Kong Jian pouted angrily. "No one is allowed to talk about Liger like that."

No one could call Liger a jinx or an omen of death.

’If I weren’t trying to avoid trouble, that human would be dead by now!’

The unconscious woman had already been carried away by her own people.

After leaving the provincial capital, Wen Ying took Little White and Kong Jian to the train station.

It wasn’t a holiday, but the station was crowded with people carrying bags of all sizes.

In contrast, Wen Ying and her two companions were traveling light.

Only Wen Ying carried a small bag.

Their three seats were next to each other. Little White and Kong Jian wanted to play, so Wen Ying sat by the window.

In the seats opposite them sat a middle-aged man with a little boy.

The boy was holding a sesame flatbread, munching away on it with gusto.

"Little Bro, do you want some of that flatbread?" Little White asked Kong Jian after staring at the boy’s snack for a moment.

Kong Jian shook his head. ’Can’t just take a kid’s food.’

The little boy seemed to sense her stare. He glanced over at Little White, hugged his flatbread tighter, and turned his back to her.

His chewing quickened considerably.

"Grandpa, a strange girl wants to steal my flatbread," the little boy said bluntly to the man beside him.

’He’s a grandpa already? But he looks so young!’

The middle-aged man looked in the direction the boy indicated and saw the incredibly adorable Little White and Kong Jian.

His eyes practically lit up.

’Such cute kids!’

"Do you two want some flatbread? I happened to buy extra. I can give you a couple if you’d like."

Kong Jian watched the man warily, but Little White nodded. "Yes, please! But I won’t take it for free. I’ll trade you some of my snacks for it."

As she spoke, Little White pulled a package of custard pies from Wen Ying’s bag. There were nine pies inside.

She handed it right over, shooting the little boy a look of disdain.

’See that?’

’I don’t take handouts!’

’You’re the one getting the good deal here!’

The moment the little boy saw the custard pies, his eyes went wide.

He’d had one from the supermarket before. ’It was so delicious!’

Without waiting for his grandpa, the little guy grabbed the bag holding eight flatbreads, ran over to Little White, and shoved it into her arms.

He didn’t forget to take the entire package of custard pies with him!

"We’re even now!" the little boy told Little White, his tone just like a grown-up’s.

Wen Ying couldn’t help but glance at the little boy.

The boy was already back in his seat, tearing open the packaging and eating the delicious custard pie.

His grandfather didn’t seem to mind at all.

Little White gave one of the flatbreads to Wen Ying and another to Kong Jian. Wen Ying didn’t refuse and began to eat.

’This tastes pretty good.’

’But that little boy just now...’

"Liger, there’s something not right about that little boy."

Unexpectedly, it was Kong Jian who had spoken. Wen Ying gave him a slight nod.

Seeing that Liger already knew, Kong Jian said nothing more.

Although Little White was busy eating, she was also listening, and she’d overheard the exchange between Wen Ying and Kong Jian.

’There’s something wrong with that greedy little boy?’

’What could be wrong?’

’Is the problem that he’s just too greedy?’

Little White glanced over at the boy. This time, he didn’t avoid her gaze; instead, he looked at her with the kind of smile you’d expect from a child his age.

It was hard to tell if he was saying hello or just being friendly.

Little White didn’t see anything wrong with him. ’Better finish my flatbread first,’ she thought.

The flatbread was baked, filled with preserved vegetables and a little minced meat, and had a fragrant, crispy texture.

It looked homemade, though; its shape was less perfect than the ones sold in stores.

After finishing a flatbread, Little White turned to Wen Ying, about to ask her what was going on.

"Pretty Miss, my grandpa says kids shouldn’t go to the bathroom alone. Do you need to go?"

The little boy stood beside Little White’s seat, revealing two little canine teeth when he smiled.

The middle-aged man in the adjacent seat seemed to be asleep.

Little White: "???"

’Boys and girls are different, you know. Can we really go to the bathroom together?’

But then she remembered that her sister and little brother both knew something was off about the boy, and she was the only one in the dark. So, she agreed. "Okay! Two kids together make one adult! Kidnappers won’t dare mess with us!"

Little White got up and left with the little boy.

Kong Jian saw Little White put her hand behind her back to wave him off, so he didn’t follow.

Wen Ying, of course, wasn’t worried about Little White. Anyone who meant her harm was the one who should be worried.

Little White followed the boy into the next train car. "Miss," he said, "watch closely."
