin Yun said with a smile, hugging her back.
She looked Lin Yun over carefully. He had grown resolute, mature, and handsome; even the last trace of boyishness he had when he left was gone.
After studying him for a long moment, Zhang Jingxiang finally said, "Yun’Er, I knew you wouldn’t take care of yourself out there. Look at you, you’ve gotten thin."
She fussed over him, chattering on for some time, completely ignoring the people standing behind him. It wasn’t until Lin Yun interrupted her to introduce everyone that Zhang Jingxiang finally noticed Lu Bingning and the other two women.
Zhang Jingxiang already knew Lu Bingning and Lan Xi; in her mind, both were already daughters-in-law of the Lin Family. But she had never met Mo Qingliu. She took an immediate liking to the adorable young woman.
After exchanging a few words with the others, Zhang Jingxiang pulled the three young women toward the kitchen, saying she had to cook a few special dishes to help her son put on some weight.
Watching his mom lead the three women away, Lin Yun couldn’t help but smile wryly, a sweet warmth spreading through his heart.
"What’s so funny?" Li Tian and the others behind him were trying their best to suppress their laughter at the sight of Zhang Jingxiang’s blatant doting. Noticing this, Lin Yun asked testily.
"Nothing, Senior Brother Lin. We should head inside. The Palace Master and the others are probably getting anxious," He Yuntian replied, forcing back a laugh.
Everyone entered the main hall together. Inside, Lin Xiaotian and Luo Feng were in the host’s seats, with the five Supreme Elders seated below them.
For this trip to the Southeast Domain, Flawless Palace had dispatched Luo Feng and five Supreme Elders in total. One Supreme Elder remained behind to manage the palace. As for the Celestial Bamboo Saint, he was, of course, not traveling with Luo Feng and the others.
Lin Yun bowed to Lin Xiaotian and Luo Feng in the seats of honor and greeted them, "Father. Master."
Luo Feng nodded in acknowledgment. Lin Xiaotian, however, walked excitedly up to Lin Yun and looked him over. Then, he burst into a hearty laugh. "Haha, you’re worthy of being my son!"
Lin Yun was overjoyed by his father’s praise, and the two shared a tight embrace in the center of the hall.
After they exchanged a few pleasantries, Lin Yun probed his father’s cultivation and was shocked to discover that Lin Xiaotian had also reached the Celestial Spirit Realm Minor Achievement.
"Father, you’ve broken through to the Celestial Spirit Realm?" Lin Yun asked happily.
A smile spread across Lin Xiaotian’s face as he replied in a booming voice, "I’m your old man; I can’t be holding you back, can I?"
Lin Yun didn’t tell his father about the mysterious ruins. Even Luo Feng and the others didn’t fully understand them yet, so there was no point in telling Lin Xiaotian.
"By the way, where’s Teacher?" After a bit more small talk, Lin Yun realized he hadn’t seen Zhong Lin. He remembered that when he’d left, Zhong Lin had been living with his parents instead of returning to Yanhuang Academy.
"He’s in seclusion, attempting to break through to the Celestial Spirit Realm," Lin Xiaotian answered with a smile.
All in all, Lin Yun’s return brought great joy to Lin Xiaotian and Zhang Jingxiang. They could see their son had grown up, and Lin Xiaotian, in particular, was deeply gratified.
That evening, Zhang Jingxiang personally cooked and laid out a table overflowing with food for Lin Yun and the others. Throughout the meal, she constantly piled food into Lin Yun’s bowl, as if she were afraid he might starve.
The meal was a joyous affair. Afterward, Lin Xiaotian called Lin Yun to the study, while Luo Feng and the others returned to their own rooms.
The father and son sat across from each other in the study. Lin Xiaotian looked at Lin Yun and said, "Alright, kid. Tell me what you’ve been doing all these years."
Lin Xiaotian was both concerned and curious about what his son had experienced while he was away.
Lin Yun briefly recounted his experiences over the past few years, deliberately leaving out the dangerous parts. He didn’t want his parents to worry.
After listening to Lin Yun’s account, a smile formed on Lin Xiaotian’s face. He chided good-naturedly, "You rascal. You didn’t mention a single dangerous thing that happened. But never mind. You’re a man now, not the little boy I used to have to watch over for every little thing."
