Chapter 1423 - 922: College Entrance Exam (Extra - for Alliance Leader Haige’s Lonely World)
In the room, Qingbao was scared stiff at first, but after hearing certain sounds, she immediately let out a sigh of relief.
"Boss is suffering in my place, then he probably won’t yell at me."
"Lucky!"
She’d just sprinted off so fast her phone was still in the living room. She didn’t dare go out, so she could only roll around on the bed, bored out of her mind.
Rolling from left to right, then from right back to left.
"That kind of thing..."
"Is it really that comfortable?" Qingbao muttered, "If it were me, I definitely wouldn’t be up for it."
She kicked her legs twice, smack smack. Then suddenly did a sit-up like a carp flipping, pretending she was a cat crawling around.
Entertaining herself, killing time.
Meanwhile.
Xu Shuang’s whole body arched, then slowly settled back down. Her cheek pressed against a loose lock of hair; the shower was basically wasted.
"Let me catch my breath."
Jiang Nian had already called off the troops, not planning to keep going. If she wasn’t clear-headed later, what were they supposed to talk about.
"It’s fine, you can come again next time."
Hearing that, Xu Shuang felt a bit guilty. She wanted to sit up, but had no strength, staring at the ceiling as she spoke.
"You bought a place in Zhen Nan, right?"
"Mm. For my parents." Jiang Nian said, "A five-bedroom. You can come over for New Year’s dinner."
"Do your mom and dad know?"
"Know what?"
"About us..." Xu Shuang stopped halfway and sat up again, her loose black hair drooping like willow branches.
It slowly gathered around her delicate oval face. Light brows, bright eyes, lips on the thin side, flushed like rose.
And from flat, slowly turning perky.
"Or rather,"
"Do your parents know about you and them? If we all run into each other at New Year, that’d be so awkward."
"They know." Jiang Nian said, face perfectly calm.
"Hm?"
Xu Shuang was genuinely surprised. She nodded seriously. "I originally thought your parents were pretty traditional."
"They told me to get lost and said they don’t have this son."
Xu Shuang: "..."
"Then how—mm." She hadn’t finished when Jiang Nian leaned in, wrapped an arm around her, and kissed her.
After that long kiss, she couldn’t be bothered to ask anymore.
After washing up.
The two of them came out of the bedroom, made some tea in the living room, and sat down. Outside the big floor-to-ceiling windows, the scenery was beautiful and peaceful.
Jiang Nian turned his head and stared for a while, couldn’t help complimenting.
"This place of yours is pretty nice."
"Yeah, well, my grandpa only has one granddaughter—me." Xu Shuang leaned back on the sofa with a self-mocking smile.
That reminded Jiang Nian, and he casually asked,
"What about your little brother?"
"He went back to school. Just recently he told my grandpa he’s going to take the grad school entrance exam, get a PhD, and serve the motherland."
"Hahaha." Jiang Nian laughed.
The future brother-in-law did have some humor; he was basically caught in a hardcore either-or between "is working more tiring or is studying more tiring."
"He’s so annoying, lazy as hell." Xu Shuang took a sip of hot tea and felt her strength come back a little.
Warm and cozy, very soothing.
"Well, yeah. But everyone’s got their own thing." Jiang Nian blew on his tea, and suddenly a thought popped into his head.
So that’s why she’s obsessed with practicing the trumpet?
Jiang Nian shook his head, tossing aside that far-fetched guess. He cleared his throat and switched to today’s main topic.
"You set up the basic structure of the investment company. I’ll be your consultant. We split whatever we earn fifty-fifty, how about it?"
"Deal." Xu Shuang agreed in one breath, then added, "If we lose money, it’s whatever. You don’t need to cover it."
In her head she thought, your son (or daughter) can pay me back someday.
"You short on cash lately?"
"Not really." Jiang Nian’s expression didn’t change much. "The money over at Banyu, I can’t pull it out for the time being."
"I’m idle anyway, might as well do something."
"Oh, oh, okay." Xu Shuang suddenly felt a bit regretful she hadn’t gotten herself into a debtor relationship with Jiang Nian earlier.
Otherwise she wouldn’t be this passive right now.
....
After leaving Xu Shuang’s place, Jiang Nian went back to the studio. He stayed by himself and handled work for a while.
In the afternoon, he ran off to teach class again.
He didn’t get the recipe; that was a bit of a shame. Gotta say, though, Xu Shuang really did seem more full of energy.
Yeah, that was good.
But for now, he’d banned it. First, he wasn’t sure about the side effects; second, this kind of thing varies from person to person.
Take Xiyun, for example—her body’s weak.
So he decided to get it first and look into it. Figure it out, and if it’s viable, just turn it into a supplement.
Jiang Nian didn’t have that skill himself, but he could ask Li Lanying.
You never know.
In a blink, it was June 5th.
"The college entrance exam is tomorrow. Teacher, are you invigilating?" Jiang Nian remembered and sent a message during a dinner gathering.
As for what gathering it was—
A few washed-up study gods had organized a "college entrance exam commemoration" dinner. The idiots from the dorm really had nothing better to do.
"Chao, made any gains lately?"
"Yeah."
Da Chao grinned, holding up two thumbs. "I made two hundred. But I made it off my senior brother. He pays really generously."
Jiang Nian asked, "What about senior sisters?"
"They all have boyfriends, or they’re too far away." Da Chao said. "I thought about it and figured it wasn’t really worth it."
"Nice, son of a businessman." Yang Jingfan gave him a thumbs up.
"And photoshoots?"
"Someone else is doing them. A freshman." Da Chao was a bit speechless. "This gig depends on your looks too. I couldn’t be bothered."
"Whatever the case, you made two hundred." Jiang Nian raised his glass. "Come on, come on! Let’s celebrate your first pot of gold."
"Cheers x3!!"
It was a summer night, and the golden grilled skewers were sizzling with oil. One bite, and they were bouncy, tender, and fragrant, making you break out in a full sweat.
Then glug glug, chasing it with a swig of ice-cold beer.
"This hits the spot!" Brother Bao Song pushed up his glasses. "College is still the best. Back in senior year of high school, life was hell."
"You were guaranteed admission and it was still hell?"
"Still hell."
With a buzz, Jiang Nian lowered his head to look at the phone on the table, briefly zoning out from the dorm chat.
Qingbao: "Yup. (chin in hand)"
"Second-year teachers are the main pool they draw from, no way to dodge it. The good thing is they give us an invigilation stipend."
Dodge?
Jiang Nian froze, thinking Qingbao must be hiding out again. She was probably heading back to the apartment to play games.
