’Where is this place?’

’Why don’t I remember it at all?’

Vast, rolling mountains were covered in a thick layer of snow. The trees on their slopes were likewise blanketed in white.

As far as he could see, there was no color other than white.

He winced.

’It seems a little painful.’

’And a little cold, too.’

Little White looked down at his paws. The bloodstains on them were clear, but they seemed to have been frozen, which numbed some of the pain and slowed the bleeding.

’Where on earth am I?’

WHIMPER~

That was the sound that came from Little White’s mouth. ’I can’t speak?’

’I’m in the middle of nowhere... why am I here?’

’And injured?’

’Most importantly, I can’t even talk?’

’I’m not going to die here, am I?’

Suddenly, a gust of wind blew past. Little White felt so, so cold. But he was also hungry, and he wanted to sleep.

But a voice seemed to appear in his mind, telling him, ’You can’t sleep. You absolutely cannot sleep. Don’t fall asleep.’

Little White scanned his surroundings and ran toward a large boulder.

The boulder’s irregular shape created a small hollow against the ground. Little White huddled in this space, sheltering from the biting wind that assaulted his body.

He didn’t know why he was here.

He didn’t know if he had parents, or if anyone would look for him now that he was lost. But right now, he desperately wanted his family to find him.

He was shivering uncontrollably from the cold.

If this kept up, he feared he would die here.

’Damn this illusion! It really is terrifying!’

’It’s stripped me of all my powers!’

AWOOOO~!

But in the next second, he had already forgotten about any illusion.

Animals have a survival instinct. He didn’t want to die here. Gritting his foxy teeth, he picked a direction and dashed off without a second thought.

He seemed to have summoned all his strength, running for a long, long time. But when he finally stopped, all he could see was the same endless, vast white landscape.

’So tired... I’m so, so tired.’

Little White couldn’t hold on any longer. He lay down on the spot and slowly closed his eyes.

But the moment he closed his eyes, that voice appeared in his mind again, startling him awake.

Little White looked around in a daze, and then, for some reason, he began to remember things.

His grandparents, his father, his mother—they were all Great Immortals worshipped by the humans who lived here. Their Fox Clan was one type of Great Immortal.

Little White also had many brothers and sisters, but every single one of them had awakened their bloodline abilities.

Only Little White had not.

After his grandparents passed on into immortality, his parents’ concern for Little White began to displease the other foxes.

Eventually, even his own brothers and sisters started to look at him as if he were trash.

They all knew that when they grew up, they were to become Great Immortals worshipped by humans.

But Little White was universally acknowledged as the clan’s failure.

Although Little White couldn’t awaken his bloodline abilities, he wasn’t stupid. He slowly realized that, except for his mom and dad, none of the other foxes liked him.

His older brothers and sisters had also started to despise him.

This time, Little White had gotten into a fight with the other young foxes and was beaten up.

But his older siblings didn’t say a single word in his defense. Instead, they seemed to think he was just in the way, a burden.

In a fit of anger, Little White had run away.

Now, he regretted it. Little White wanted to go home.

But now he couldn’t tell north from south, and he had no idea which way he had come from.

He had even nearly lost his life.

Looking at the wound on his paw, Little White felt lucky that the big tiger he’d encountered had been sleepwalking. Otherwise, he really would have never seen his mom and dad again.

Little White wanted to cry. Having no backbone, he just let the tears flow.

But the sound that came out was a whimper, "Awooo~." Before his tears could even hit the ground, they froze into tiny pellets of ice.

Startled, Little White immediately snapped his mouth shut.

But the sense of being wronged and the fear in his heart swallowed him like a monstrous wave.

Little White didn’t dare to sleep. He stared off in some unknown direction, hoping another fox would appear and take him home.

But night fell bit by bit, blanketing the vast white snow in darkness. Little White, cold and hungry, still hadn’t seen any fox come looking for him.

Using his injured paw, he dug a small hole in the hollow under the large boulder. Then, after drinking some of his own blood, Little White fell asleep.

He drifted in a daze, unsure how long he had slept. When Little White woke up, he was still greeted by the sight of endless despair.

That night, lightning flashed and thunder roared all night long.

「On the third day」, Little White felt his condition could be described as being at death’s door.

Just as he, in his despair, was about to close his eyes and leave this world for good, he saw his mother.

His mother, covered in wounds, appeared not far away.

Little White used all his strength to let out a whimper, drawing his mother’s gaze.

Nestled in his mother’s embrace, Little White didn’t even have time to say how much he missed her or ask why she had taken so long to find him.

Instead, he heard about the great catastrophe that had befallen their clan.

Their Fox Immortal clan had been nearly wiped out. As for what the catastrophe was, his mom didn’t tell Little White.

His mother only told him, "Little White, Mom and Dad can’t protect you anymore. You have to learn to protect yourself, understand? Leave this place. Go somewhere far, far away."

"I know you’ve always wanted to be worshipped. Mom will help you."

"There, there, my baby. Close your eyes. When you wake up, remember to leave this place. Go far away, to a place where no one knows you."

Little White only felt a warm power enter his body. Overcome by this warmth, he grew drowsy.

And he really did fall asleep.

So he didn’t see the wounds on his body miraculously disappear, nor did he see his mother’s form slowly fade into nothingness.
