Dream Life

Episode 73: Traces

Tria Calendar October 9, 2017.

The day after I returned to the village of Rasmore, that day was sunny in the morning. As decided at yesterday's operational meeting, scouts will be released to the Quartet in the early morning.

The Rockhart family's best scout, "Scout," Guy Jakes, heads to the most dangerous east forest, and Hector Marron, archer and summerman of the hunters, heads to the south forest close to Bogwood, Dan to the west, and Beatrice to the north. Each has one hunter attached to it, making it a preaching order.

The condition of the village, although the wheat harvest is over, the harvest is mainly carried out by the women under the patronage of vigilantes, as it is time for the harvest of potatoes and other root vegetables. In the event of a demonic raid in this situation, a bell with the hall on the hill is to be rang and evacuated immediately.

Furthermore, for the livestock, although the hall is housed in the hills at night, it is too narrow to graze all the cattle and sheep in the village, so during the day the hall is released into the meadows around the hills. As for this one, even if there was a demonic raid, there would be no retrieval. It means life comes first.

Me and Liddy, Sharon's three men, the hall stands by on the hill, and Mel, a swordsman, is assigned to my grandfather's unit, or the most elite unit. That seemed delightful in itself, but he seemed only a little dissatisfied with leaving us.

After the Guys went out for reconnaissance, the school, where the hall was near the foot of the hill, had all the villagers gathered, except the vigilantes who were on alert.

My father is supposed to tell me what he plans to do today.

"As we all know, Zach and the others are back! Now you have nothing to fear whether your enemies are demons or not!

My father nodded small at me and sent me a signal.

"With me, Lydiane, and Sharon, there's no need to fear even the Winged Demon (Lesser Demon) that the Demons will serve..."

After I say that, to demonstrate, I cast a spell, but chant it in a low voice so that it sounds as severe as possible, aiming at the performance effect.

"God of Fire (Ignis), who commands fire. I do not seek the fierce flame of your family, the Spirit, and I do not give you the power of my life. Burn down my enemies! Fire Cannon!"

With the chant, an orange fireball forms on his right hand, and with the completion of the chant, a ball of flame, about fifty cm in diameter, pops up over the sky.

It flies at high speeds with the burning noise of boom, and just up above a hundred meters or so, the flaming shells can play along with the fierce explosion noise.

Countless little fireballs pop out of bounced flaming shells in a conical fashion.

"Now we can have a whole network of enemies flying in the air!

to the sound and sight of it. The villagers said, "Ooh! The cheer goes up," You don't have to worry about this, "or" The Wingman's not afraid enough, "etc.

The magic used this time is about the same name as the flame cannon (Fire Cannon) used in the woods near the academic city of Doctus, but the contents are quite different. Previously, when I made a reference to the prison flame spear (Hellfire lance) shown to me by my mentor, Professor Lionel Raspade, I imagined a full-armed bullet, but this time it was also a demonstration, because I imagined a grenade.

To tell the truth, this magic, it looks very flashy, but it has little killing power. A grenade means it explodes just before it lands, but unlike the actual one, the bullet doesn't pop up. Just loud explosions and splashing flames, almost empty cannons or fireworks, you can say.

I made several improvements, but the fire attribute didn't make it solid well, and I couldn't get a shotgun to shoot out. Because wind attributes can be solidified, I think it is caused by the failure to convey the image well to the Spirit of Fire. In a situation where there is a trial and error in whether something like a grenade cannot be done with other attributes, there is only one that seems to work, but this time the emphasis was on flashness to make it a fire attribute. Incidentally, this grenade version of Fire Cannon thinks it can be used instead of a signal bullet due to bright red flames and loud noises.

My father raises his hands and asks for silence as the villagers cheer, satisfied with my demonstration. Where the blurring has subsided, the awareness of the defense system will be carried out.

"With the addition of Zach and the others, we will change the system..."

The first squad is a swordsman unit headed by grandfather Govan.

This squad consists of those who are also good in the vigilante regiment, each one of whom can cross enough with the oak, and about thirty of them are gathered. All are above level 36, and in the ranks of the Mercenary Alliance, the five equivalent of the Strong Ones. This squad takes the lead and chops down the enemy.

The second squad is a cavalry unit of about fifteen, led by brother Rodrick.

When I say cavalry unit, I'm not expecting to be expertly trained except for my brother and Sim Marron - Mel's brother, who was an obedient knight at Wellburn - but to use his mobility to confuse his enemies.

