Chapter 423 - 424: Governor’s Mansion
Outside the Drunken Guest Tower.
A crowd had gathered on the street, and everyone was sighing.
In the center of the crowd, Lan Xinyu was being blocked by a brocade-robed youth.
"Little beauty, you hit my servant. Are you ready to admit your guilt?" the brocade-robed youth said as his lecherous gaze roamed over Lan Xinyu, glinting with fervent desire.
"He was disrespectful first. I was simply retaliating," Lan Xinyu replied. She knew full well that the man before her was no ordinary person and that she couldn’t afford a direct confrontation.
At her words, the brocade-robed youth turned his head. His sharp gaze landed on a young man in martial attire standing beside him, on whose face the faint mark of a slap was still visible.
"Young Master, I didn’t even touch her! I just wanted to invite her back to the mansion to meet with you," the young man in martial attire hurriedly explained.
"Is that so?" Hearing this, the brocade-robed youth’s expression finally softened.
He turned back to Lan Xinyu. "Little beauty, since he didn’t even lay a hand on you, yet you still hit him... it seems your offense is quite serious. So tell me, how should I deal with you?"
"Young Master, the truth of who was right and who was wrong is clear. If you don’t believe me, you can ask the people around us," Lan Xinyu said.
Lan Xinyu had just finished inquiring about the Nanyang Guard and was heading back to the Drunken Guest Tower. But before she could get there, the young man in martial attire blocked her path and started spewing vulgarities at her.
Lan Xinyu didn’t want to stoop to his level, so she tried to walk around him.
But he repeatedly blocked her path, and even tried to lay a hand on her. Left with no other choice, Lan Xinyu finally slapped him.
"So, tell me everyone,"
The brocade-robed youth turned to the onlookers, a faint, mocking smile playing on his lips. "Who was right and who was wrong in this affair?"
The onlookers flinched. They glanced at Lan Xinyu before saying, "Young Master Cai, it was indeed this young lady’s fault!"
"Young lady, hurry up and apologize to Young Master Cai."
The crowd urged her again as they looked at her, sighing inwardly.
Cai Lang was the young master of the Governor’s Mansion and a local tyrant in Nanyang City. Who would dare to oppose him? ’Even if we know who’s right and who’s wrong, so what? If we offend Cai Lang, will we even be allowed to live?’
Hearing the name Cai Lang, and seeing the crowd’s reaction, how could Lan Xinyu not guess the brocade-robed youth’s identity? How could she not understand why they were twisting the truth?
But how could one person argue against the claims of a crowd?
’The Nanyang Guard assessment is only one day away. If I don’t inform the Young Master, he might miss this opportunity. I can’t cause him any more trouble.’
Lan Xinyu thought to herself. ’Even though Cai Lang’s cultivation is at the Spiritual Spring Fourth Layer and I’m only at the Spiritual Spring Third Layer, he still can’t do anything to me.’
However, to avoid causing trouble for her Young Master, she chose to endure it. ’What does it matter if I’m wronged a little?’
After weighing her options, she gritted her teeth and said, "I’m sorry. I hope Young Master Cai can be the bigger person and not concern himself with a humble girl like me."
Alas.
Hearing Lan Xinyu’s apology, the crowd sighed. ’With a powerful backer and strong influence, one can turn black into white and make wrong into right.’
As soon as she finished speaking, Lan Xinyu turned to walk toward the Drunken Guest Tower.
"You think you can just leave?"
Cai Lang sneered. He wasn’t about to let her go so easily. In a flash, he blocked Lan Xinyu’s path.
"Little beauty, you think a simple ’I’m sorry’ is enough? Instead of atoning for your crime, why not spend the night with me? What do you say? Come back with this young master to the Governor’s Mansion."
Cai Lang smirked, and his provocative gaze made Lan Xinyu’s expression darken.
"I have already apologized, Young Master Cai. Please show some self-respect!"
Pushed again and again, Lan Xinyu was growing angry. She never thought her compromise would only encourage Cai Lang to push his luck even further!
