Chapter 440 - 441: Identity Exposed
Di Xuan had never imagined that he would die at the hands of his own Patriarch, his body utterly annihilated.
The Nanyang Guard had not expected Di Qiong to react so swiftly either. He obliterated Di Xuan before the man could even finish his sentence.
’As expected of a Patriarch. Truly ruthless.’
Ye Wushuang’s eyes narrowed, taken aback by Di Qiong’s viciousness. Of course, he wasn’t surprised by Di Xuan’s miserable end.
After all, the mastermind behind this whole scheme was none other than Di Qiong himself.
Had Di Xuan exposed him, it would have created a scandal and severely impacted the future of the Seven Kills Family.
That was why Di Qiong wouldn’t have blinked at obliterating Di Xuan’s body; he would have sentenced the man to death by a thousand cuts without a second thought.
"Marshal Menn, Di Xuan was a disgrace to our family. He not only brought shame upon us but also caused this terrible disaster for the Nanyang Guard. It is my failure as Patriarch. I hope you can forgive me."
After obliterating Di Xuan, Di Qiong finally turned to Menn Qi, his face a mask of apology as he clasped his fist in a salute.
"Patriarch Di, I am not the one who deserves an apology. The Nanyang Guard does."
Menn Qi said coolly, his gaze sharp as he stared at Di Qiong.
He was well aware of what had happened. There was no way he would believe Di Qiong wasn’t the one pulling the strings.
The Patriarch of a great family, colluding with bandits to murder the very guards who defended Nanyang City—and by extension, his own Di Family. Such a despicable act was more than enough to infuriate Menn Qi.
However, Di Qiong was the Patriarch of the Seven Kills Family, a clan with deep roots and immense power, so even Menn Qi dared not act rashly.
Di Qiong’s expression turned grim. He knew exactly what Menn Qi was implying—that he, a Patriarch, should apologize to a group of common guards!
’Fine, Menn Qi,’ Di Qiong fumed internally. ’I’ll swallow this humiliation for today!’
Di Qiong’s gaze was dark. After weighing his options, he knew he had to concede. After all, he had already admitted that as Patriarch, the blame fell on him.
Besides, Menn Qi was clearly enraged. As a Yang Destruction Level powerhouse, even Di Qiong had to treat him with some caution.
Furthermore, the Nanyang Guard was the army of the Grand Emperor Country. If this were to be investigated further, the Seven Kills Family could not escape the consequences.
And so, he had no choice but to swallow this humiliation.
He then turned to the Nanyang Guard and said with feigned apology, "It was my negligence as Patriarch that allowed a beast like Di Xuan to commit such an act that angers both gods and men. I apologize to you all on Di Xuan’s behalf. Furthermore, the Di Family is willing to donate fifty thousand Spirit Stones as compensation to the families of the fallen soldiers!"
"You needn’t trouble yourself with the families of our fallen brothers, Patriarch Di," Tan Zhengqing and the others interjected, rejecting the offer. "Their families are our family now. The Nanyang Guard will take care of its own!"
It didn’t matter who killed Di Xuan. So long as he was dead, their brothers were avenged. The survivors would protect their families.
"Farewell!"
Seeing that the guards showed him no deference whatsoever, Di Qiong’s face grew increasingly grim. He shot a cold glare at Ye Wushuang before storming off the training grounds with Fourth Young Master Di in tow.
’The death of a single Di Xuan is insignificant,’ he thought. ’As long as this matter is suppressed, there will be no impact on the Seven Kills Family!’
Ye Wushuang watched him go, growing more wary of the Patriarch. ’The man is far too cunning and utterly ruthless.’
’Since I wasn’t able to kill him today, he certainly won’t let this go.’
SPURT!
The moment they stepped off the training grounds, Fourth Young Master Di’s body suddenly shuddered, and he coughed up a mouthful of blood.
"How can this be?"
Fourth Young Master Di shook his head again and again, his face pale with terror.
"What’s wrong?"
Di Qiong’s face fell as he grabbed the Fourth Young Master.
"Patriarch, I’m crippled!" Fourth Young Master Di cried, looking up with a face twisted in horror. The moment that single word escaped his lips, all the strength seemed to drain from his body, and he nearly collapsed to the ground.
"Patriarch, my meridians were just destroyed by a sudden surge of power! My Dantian is shattered... I’m crippled!"