The third squad is my archer unit.

It consists of about twenty long archers and about ten crossbowmen, and Liddy and Sharon are also in this unit. Formerly a squad commanded by Hector, but he's in scourge, so it's in the form I took. As for combat, basically, the three of us are going to take charge of the enemy on the ground.

Crossbow, by the way, but that's what I started introducing in my opinion. Although it has inferior rapidity, he thinks it's quite effective in defense fights because it's easy to handle and has a good hit rate if it's limited to shooting, compared to Longbow. However, the high price of the crossbow itself and the absence in the village of specialist craftsmen required for maintenance have so far not led to mass introduction.

There are four other squads of about forty, each led by Walt Vassel, the squire head, Nicholas Garland, Byron Seedorf and Enos Vassel. These four squads dominate, but they are supposed to hit enemies in pairs of five because they have an average level of late twenty and remain somewhat anxious to hit the oak alone.

Guys in scouts, but as soon as we get back to the village, we'll join my third squad.

As soon as the system was announced by the general's father, the vigilantes began to move. A vigilante with a bow will also gather at my place.

Everyone will come together and tell them what was decided at the operation meeting.

"Squad three, stand by near the mansion. In the meantime, you can make enough time to move after you see the enemy. Don't be too distracted because it could be a long stretch..."

After giving simple instructions, me and Liddy and Sharon decided to wait in the mansion yard.

Sitting on the bench in the garden, Liddy spoke with a serious look.

"Are you okay?

A word out of the subject, but somehow I know what you're trying to say. But I couldn't answer honestly, and I dared to pretend I didn't understand, "What are you talking about?" And I tried to blur it.

"You know that. It's about your mission. Are you sure you feel that? It's about time..."

Liddy was staring into my eyes without breaking his serious expression.

"Oh... I told my fathers, but somehow. I just feel vaguely like that... I have no idea if that fits..."

"You're finally coming," Liddy muttered, holding onto me.

"I'll be with you no matter what. Everywhere... forever... so do you..."

Sharon sitting on the other side also says with a serious look, "I'm the same," and grabs my arm softly.

"I don't think you need to feel that much... because they say you can throw in extreme stories"

In contrast, Sharon shakes his head "wearing it" small.

"Master Zach will never be thrown out. Whenever it is...... so I am worried...... we are here. Don't force it. Really..."

Sharon has complained that way with an almost crying look. Liddy also shuts up because she opens her mouth to say something but feels like she can't put it to words well.

(Maybe they're feeling something too. Mel felt like she didn't want to leave me either, and even Beatrice had an anxious look on her face... Either way, she's coming one day. Don't worry about everyone extra if I don't confront myself properly...)

Around noon, one of the hunters, Joan, a skinny strong bowman, rushed the hall into the hills.

"Ha-ha-ha... oh, oak's, I found a footprint!

When Joan finds his father, he reports that out loud.

The surroundings will be noisy for a moment in that voice, but my grandfather's "Quiet! The blurring momentarily quieted with a loud voice.

Joan takes a bite of the received water and prepares a rough breath.

When my father asked, "Where is the place?"

"Footprints were found about five kilometers east, by Lake Sealyn. We were heading north. According to Master Jakes, the numbers range from two to three hundred. Mostly in the footsteps of an oak, and it seems to have passed yesterday or even yesterday."

My father nods small.

"What happened to Guy?"

"You said that Jakes' husband would follow him to the point where he could..."

Guy put Joan in the preaching for now, and he himself is single and keeps tracking. They'll be back by sundown, and they're going to track it down for about three more hours and make sure it's out north.

The terrain around the village of Rasmore, but to the south there is a small mountain called Mount Meegade, to the east of which stretches the foothills of the Aquila Mountains, called the Mountains of Demons. From the border town of Bogwood to Mount Meegade to the south, the forest continues deep, but not so deep from the area beyond the mountains to the village of Rasmore. This was due to a massive forest fire about a hundred years ago, and the absence of large trees over a hundred years old.

To the northeast of the village of Rasmore is a lake about 3 km in diameter called Lake Sealyn. From this lake flows a river called the Seelin, pouring into the Fatas - the great river that flows through the northern realm of the Caerm Empire from the Kingdom of Kaum. Even though it hits a tributary, the Seelin river is about thirty metres wide and a few metres deep, even shallow, with a limited number of places to cross the river. There are river crossing points that only the hunters know about, but to go north, a route that bypasses east of Lake Seelin becomes a realistic route.