"Oh-ho? After hitting my servant, do you plan on hitting me too? If you dare to lay a single finger on me, the Governor’s Mansion will give you and your family some... ’special attention’."
Cai Lang gave a faint smile and added, "Of course, if you come with this young master, your family will be my family. The Governor’s Mansion won’t treat them poorly."
As he spoke, Cai Lang reached a hand toward Lan Xinyu’s cheek.
However, before his hand was halfway there, another hand suddenly shot out and seized his wrist.
"Which bastard dares to stop me!"
His fun interrupted, Cai Lang flew into a rage and turned to glare at the newcomer.
Lan Xinyu also turned to look, her pretty face lighting up with joy.
"You dare lay a hand on my handmaiden?"
Ye Wushuang’s eyes were cold as ice. With a flick of his wrist, Cai Lang’s arm twisted along with it. CRACK! CRACK! The sound of bones breaking suddenly echoed through the street, chilling everyone to the marrow.
"AARGH!"
A piercing shriek tore through the air, making the crowd’s eardrums throb in pain.
All eyes were fixed on Cai Lang as he slowly sank to his knees, clutching the arm Ye Wushuang had twisted, his face contorted in agony.
A violent shudder ran through everyone present.
"You... you dare strike Young Master Cai!" the young man in martial attire stammered from the side, his eyes shrinking in terror as he stared at Ye Wushuang.
SLAP!
Ye Wushuang’s response was a sharp slap!
THUD!
The young man in martial attire was sent sprawling, his body hitting the ground hard with a muffled groan.
The crowd stared, frozen. ’Is this white-robed young man trying to make an enemy of the Governor’s Mansion?’
"You bastard! I’m the Young Master of the Governor’s Mansion!"
Cai Lang roared in agony. Ye Wushuang had crushed the bones in his hand, and the pain was so intense he wished he were dead.
"The Young Master of the Governor’s Mansion?"
Ye Wushuang stared coldly at Cai Lang and sneered. "So what if you’re the Young Master of the Governor’s Mansion? Does that give you the right to bully my people? Does that mean I can’t do anything to you?"
As he spoke, Ye Wushuang turned to Lan Xinyu and called out, "Come here."
Hearing this, Lan Xinyu walked over.
"Make him understand that being the Young Master of the Governor’s Mansion means nothing at all!"
Ye Wushuang uttered, his gaze fixed on Lan Xinyu.
Lan Xinyu gave Ye Wushuang a deep look, then turned to Cai Lang. She raised her hand and brought it down hard. With a sharp SLAP, it connected with Cai Lang’s face.
"Not enough! Is that all the strength you have?!"
Ye Wushuang turned and snapped, making Lan Xinyu’s body tremble.
The onlookers’ eyes widened. ’To make the Young Master of the Governor’s Mansion understand that he’s nothing, one slap isn’t enough!’
SLAP!
Lan Xinyu gritted her teeth and slapped him again. This time, Cai Lang’s face was instantly mangled, and his teeth shattered.
ARGH...
Cai Lang’s mouth was full of blood, his miserable state terrifying the onlookers.
"Get lost!"
With that, Ye Wushuang lifted Cai Lang with one hand and tossed him away.
’The Governor’s Mansion... and they dare to bully my people?’
"You just wait!"
Cai Lang scrambled to his feet, clutching his crushed arm as he fled in terror.
Ye Wushuang paid him no mind, turning to stare at Lan Xinyu. After a moment, he said, "Do you still not understand the world of Cultivators? If you take one step back, others will force you to take a hundred. The more weakness you show, the more they’ll think you’re an easy target!"
With those words, Ye Wushuang turned and walked toward the Drunken Guest Tower.
Behind him, Lan Xinyu gritted her teeth and followed. ’Ye Wushuang is right. Showing weakness only makes your enemies push their luck even further!’
’I had the strength to deal with Cai Lang, but my repeated concessions only made him push his luck. I didn’t want to cause trouble, but since trouble had already found me, how could I avoid it without simply surrendering?’
’And that would have led to my utter ruin, an even more tragic ending!’