"It must have been that bastard, Ye Wushuang! It had to be him!"
"I’ll kill him!"
Fourth Young Master Di roared ferociously.
Di Qiong swept his Divine Sense over him, and his expression instantly changed.
"Ye Wushuang, you damned bastard!"
Di Qiong’s rage surged to the heavens, filling him with an unprecedented level of killing intent. Today, the Di Family had lost one member and had another crippled—all because of Ye Wushuang.
"Ye Wushuang, I swear I will subject you to death by a thousand cuts!"
Seething with a hatred that made his skin crawl, Di Qiong shot one last, icy glare back at the training grounds. Then, he grabbed Fourth Young Master Di and raced toward the Di Family estate.
Back on the training grounds, Menn Qi approached Ye Wushuang.
"Lord Marshal!" Ye Wushuang clasped his fist in salute. He was still in awe as he looked at the powerful, imposing middle-aged man before him.
’Tearing open space to traverse the void—that is a special power of a Yang Destruction Level expert of the Yin Yang Realm!’
Ye Wushuang now understood what the Yang Destruction Level was. It described a powerhouse who, after reincarnation, had their Divine Sense undergo a nirvanic rebirth, allowing them to comprehend the Mysteries of Space and wield terrifying abilities.
At his current level of strength, Ye Wushuang stood no chance against such an expert. Not unless he used his trump card.
Menn Qi stepped forward, sizing up Ye Wushuang. "Ye Wushuang," he said coolly. "A genius from the Ancient Spirit Sect in the Endless Wilderness. You rose to prominence in just three years, sweeping aside all your peers to become the number one expert of your generation in the entire Endless Wilderness. Have I said anything incorrect?"
"What?!"
At Menn Qi’s words, every member of the Nanyang Guard turned to stare at Ye Wushuang in utter shock.
"The number one expert of the younger generation!"
All eyes were fixed on Ye Wushuang. News of the Barbarian God Battle Platform had already reached Nanyang County, and many had heard tales of the person who took first place.
The rumors claimed he possessed talent so heaven-defying that it provoked the jealousy of the heavens themselves.
"Could Deputy Captain Ye be that Demon Fiend everyone talks about? The one so talented the heavens grew jealous?"
The guards stared even more intently at Ye Wushuang, a certainty solidifying in their hearts. They had personally witnessed what a Demon Fiend he was—he had killed a Yin Yang Powerhouse, after all!
It was a topic they had all unspokenly agreed not to mention, because who would believe it? Someone at the Spiritual Spring Sixth Layer, killing a Yin Yang Powerhouse!
"You flatter me, Marshal Menn."
Ye Wushuang saw no reason to deny it. Since Menn Qi had already investigated everything so thoroughly, he knew his identity regardless of any denial.
"I don’t just know you’re from the Ancient Spirit Sect. I also know you were born in Blood Jade City and hail from the Ye Family!"
Menn Qi added, causing Ye Wushuang’s brow to furrow. He never expected the Marshal to have investigated him in such detail.
’No, that’s not right,’ he thought.
Suddenly, a question struck Ye Wushuang. How could Menn Qi have uncovered such detailed information about him in only a few days?
Blood Jade City was a great distance from Nanyang City. Even if Menn Qi opened a void passage and traveled to Blood Jade City to investigate in person, he couldn’t possibly have learned of his connection to the Ye Family in just a few days!
Menn Qi smiled faintly. "Are you wondering how I know all this so clearly?"
"I would ask Marshal Menn to enlighten me."
Ye Wushuang was, indeed, puzzled.
"I can tell you, but I’ll wait until the day you leave the Nanyang Guard. It might be something you’re very eager to find out."
Menn Qi didn’t answer him directly.
’Something I’m eager to find out?’
Ye Wushuang’s eyes narrowed, and he stared intently at Menn Qi, as if trying to parse the many layers of meaning in the Marshal’s words.
"Also, after today’s events, the Di Family won’t let this go."
"A Profound Level ancestor in their family has awakened. He is not to be underestimated."
"Though I am the Nanyang Guard Marshal, my hands are tied. Once the Di Family makes a move, I will be unable to intervene."
Menn Qi added as a warning.
"Thank you for the warning, Marshal Menn. I will be careful."
Ye Wushuang clasped his fist in thanks, but his gaze turned sharp. ’A Profound Level ancestor? If he dares to make a move, I’ll kill him all the same!’
