Dream Life

Lesson XVIII: Reconnaissance Base

Tria history March 15, 2018.

He is out on reconnaissance from the eastern forest to the foot of the Aquila Mountains. He had left early in the morning and arrived at Lake Seelin, northeast of the village, around 10 a.m. He was attacked by a hungry snow wolf with his arrival, but was exterminated without difficulty.

We recovered the wolf's body, but the smell of splashed blood was strong and we decided to leave the scene.

Far enough apart, Mel sounded like she was having fun talking about "the magic earlier, that was amazing". It was about the magic of the multi-bullet (Multiple Guided) Light Arrow (Shining Arrow) used in the battle against the Snow Wolf.

Dan also said, "You had ten arrows of light all over you. I think every time I see the magic of Master Zach. If we could all use this, we wouldn't need archers," he laughs. I had agreed with Mark with a serious look on his face that he "really does".

"I'm the only one who can use that. Even Sharon couldn't make the same kind of magic," he says with a laugh, quickly switching to a serious look, adding, "Besides, the archer is what the battle is all about."

In this world of war, the only place for archers to play is the Battle of the Castle. As I said before, the low defense archers are quickly ravaged due to the high percentage of cavalry on top of the underdeveloped tactics.

But, as you can see from Earth's history, the bow was the star of the war until the firearms appeared. Looked at in brackets as a flying tool, the same is true in that guns and bows can be unilaterally attacked from a distance. Even a long bow or crossbow, Ishiyumi, lacks decisiveness, but does not need to inflict fatal injuries on the enemy.

Few are better than flying tools in terms of sharpening enemy combat power and preserving their own.

Assuming a battle on Museum Hill, it is more likely to be a situation where you continue to attack with bows and arrows from above the fence than a battle in melee. I'm thinking of introducing a mass of crossbows, but I don't have to see an example of Cressy's battle - the famous battle of England's long archers for breaking French crossbowmen and heavy-duty cavalry - and the shooting by a good archer should be more effective than a crossbow.

I know that even for Dan I said it, and I'm only making it a joke story, but I wanted to make sure that I put the emphasis on bows and crossbows, Ishiyumi, on Mark, the archer's Hope.

Proceeding east from Lake Seelin, you enter the foothills of the Aquila Mountains. Still, the gradient isn't harsh, but I can tell you've obviously gone into the mountains. And many dangerous demons begin to emerge from around here. Especially at this time when the snowmelt begins, you can't be alarmed because the hungry demons come down to near the foot.

I ask Dan, "Sorry, but stay ahead of me," and I tell Mel, "I'm going to try to avoid fighting as hard as I can." Originally, the purpose of this one was to investigate sentinel activity and the location of the base installation, not the elimination of demons. Mel said, "Okay," and nodded loudly.

Getting into the mountains makes it even harder to walk. We must avoid it each time, as small valleys and collapsed cliffs created by snowmelting water appear.

Fortunately, a relatively weak demon just sporadically strikes me in the morning, and Dan almost walks away on his own.

Around noon, we had lunch on a spectacular ridge. It's about seven or eight kilometers east of the village, and the altitude is about a hundred meters based on the village. Looking west, the eastern forest continues and the village hills and fields are clearly visible. I can't see right into the woods, but I can confirm the Arn River - a river that flows north of the village - or the Woodford River - a river that flows into a black pond south of the village.

I took the telescope out of the storage magic Inventory and looked at Kanga Hill to confirm the tower for anti-aircraft use.

(I guess the weather depends, but if you're this far away, you can see enough wolf smoke as long as you have a telescope. Where and what bases to build…)

You won't find it in this scenic place, or even in the thousands of units of the army, if it passes through the deep woods. In other words, people need to walk through the woods and scout to find their enemies. Conversely, in this splendid place you can see the whole thing from the flying demons.

Assuming the enemy is a demon tribe, a reconnaissance by a wing demon tribe can be considered. In the past, it has been confirmed that it looks like a wing demon tribe around Fort Toa in the Kingdom of Kaum, in the eastern part of the Kingdom of Lax, and even around Periclitle. So, if you create a base in a less prominent location, the Winged Demons will find you and the scout personnel will likely be targeted.

(Think about it, maybe you should disguise it as a cave or something so it's as discreet as possible...)

After lunch, we climb further up the mountain of Aquila. After about an hour, the altitude exceeds two hundred meters, and the mountains increase in danger.

"That's the limit around here," he whines on a cliff that can look around. Mel asked me, "Won't you check ahead?"

"I'm afraid of accidents when it's so dangerous. It would be more effective to widen the range than to go in the back"

Dan and Mark nod at my words. Mel also said, "Right. Regardless of Mr. Guy or Dan, if it's me, I don't seem to be able to afford to look around," he laughs.

Then we head south, but at this altitude there are many cliffs and other obstacles that do not allow us to proceed properly.

