Dream Life

Episode Seven: The City of Low Cliff

Tria calendar before 7 p.m. on July 7, 2017.

I wasted my time in bandit raids, subsequent interactions with Low Cliff's deputies, etc., and it was this time that I was finally able to enter the inn.

The city of Low Cliff is the standard fortified city of the Caerm Empire, surrounded by a kilometre of walls on one side. At the four corners of the castle walls, a tall tower is built, and near the south gate there is the castle's deputy's mansion and the guard's stuffing.

There are no gates on the north walls, only three gates in the south-east to be used for the Aurelia streets penetrating east and west and the northern streets passing south - streets from Netherton to Low Cliff, the main city in the central part of the Caerm Empire.

The city centre intersects Aurelia Avenue through the west gate to the east gate and the northern street towards the south gate, making it a commercial district lined with shops, lodging and more.

Our inn was in that commercial district.

My brother Rodrick's wedding is on the 20th of July, and there is no need to hurry, as it is fifty kilometers from here in Low Cliff to Wellburn, the heart of the Raswell Borderline Berg Territory, and two days will suffice to arrive.

In advance contact, my brother is supposed to pick me up here in Low Cliff tomorrow, July 8th, and I'm supposed to rest here one day tomorrow.

So far, the four unfamiliar mothers Ta-Na and her younger brother Theophilus, sister Seraphine and Sophia do not seem tired, nor do they need to rest in Low Cliff.

But this is a situation where I don't understand the thoughts of the masterminds using the bandits, and my father seemed to prioritize joining his brother Rodrick, who plans to lead his own platoon to serve as an escort.

Low Cliff is a transportation hub and a very rich city with supplies from the commercial city of Aurelia to the west and from the Caerm Empire to the south. I strike a change from the dangerous Aurelia streets and get the impression that the security in the city is good and well governed.

Ask the master of the inn,

"Master Boyette was assigned about seven or eight years ago. Unlike what it looks like, I know a lot about merchants like you..."

Since Boyette took office, she has taken one measure after another that will lead to the revitalization of commerce, including the simplification of taxes and the elimination of Gorotsuki and others.

"That one looks awesome. You're losing a fortune. Well, for Nong et al, it's better than a knight as expected... no, I'm not talking about Sir Lockhart."

The innkeeper hurriedly clouds his words, but the previous deputy told me that he was a typical samurai and that the city's economy had gone temporarily crazy.

(I thought you were a bewilderer, but as a politician, are you competent? It's bright on the economy, and I understand the importance of security. There is no problem with hygiene, so it seems to be surprisingly detailed. Above all, the expression of the people of the city is bright. The innkeeper seems to favor Voyette too... when this happens, I don't know what Voyette thinks anymore...)

The action taken earlier by Low Cliff's city deputy, knight Arman Boyette, was hooked.

If Voyette is connected to the people who tried to assassinate and kidnap us Lockhart family members, we need to get rid of Maddock, the head of the bandit, as soon as possible.

In fact, Maddock testifies that Lowcliffe's deputy was supposed to facilitate it, so if he is taken to Wellburn as he is, Uncle Raswell Borderline will recall and question Boyette.

If harm is inflicted on the Lockhart family and it is spread to the public that it was executed and guided by the people of the Borderline Uncle, the northern governor of the Caerm Empire, the relationship between Borderline Uncle and the Blacksmith Guild could deteriorate. If you do poorly, it could affect the whole empire.

When this happens, there can also be no denying the possibility of developing into a responsibility issue for the Governor of the North. In other words, as a borderline uncle, we need to settle the Lockhart family raid as soon as possible, with minimal impact.

If the highest authority in the north of the Caerm were to do everything in its power to settle the matter, a small man like Boyette could not stand it.

Except if you're so stupid that you don't know that at this stage, but if you're good as a politician, you can't possibly not know how dangerous this situation is.

That being said, I can easily imagine Boyette scratching her feet trying to do something about this situation.

The fact that that boyette handed over Maddock very manly was really hooked.

Looking further at the disturbance of the voices earlier, there is a verse that did not doubt the success of the Maddocks. Sure, it was a highly successful raid, but still there should never be an operation like this. Speaking of military amateurs, I guess there were grounds to make him think that the raid was sure to succeed.

The only thing that could be thought of was knowing very well the person who arranged the raid and either thought it was unlikely that the person would fail or that he could strike some kind of hand even if he failed.

Think about it that way, I have something in mind.

At the time of the raid, Maddock was always in the rear. In other words, it is likely that only Maddock could have escaped safely, even if the raid ended in failure.

Haven't heard in detail from the other bandits, but probably bargained with someone Harold should be about the bandit who commanded a separate squad that attacked Maddock and the front of the merchant squad.

It is unlikely that Boyette will be considered an accomplice, as the story of Boyette, Low Cliff's deputy, will naturally be kept secret.