(Straight north from Bogwood, it's the village of Rasmore. So I thought the village of Rasmore (here) would be a battlefield, but the enemy chose a route to bypass the village. It does make sense to bypass the Seelin River to go north efficiently outside the streets... you mean the enemy is familiar with the geography around here...)

My father, who took information from Joan, said, "Thank you for your hard work. Get some rest," he said.

"Issue a decree to Kilnarek. Sim! I'll leave you to it."

Sending to the nearby fortified city of Kilnarek is Mel's brother Sim Marron, who, as a subordinate of his brother Rodrick, was a servant knight in the army of the Governor's Office in the north of Caerm, at which time he used his expertise in equestrianism to serve as a preaching order.

Sim responds on one knee with a "ha".

"Give Kilnarek the information immediately. Head to Bogwood first thing tomorrow morning. But don't push it. The first thing you need to do is make sure you communicate the information."

If you just go from this village to Kilnarek and then to Bogwood to come back and run a total of eighty-five km in two days, there's nothing wrong with being Sim's beloved horse, a famous frogman - one of the four famous horses his brother gave away when he got married - as an excellent military horse. But due to the proximity of the enemy, my father thought he didn't know what was going to happen and seemed to draw attention.

Sim bowed his head again, crossing a refreshing and beloved horse, running down the hill at once.

As I watched, I was thinking about the devil's behavior.

(I didn't go straight north from Bogwood. It's true that Oak and Auga should have headed north on the same route ten years ago. For example, there is something or someone in the north… If the Demon Nation is the enemy of God, it must have something to do with my destiny, but the Demon Nation is also a race that believes in the Dark God (Noctis). If the gods are twelve, then the Dark God (Noctis) is included... don't be too informative. Now we should think about how it works rather than who is the enemy...)

My father ordered the vigilante to stand by because of the information in Oak's footprint.

"In terms of distance, it's unlikely that the enemy will attack us at noon today. Whatever, not just the troops the enemy's headed north, but now rest yourselves in preparation for the night raid!

Leaving a squad standing watch, the vigilante enters the school building and the tent.

We're off guard, too, and we're going back to the mansion.

Unequip, lie down on the sleeping table, but you just can't sleep. Still, the sun was leaning heavily while it was busy.

Already the three Hector, Dan and Beatrice had returned from their opponents and had completed their reports.

Their report said there were no traces of oak footprints or anything to the extent that Hector had a slightly higher number of demons in the south woods he headed for.

Just before sundown, Guy came back.

Major members were immediately gathered at the mansion to hear a report from him.

Guy was sweating like a waterfall and breathing rough, either because he traveled fairly quickly or because it was a cool October evening.

"... it is certain that we bypassed Lake Sealyn and headed north. We were able to confirm further northwest, but we have not been able to confirm further..."

The oaks' footsteps bypassed Lake Sealyn and continued further into the woods, but it also had to do with time, and they haven't been able to follow it any further.

"Think about when the orcs came through"

"I'm pretty sure it was yesterday," he replies instantly to his grandfather's query.

My father nodded "um,"

"Were you lost in the footsteps of the orcs?"

Guy shook his head (wearing it),

"There were no signs of releasing scouts or straying. However, if there were a Winged Demon tribe, there might not be any sign of scourge"

My father conceived in slight silence,

"Then don't be leaving the day after you let a spy go to Bogwood. Were you spying on a secret detective, or were you going to rendezvous somewhere... Either way, they're less likely to be here"

A breath of relief leaks from around.

If we cross Lake Seelin northwards, the Seelin will become an obstacle and we will have to follow the same route even if we return, or we will have to pass near Kilnarek and come around west of Mount Sheharion.

The unmistakable bypass of Lake Seelin meant that the destination was another point and the most mobile route would have been chosen. Even if there were winged demons who could fly, the demons' purpose would not have been here because they would not have raided while confirming the existence of the village of Rasmore.

"Tonight we will be on strict alert! Tomorrow, however, the perimeter will remain vigilant, but we will return to work…"

Unlocking the vigilante's alert is dangerous, as the likelihood of an enemy attack cannot be denied without ensuring that the orcs are destroyed or located. But now that it's autumn harvest season, we can't abandon farming, and as a father, I guess I made a bitter choice. It is unlikely that this village will be ambushed more than it is actually crossing the Seelin River as a problem, and it will be fine if we remain vigilant.