(Even those of us in light clothes, that means this much is not suitable for the march of the great army. I would still prefer a place where I can intensively scout around the mountain hem......)

Around five to seven kilometers from the village of Rasmore becomes the mountain hem of Aquila. The place where the herd of oaks went through is also around, and when even tough physical demons are in the number of hundreds, there are a limited number of places they can travel.

Once we get down the mountain, we head south again.

We proceeded through the woods for about two hours and reached the Woodford River. The Woodford River is a small river that uses spring water from all over the Aquila Mountains as a source of water, but the snowmelt causes a lot of water this time of year.

The day is already tilting and the woods are starting to dim. Today's trip ended here and we decided a short distance from the riverbank to a camp location and started getting ready.

Dan will install a songko or other alarm device around him, during which the other three will collect firewood.

The food is stored in my storage magic Inventory in the morning, so it doesn't need to be cooked, but it needs to be burned to keep warm in March.

Today's travel distance is like seventeen or eight kilometers, but the fatigue is greater than expected due to traveling through the mountains.

(I can't say anything because I don't have a map, but around here, it's seven or eight kilometers in a straight line from the village? You won't get lost because you're along the river... you can cover the mountain hem of Aquila adequately if you get out of this neighborhood to the enemy. Besides, the journey time from the village is about three hours, so even if you stay overnight, you can take turns around noon, and you can make enemies as far as ten kilometers from the village...)

It was originally intended to create a reconnaissance base along the Woodford River. The reason is that it is advantageous along the river, which is marked to go without hesitation to a disguised stronghold in the deep woods, that safe drinking water can be easily ensured, and that it is easy to disguise when creating a stronghold because the rock is formed by water and the terrain is more complex than others.

"Tomorrow we will look for a place around here that could be based..."

Explain your plans for tomorrow as you surround the bonfire.

When he finishes preparing for the camp, he puts the dishes made by Maid Chief Molly out of the inventory on a folding table. Still a hot stew, freshly baked bread, and a boiled vegetable salad with bacon, it's so extravagant it doesn't seem like a camp.

Mark looked frightened, "If you're with Master Zach, it looks like you'll enjoy reconnaissance," he said.

Mel nodded at it and said to Mark, "Since Master Zach learned this magic, it's gone completely bitter in the mountains," and Dan smiled at me, "I can eat Mr. Molly's food, so it's much more luxurious than home," he said.

I guess there is a difference in the content of the meal between the home and the servant's house, but the Lockhart family meal was relatively qualitative and there was no perception of a luxurious meal.

"Really? The ingredients aren't using that good stuff either, and Claire's cooking skills are good, so aren't they that different?

Dan's mother, Claire Jakes, used to help Molly and is still here to help when customers come. Plus his father, Guy Jakes, often goes into the woods, and since he comes to tailor wild birds, rabbits, etc., the ingredients shouldn't be bad either.

Before Dan answered, Mel said, "Your mansion suits Master Zach, so it's delicious. Looks like Mr. Molly uses a lot of seasonings, too," he replies with a serious face.

All I could do was say, "Really..."

Both Mel and Dan live with me away next to the west side of the mansion, except for a meal. In my case, we often eat at the mansion, but Dan, the children of his squire, can't even eat at home, they often eat at their own parents' house. Of course, I eat with all of Zach Sextet once every few days, but everyone is busy and I can't afford to eat much.

I've never complained about Molly's meal myself, but I had a lot of suggestions for improvement. Especially the use of spices and herbs and the addition or subtraction of meat and fish. Of course, I wasn't cooking myself, so I can only put it in an imaginary way.

"Molly is also studying with Tricia and Gene. Me and Sharon are going to be taught a lot..."

Mel's story says Molly, along with her daughter Tricia and daughter-in-law Gene, saw the cookbook I got at Doctus and studied it every day.

"... and there are incredible spices and herbs in the kitchen of your mansion. There were also a few herbs in the house of Mr. Littriff and Mr. Novello, who were next door in Doctus..."

When he was in Doctus, Mel was being taught to cook at the Littriff and Novello houses next door with Sharon. It seems that that's when we learned about the general family situation in Doctus, and compared to that, we have an incredible array of ingredients.

(I do go to the country for a bit, because I don't use a lot of pepper either... we have wild meat "Givier" on the table, because if I found it, I would buy it depending on allowances, because I also have nutmeg, cloves, thyme and oregano...)

Talking about that keeps me up at night.

The sleepover went with me and Mark, Dan and Mel, but the demon never showed up and we had a safe morning.

From that morning onwards, we will focus on investigating this area and looking for a candidate for the establishment of a base.

Going back to the Woodford River gradually deepens the valley and becomes a gorge. We went about half an hour and found a waterfall about five meters down.

When I groaned, "It's a waterfall..." Dan said, "I've heard it from my father".