(Rather than a measure with a loophole, it's a measure put in place by someone who thinks it will go according to the scenario. Failure is not envisaged... because someone who is good but less experienced, or even less confident, has made it... or you had to plan to think that it would go according to the scenario... don't have too few ingredients now... in any case, it's likely to hang on to erase the Maddock...)

There is a chance that the enemy will sue the illegal means more than they can legally begin to destroy Maddock. And I told my fathers about it.

"... which means you're likely to come and seal Maddock's mouth. This is true here in Low Cliff, but I think it's possible to come and seal your mouth in Wellburn, depending on how powerful they are"

My father nodded small, "Right. Of course I'll be on guard, but what exactly am I supposed to do?" He asked me not feeling confident.

Unlike the camp in the woods, my father can't seem to give any specific instructions either because it would be a protection in an unfamiliar city.

"First of all, that's a sleepless turn. Then let's just give the food what I arranged. That way, you won't be poisoned."

Six of us and five of us, Guy, Byron, Enos and the vigilante, decided to work together on a shift of fourteen. As for meals, my storage magic inventory always contains emergency meals, so I can ensure a safe meal.

Water is fine if you magically serve it, and now you should be able to avoid the risk of poisoning.

My father said to the word poisoning, "If you say poisoning, don't you need to be prepared for us?" I've checked somewhat anxiously.

"It's okay. Because it doesn't make sense to destroy us all here. And if you don't die instantly, I'll try to cure you."

My father seemed a little relieved when I joked and said that.

I didn't actually know what they were thinking. This means that there is no longer any danger of assassination. Anyway, my father didn't have to make my mother or my brothers anxious, so he made me affirm that there was no danger of assassination.

(If you're going to assassinate me, there's got to be more to do. There's just never more to it than not knowing what they're thinking. Don't worry about what they think so far. If the opponent is illogical, if he has just been impulsively raiding, he will continue to be targeted for his life in the future. And the possibility that my mother and my brothers will be targeted... I wish only me and Liddy, Beatrice, Guy and Byron knew this...)

That night, we had a sleepless turn, but in the end, nothing happened and we had a morning.

I rubbed my sleepy eyes,

(You just didn't seem ready to raid in the city. If you have enough people to sneak into the inn, you must be letting them participate in daytime raids. Did you overthink it a little...)

Though I think so, I won't be distracted until after the interrogation in Wellburn.

That day it meant free movement, and my father, along with my mother, was to pay a respectful visit to Boyette, his deputy. Yesterday, even though we are face-to-face, he said greeting the rulers of the land - lords, deputies, heads of fortifications, etc. - is a liturgical necessity as knights.

And his brother, Theophilus, and his sister, Seraphine, Sophia, were to stroll through the city.

Oppose Guy as dangerous against letting his brothers out into the city.

"If you're right about Master Zach, aren't you going to come after the Theos? It's not easy to protect a city full of people."

But my thoughts are a little different.

"I know what Guy says, but no one benefits from not kidnapping and killing the Theos in this situation. I don't know what this mastermind is after, but at least it shouldn't be remorse of the Lockhart family. Of course, I can't even think of kidnapping and threatening my father, but if I knew my uncle, I wouldn't think the Lockhart family would succumb to the threat. I mean, if we don't even show a big gap here, we shouldn't be forced to grab Theo's guys."

My father, Guy, and Byron mute for a while, but my father snorts on his behalf.

"What you say is the best thing, but don't you dare risk it?

I had another thought.

"I've had another thought. In other words, if we act as we normally do, the enemy shouldn't know what this one is thinking. If the people who manipulated Maddock were watching over our actions, they would know that we had secured his figure forcefully, and that we were even more vigilant at night. Here, our enemies should be confused if we act as we have always done, that is, as we normally do."

"That may be true..."

"If Father were to pay a flat tribute to the boyette connected to the mastermind and even his younger sister Sophia would be allowed to go out, the enemy would be worried about how far we hold the information."

"I guess so," my father nods.

"And the enemy may suspect that this one is trying to catch the raiders using their brothers as bait. If you knew Lockhart's name, it wouldn't be surprising to think we were trying to figure it out ourselves. Then I think the enemy would hesitate to attack his brothers in the city of Lowcliff."

That much to explain, the fathers nod loudly as they were convinced. But Guy expressed his doubts.

"But then we must protect the Hall, the Theophilus, and the Maddocks separately. It will be a dispersion of power."

I was thinking the same thing, so I'm going to explain the allocation of escorts.

"I'll put Byron and Enos on my father, and Brett and the others on it. Theo and I, Beatrice and Mel, are enough. Maddock would have no problem if he had it protected in Guy, Liddy, Dan and Sharon. The most alarming thing to do is to get Maddock assassinated. I mean, Guy's place should be the most dangerous..."

I explained my thoughts further.

If we find out we're out there, the enemy will think about targeting the Theos, or us with weaknesses.

But it should be difficult to bring rogues into this safe and vibrant city.