Of course, there is no denying the possibility of having a separate task force than not knowing the enemy's thoughts, but thinking that far prevents us from doing anything.

Having sent information to Kilnarek about the enemies heading north, there is no doubt that an adventurer will be dispatched from the town along Als Street, and the extent to which the enemies can act in secrecy will surely narrow. Also, a reported Adventurer Alliance headquarters should launch a massive crusade operation just like it did ten years ago.

My servants go and tell the villagers about my father's decision.

The Lockhart family was the only ones left.

"I have a favor to ask you"

That's what I cut out for my father.

My father said, "What?," he tilted his neck, but prompted him to speak immediately.

"Can you give me permission to go after the enemy?"

I asked for permission to follow in the footsteps Guy found.

"Even though the enemy has left to the north, it is in the present situation to take you off...... is there any reason?

"There is no particularly clear reason, but I am concerned that the enemy has gone north without hesitation. Can you remember ten years ago?

My father nodded loudly,

"Whatever. It was then that Oak and Auga were passing east of the village together. And Fort Toa has fallen."

When I say, "Don't you think the situation is similar," everyone nods, including my father.

"If you think about it in conjunction with the Bogwood thing, it's no longer possible to be a wild oak. If so, all I can think about is the existence of an orc that can serve, the involvement of the Demons."

"Sure. But I don't think that has anything to do with your pursuit.

I shook my head (wearing it) saying "no,"

"If you are a Demon, you must have a clear purpose. Someone has to track it down in order to find out. Someone who can fight against dark attribute magic too...... I can fight the dark attribute magic of the Demon Clan. But what happens in the others... When you think about Bogwood, you can't deny the possibility of being manipulated by dark attribute magic either..."

Here's what I thought.

If you think that being a Demon is definitive and a spike in a massive invasion, letting your enemies go wild is very dangerous. If we spot any traces, we must follow the enemy as soon as possible.

Furthermore, demons are known to use dark attribute magic that acts on the spirit. There are few users of dark attribute magic, and not more than me on Ars Avenue, even including Periclitle.

If you think about those two things, it makes the most sense for me to go after them.

My father turned to my grandfather,

"I don't think it's a problem for Zach to fall out here, but what's your father's idea?

He was my grandfather listening quietly, but he nodded small at the inquiry,

"If we're going back along Lake Sealyn, we'll engage Zach to track it down. If we go near Kilnarek, we'll get a call. Not necessarily without other demonic armies, but it is unlikely that a separate task force will attack this village any more than a northerly unit has ignored it. Then you should fulfill your duty as lord of the land."

There is an ancient agreement that nations will be united against the invasion of the Demonic Nation. The Caerm Empire has naturally ratified that agreement, and the Rockhart family, the knight of the Empire, likewise needs to do its utmost against the demonic invasion and contribute to the security of neighbouring countries. My grandfather's duty refers to it.

My father replied, "Okay," to my grandfather.

"Zach will be tough on his own. Lord Beatrice, accompany them."

I said, "Is it Liddy and Sharon, too?"

"Then the village's defense will fall. Me and Beatrice are enough."

Liddy pinched my mouth before my father answered.

"Whatever you say, I'll follow you. Regardless of this neighborhood, it's a dangerous place ahead of Kilnarek. It's too dangerous to camp with you and Beatrice alone."

whereas Mel nodded loudly,

"Mr. Lydia is right. I'll definitely follow you, too. Of course not."

Sharon and "Me too," he complains at the foresight. The only thing Dan didn't utter was words, but he still complained desperately with his eyes.

"Explore enemy trends with six people: Zach, Lord Beatrice, Lydia, Mel, Dan and Sharon. This is an order. Guy, show him to Lake Sealyn."

My father commanded that in a strong tone.

The existence of a separate task force has not been confirmed, and even more limited to oaks, the whole number is heading north. If I were in a better position to send him out, I would have made the same decision as my father.

(I guess Father values what I feel. If it had anything to do with my mission, I'd say I'm more dangerous than this village... If I were supposed to, all six of us, including myself, should turn to the village defense, but think of me... you can't let your father's thoughts get in the way. And, of course, the thoughts of Liddy and the others...)

"Okay. We track our enemies and we always get the information."

We'll follow in enemy footsteps first thing the next morning.
