Chapter 2706 - 179: Token of Affection
"Molly...have you agreed to marry me?"
The man hugging Molly Lewis from behind spoke in a low, husky voice.
He had anticipated being rejected for the proposal and knew that saying those words in front of family elders back then had broken Molly’s heart.
Initially, he planned to keep his distance, not daring to approach.
Yet after seeing her again, he couldn’t help but want her by his side.
Abraham Redington prided himself on controlling all emotions, but he found that he couldn’t control his longing for Molly Wellington.
It was his own debt, and he would make amends himself.
If Molly rejected him again and again, it would be understandable. At worst, he’d just keep pestering her.
However, Molly’s response left Abraham unusually dazed for a moment.
Molly, she didn’t intentionally make things difficult for him, she agreed...
"I didn’t agree." However, Molly’s soft voice came through, clearly stating, "Listen carefully, what I said was that I agree to see where this goes, to try dating, which is different from agreeing to marry you."
Abraham’s blue eyes cooled slightly, as he turned the woman who had her back to him around.
His large hands clasped at her waist, trapping her between the sofa and his arms.
"Molly, you agreed to date; isn’t that aimed at marriage?"
Women are emotional and full of hopes for the future.
Even Abraham, who is usually indifferent towards other women, learned in his pursuit of Molly that most women prefer dating with marriage as a premise.
It’s a formal way to date, and also a form of respect.
Molly let Abraham hug her, her fair and smooth face lifted, her almond-shaped eyes slightly raised, vaguely revealing the seductive eyes characteristic of the Wellington family.
"Who says dating must lead to marriage? You know my daddy, he panicked back then. I’m his daughter, and like him, also panic. Dating is dating, it’s not marriage. If it’s suitable, we stay together; if it’s not, we part. It’s that simple."
The eldest daughter of the Wellington family had been a clever and quirky girl since childhood. If she had liked Abraham back then, she wouldn’t have behaved like a doormat in front of him.
These years, she has become more independent and resilient.
Yet it’s also a process of finding oneself again.
When you love someone, you can indulge in it, but when the love isn’t enough, you have to withdraw.
Especially when the other person doesn’t love you, is not worth your love, you must be decisive.
Only then is it self-respect.
This is the lesson Molly learned after what happened back then, and it was Abraham who taught her.
"What you mean is, you agreed to date me, but not necessarily marry?" Abraham squinted, his sapphire eyes gleaming with a cold light.
He always controlled everything, and this was the first time someone turned the tables on him.
Rarely expressing profound emotion, Abraham felt an empty void within.
"Yes...if you feel I’m disrespecting you, second son of the Lucas family, you can take back what you just said. You and I, let’s resume as if nothing happened. We go back to being colleagues, or friends of family."
Molly knew, with Abraham’s proud temperament, these words would probably infuriate him.
But she didn’t want to be the doormat she once was.
If he gets mad, let him. Even if he hates her from now on, it doesn’t matter.
"Don’t you dare—"
However, just as Molly finished speaking, the man holding her tightened his grip on her waist.
Abraham hooked her chin with one hand, looking fiercely into Molly’s dark, bright almond-shaped eyes, "Even if it’s just dating, I won’t allow you to quit. Molly...once this ring is on, it won’t come off. If you’re unwilling to marry me, then let’s date...let the ring serve as a token of affection."