And then there's the mastermind or the boyette, who might use the soldiers from the city's defense forces, but if it's what the soldiers looked like yesterday, it won't be called a single rock. Besides, if you have a small number of soldiers, you can do anything.

Besides, I choose Beatrice and Mel, who are good at melee combat, as escorts, thinking about how to deal with the crowded city.

Inn places Guy and Dan, who are good at detecting signs, leaving Liddy, who can use healing magic just in case, and Sharon, who can control fine magic even in narrow places. He thought it was most unlikely that the bandits would be used to raid the inn.

The inn faces the boulevard of the commercial district and is difficult to do in secret even when trying to raid. What's more, the bandits who were with Maddock were too suspicious and would soon be reported to the defense.

It's not like it's an assassination by a handful of manoeuvres, but if there's any manoeuvres, they must have been swamped by Maddock's men during yesterday's raid.

It's about Harold who should be on guard. Even that Harold shouldn't be easy to get our hands on if we don't fail to be vigilant.

To two brilliant scouts named Guy and Dan, the combination of Liddy and Sharon's magicians is powerful. If you're talented enough to scratch that and carry out Maddock's assassination, you're moving yourself at an earlier stage.

And the important thing is that I'll be joining my brothers this evening. This makes the enemy even more anxious. If that happens, it's ours. If you take action with a feeling of impatience, your enemies will always make mistakes.

"Besides, if you get attacked, I'll try to protect you even if I change my life. Dark Attribute Magic can disable enemies without causing harm to the people of the city. Trust me."

That being said, Guy was also convinced, "I'll take care of Maddock," he bowed his head small.

When we told the three of us, Theophilus, Seraphine and Sophia, that we could get out of the city after the discussion, they were happy to jump up when they heard they could go out with us. Periclittle, after seeing Doctus and the big city, but sometimes it's my first trip, and they're happy to see around the various cities.

When my fathers changed into their outfits and left, we got geared up and rolled out to the city around 10: 00 a.m.

The city of Low Cliff is a vibrant city, and open-air shoppers have already opened their shops in the commercial district around the inn, calling in aloud. Sometimes it's a boarding town, and I'm pretty aggressive with travelers like us.

"It's a rare fruit from central Caerm! On Aurelia Street, it's the only place!

"It's a Gilsol glass product! If you're going back to Welburn, you'll lose money if you don't buy it here!

It seems to be a logistics hub, with a variety of goods traded.

In addition, in a district where stalls selling food connect houses, my brother Theo and sister Serra discuss which one they want, watching unusual treats and skewers that make them smell good.

Sophia, her youngest sister, sat down on Beatrice's shoulder and said, "You can see so far away!" and it is. It's Sophia, but I like Beatrice for some reason, and when I have time, it's twisted. Beatrice also said, "Some little kids aren't scared of me," but it doesn't seem to be enough.

Mel and I don't fail to be vigilant behind Theo and Sella.

I told Guy my brothers are unlikely to be attacked, but there's absolutely no more to it than not knowing what they think.

After a stroll around the city for about two hours, we took lunch in a stall facing the boulevard. Unlike the village of Rasmore and Doctus, herbs and spices are used in abundance, such as the skewering of the great horn beef (Great Horn), a specialty of the northern Caerm Empire, and the roasting of large river shrimp on the Fatas River.

Though I felt my gaze several times along the way, I did not have contact with it, and I returned safely to the inn.

Mel breathed out, fuh-fuh-fuh-fuh-fuh-fuh-fuh-fuh-fuh-fuh-fuh-fuh-fuh-fuh-fuh-fuh-fuh-fuh. Even Beatrice has a relief look on her face.

Ask Guy about the inn, but he said he wasn't looking out for the inn, and nothing happened. Maddock didn't seem to be a target because none of the three guys, Guy, Dan and Liddy, felt any signs of people.

When we got back, my father was already back, and I asked him about the meeting with Boyette, but Boyette said the surrogate official had responded because he was ill. That's why he cut his plans and came home early.

Neither my father nor Byron has changed, except that Voyette never came out, and he says there was no strange bareback in the officials he responded to.

(It's just an imagination, but that means the enemy doesn't have much power to move in the city. We're spread out in three places, and we're not even watching out for anything other than us. I put that little power on us, but I didn't get my hands on it. No, you wouldn't have been able to get your hands on it. I didn't have more than one gaze I felt, and Beatrice says the same thing... I hope this gives up a little bit, but as long as I hold on to Maddock, there's no longer any chance he'll get his hands on me...)

I'm going to talk about my reasoning, the fact that the enemy doesn't have a good assassin, and the fact that it could still be in strong hands.

My father nods at it, but gives a slightly more flashy look when he says, "In the end, you mean you have to stay vigilant". Looks like he wanted to get rid of it by his eldest sunny wedding.

Around 4 p.m., the innkeeper told my father that a guest had arrived.

When we went to the inn entrance, my brother Rodrick stood there.