"There are a lot of cliffs ahead, and they say it's pretty dangerous. I heard my father and Mr. Hector weren't going any further."

Apparently, we've come to the limit along the Woodford River. Former adventurer Guy and Mel's father Hector Marron, who served as scouts in his grandfather's unit, are scouts contending for one or two at the Lockhart family. I guess the fact that they don't go any further than this is a dangerous place that cannot be broken by normal equipment.

I said, "Copy that," and then I gave instructions, "Let's go back to where we camped and find the downstream side."

Once we return to the camp, we will now proceed to the downstream side. Moving on about enough, he found rocks about five meters high and seven or eight meters wide. It was about twenty meters from the river and also about five meters from the river surface, and there seemed to be no risk of submerging even after heavy rain.

We're going to use this as a candidate and check the perimeter. Big trees grow and feel slightly dim, but there are few grasses of sediment, just enough to find demons and animal footprints.

(Here or here... you won't get lost on this rock... camouflage it to this and it shouldn't be noticeable...)

Check the perimeter of the rock, but the rock is firmly buried on the ground and there is no sense of instability at all.

"Join new rocks into this rock to create a base. I know it'll be over in about three hours, but I need perimeter alert."

Dan and Mark answered yes and began to be on perimeter alert. Do you mean Mel's my escort, right behind you?

There are ways to penetrate larger rocks, but the breakdown of natural stones is surprisingly difficult. This is different from what I made myself, because I don't know the composition, so it's hard to imagine for that matter, and it consumes a lot of magic.

This time we will create a base in a way that will be added to the larger rock. Much the same way to make a tower is to raise the soil from the ground and create a cavity inside. It would be enough for about a few square meters, as it is about the size of a space for about four people to sleep and the extent of a meal to make a meal.

This rock is shaped close to a rectangle, with one side perpendicular to whether something caused it to crack. With this surface on the wall, it is not so difficult to create a space of about five meters wide, three meters deep and two meters high.

Carefully raise the ground next to the Great Rock with the magic of the earth wall (Earthwall). The raised soil turns only the bottom into stone, leaving the top as the soil. I mean, make it look like half the rock is buried.

A sloped ground appeared on the side of the rock. Now that the grass is not growing, the uneven ground stands out but if the grass is covered, it will look like a rock that was buried from the beginning.

Later, holes are drilled to avoid noticing the sides of the slope, creating space. Further holes for drainage and smoke drainage should be emptied and disguised in such a way that they are not noticeable.

(Smoke shouldn't be that noticeable because there are tree branches on top. After that you should be able to seal the entrance......)

Paste dead grass onto wooden planks kept in the storage magic (inventory) to create an inlet door.

Go inside. Light it up with the magic props of the lights, it's narrower than I thought.

(It's roughly about a quadruple area, but maybe it's because of the low ceiling. Well, it's for camping, so habitability would be good to this extent)

I just couldn't bring in a wooden bunk or anything, but I make a bunk bunk shaped like a rock shelf. And keep shelves with food, blankets, etc. next to them. Further work was completed by creating a chimney near the inlet and connecting the chimney to the smoke vent.

It took me about two and a half hours to do a series of tasks, but I could do something more solid than I thought.

"You can normally live in people," Mel says joyfully.

Dan and Mark will also rendezvous to confirm the comfort of using the garment.

Smoke flows through the room without filling it and spreads outside with tree branches, so you won't notice it until you look at it with due care even during the day.

"That's perfect," Dan admired with a full grin, and Mark said, "You're as amazing as ever. The magic of Master Zach. Because I'm going to make a house in no time," he said with a shuddering face.

The base was completed with bottled food brought as an emergency meal - salted pigs, dried meat, dried beans, etc. - and pans and other cookware.

(Bring it in from the village for about a night and the food will be adequate. Once you leave it here, you can go scouting in a mild state... and then the wolf smoke table, but today is going to run out of magic, so next time... and this kind of work is fun. It's like the secret base I built when I was a kid.)

The sun was past Jomtien and it was about 2 p.m. with sightings.

"Well, shall we go home along the river? Dan and Mark continue to ask for perimeter alert. Mel will make a map with me."

As we go down the Woodford River, we will look for a place to install a wolf smoke table. I wrote a few candidate places on the map and returned safely to the village before the sun went down.

The next day, he goes back to the Woodford River again and builds a wolf smoke table. The wolf smoke table is a chimney about twenty meters high made of earthly attribute magic. Many trees around here exceed twenty-five meters, but they were installed to look like stand-up trees where trees were neglected so as not to stand out from the sky.

Testing showed that smoke was fully visible from the tower of Kanga Hill and fully served as a wolf smoke table.

Though I wish I didn't have to use it, I find it absolutely necessary for some reason.

(Is it God's revelation or just a move to make you feel uneasy... in any case, finding enemies around here means the village will be a battlefield... I don't want to see that sight...)
