"You know, weren’t you the one who sent your sister away?" The young woman felt Wen Ying’s voice was like that of a demon come to claim her soul.

"What do you know? Why are you spouting such nonsense! Why shouldn’t I be the one to live? Why was I destined to die from the moment I was born? Is it wrong for me to want to live? No one gets to decide if I live or die! Not them! And not you! Xue’er? Heh, she’s already dead, how could she possibly come back? Doctor Wen, are you trying to say I killed Xue’er? You’re wrong! She was killed by *those* people! It had nothing to do with me!"

"If you hadn’t tricked her into taking your place, you would have been the one sacrificed, wouldn’t you? You knew everything, yet you schemed for years just to have her die for you. How is that not murder? They were the killers, yes, but aren’t you one of them?"

The two young men stared at "Xue’er" in disbelief. "You’re not Xue’er? How is that possible! You know every detail about our time with her. How could you not be her? Did you kill Xue’er? You’d even kill your own sister? You’re unbelievably vicious!"

"Both of you, shut up! We’re all in the same boat now! She’s already dead, and I’m the one in an alliance with you! Are you trying to break our pact?"

The young woman sneered. "And you know the price for breaking a pact, don’t you?"

The two men froze. They had sworn their alliance before some kind of strange plaque.

They had seen with their own eyes what happened to someone who broke it: they’d turned into a cloud of blood mist and vanished from the world completely.

"She won’t protect me, so you two have to figure something out!"

The young woman began to threaten them. Her words were harsh, but they were true.

’Why did we ever agree to make an alliance there? We must have been out of our minds.’

"Doctor Wen, she’s a victim here too! She couldn’t just stand by and wait to die, could she? Everything she did, she did for a reason. It’s understandable!"

Wen Ying looked at the young man who had spoken. He was average-looking, about half a head taller than her, and a little on the heavy side.

"Cheng Shuo, right?"

The man nodded, a dazed look on his face. ’Everyone says this Doctor Wen is impressive,’ he thought, ’and they’re right.’

He hadn’t even introduced himself, but Doctor Wen already knew his name.

’Still, it’s a good thing she’s so capable. It gives us a better chance of survival!’

"Doctor Wen, just name your price. I’m sure I can do it!"

The man declared with confidence.

"I want your sister to leave that place."

The man froze at her words. He had already felt a pang of anxiety the moment she’d mentioned his sister.

’And now... this is exactly what I was afraid of.’

But how could his sister possibly leave?

The man looked at Wen Ying, hesitating, clearly trying to figure out how to change her mind.

Xue’er scoffed from the side. She remembered the disgusted look the man had given her just moments ago. ’So he’s not so clean himself!’ she thought.

The man shot a look at Xue’er, looking like he wanted to curse her out, but he held his tongue. He turned back to Wen Ying. "Doctor Wen, could you ask for something else?"

"Didn’t your sister marry into a wealthy family to live a life of comfort?"

The other man standing with him looked at Cheng Shuo, confused.

But as he watched Cheng Shuo’s expression, the man’s face slowly darkened. "What happened to your sister? What did you do to her?!"

"Fang Yang! She’s my sister! Why are you getting so worked up? Besides, she married into a rich family. Of course she’s living the good life!"

Cheng Shuo shook off his friend’s grip, watching the scene with irritation.

"Did your sister really marry into a wealthy family and live a good life?"

Fang Yang glared at Cheng Shuo, a dangerous look in his eyes.

"Fang Yang, what happened to my sister is none of your business! Besides, we’re in this goddamn fog right now. Can you get your head on straight!"

Hearing this, the wild look in Fang Yang’s eyes did indeed fade a little.

"It’s true your sister married into a wealthy family. But is she really living a good life? Was she truly willing? And was it really a marriage?"

Wen Ying’s three rapid-fire questions made the look on Fang Yang’s face turn ugly again.

"What the hell happened to Xiao Fang?! Tell me, or I swear I’ll take you down with me today!"

Fang Yang’s tone made Cheng Shuo jump.

His expression was panicked. "Don’t listen to her nonsense! She just doesn’t want to protect us, so she’s trying to drive a wedge between us! Fang Yang, get a grip!"

But Fang Yang just kept staring at Cheng Shuo, his gaze unwavering.

He didn’t like Wen Ying, but he knew what kind of person she was. At the very least, she wasn’t a bad person.

She wasn’t a liar.

’So, is Xiao Fang really unhappy?’

"She’s not unhappy," Wen Ying said, as if she had heard the question in Fang Yang’s heart. "She’s just in the Eighteen Layers of Hell."
