Chapter 975 - 198: Jormungandr
"Honored guest, what brings you here?"
The Obsidian Dragon’s expression was gentle, but Losa’s keen Spiritual Power could still detect the tension in the other’s emotions.
If the Northern Giant Dragons were to unite, it was evident that Losa would not be able to contend with them.
However, if Losa wanted to establish roots here and settle down, over time, her status would inevitably decline from its former prominence.
After all, the nature of the Giant Dragons is to worship Power. If Losa truly desired to become the Dragon King, to replace the Obsidian Dragon and marginalize its position was not an impossible task.
Losa said bluntly, "I wish to hire a group of Giant Dragons to fight for me."
"Does someone as powerful as you also need assistance?" The Obsidian Dragon looked at Losa with some doubt. "Unless it is the Legendary Mages of humanity joining forces, I don’t think there’s anything in this world that could pose a threat to you."
Losa repeated the explanation she had given to the female dragon.
The Obsidian Dragon still shook its head. "The once mighty Ancient Gods have all perished. The world no longer belongs to the Dragon Race. Please forgive me for being unable to agree to your request."
Losa unhappily raised her head, her enormous body towering over the Obsidian Dragon.
Some Fire Dragons were itching to help, but more chose to watch the show. Among the Giant Dragons, Power is revered, and even among those of royal bloodline, status still must be determined by strength.
The Obsidian Dragon clearly noticed this point and softened its tone, "Stranger Dragon King, may I have a word with you?"
In that Abyss, there was a giant python, with its head and tail joined, stretching endlessly out of sight.
It exuded a terrifying aura Losa had never seen before.
"What is that monstrosity?"
"The Python of the Mortal World, a symbol of calamity, the only monster to have survived from the age of the gods to the present."
"During the Twilight of the Gods, Thunder God Thor gave his life to destroy its Spirit, and then took its Divine Crown to seal its corpse. Generations of Priests, drawing upon Power from the ancestors’ remains, convened a grand ceremony of dragons every thirty years to reinforce the seal, keeping that corpse in a state of slumber."
The Obsidian Dragon sighed gently, "Therefore, for every tribesperson we lose, the world moves one step closer to destruction."
"Can a Spirit that has died still revive?"
"Young Dragon King, you are powerful enough to discern that I’m not engaging in scaremongering. The body of the world python, Jormungandr, is too powerful. Even with its Spirit dead, a new Spirit will still arise from this corpse."
"So, a being that represents despair and calamity, and even acts as the Devouring force for the World Tree initiating the Twilight of the Gods, has become the world’s Guardian upon its death?"
The Obsidian Dragon shook its head, "The ancestors’ obsession was to destroy the World Tree, not the world. After the Twilight of the Gods, all gods perished, and the World Tree vanished. They did not wish for Jormungandr to devour the remnants of the gods and evolve into an uncontrollable Demon."
"Do you understand now? The Northern Dragon Race, though seemingly powerful, has a mission of its own. We cannot become tools for your world conquest. The era of the gods has passed, and the glory of the past is no more. Young Dragon King, please let go of your ambition."
"Perhaps you won’t believe me, but I have no ambition to conquer the world."
Losa said calmly, "Madam Priestess, I believe we can reach an agreement."
"What agreement?"
"I become the Dragon King of the Northern Dragon Race. You don’t need to hurry; I will soon leave and not take a single tribesperson, but I want you to agree that when I summon you for battle, you must not refuse."
The Obsidian Dragon’s eyes turned dangerous, "I’ve said it before; this is impossible. Young Dragon King, do you think you could defeat me even here?"
The corpse of Nidhogg lies here. As the Obsidian Dragon birthed from Nidhogg’s corpse, I can naturally draw upon the Power within that corpse."
Losa took a few steps back, indicating she meant no harm.
"Madam, please calm down. I wasn’t talking about taking any tribesperson, nor about summoning you to battle in reality—you can understand it as within a dream."
"Within a dream?"
The Obsidian Dragon was somewhat puzzled, "If the tribespeople die within the dream, what harm would come to them?"
A smile appeared on Losa’s enormous dragon face, "There will be none, and we can sign a contract."
...
The Giant Dragons of the Crown of Frost thought the two Dragon King’s offspring would end up fighting.
They hadn’t anticipated that when they reappeared, they’d seem to be getting along rather well.
"Madam, although I have gained the nominal title of Dragon King, should you need anything in the future, feel free to contact me at any time."
The Obsidian Dragon looked at Losa with some concern, "Although I don’t understand what exactly you’re planning, since you made a commitment in the contract, so be it. For now, please accept the worship of the dragons."
She didn’t want to truly fight with Losa.
Firstly, even if relying solely on herself, without drawing on the Power from the ancestors’ remains, she wasn’t fully confident of winning, which might instead damage the seal on Jormungandr.
Secondly, awakening the sleeping Great Three could ensure victory over Losa, but considering their extreme old age, they might suffer severe injuries and pass away prematurely.
She raised her head and let out a resonant, low roar.
The female dragon that led Losa felt a surge of excitement, "It’s really become the Dragon King!"
"Quickly, go and worship the Dragon King!"
The young Giant Dragons were very excited; the decline and concerns of the Dragon Race were evident. These years, their living environment had been increasingly encroached upon by humans, and the Ancient Dragons continued to die of old age, while the Ice Element tribe members split and moved to the remote Northern regions.
Among humans, Legendary figures capable of rivaling the Ancient Dragons still emerged in abundance.
