Dream Life

Episode 75: The Lord: The Later Story

December 10.

The meeting with the emperor's envoy, Viscount Ignacious Radford, continued.

From the Lockhart family, my grandfather Govan, my father Masaias, my mother Tanya, my brother Rodrick, my sister-in-law Rosalind and I are present.

There was an explanation of the territory and the treatment of the squire, and finally the talk of the ceremony began.

"With regard to the proceedings concerning the" Shigeru ", the Imperial Seal of the Viscount is to be given directly by His Majesty in conjunction with the ceremony of victory. The ceremony itself is scheduled around the middle of February next year, and we would like the imperial capital to come in by the beginning of February. Mandatory attendees are Lord Masaias and his wife, Lord Rodrick..."

In keeping with the ceremony of victory over the undead, it seems that the Lord will be announced to a large extent, and the presence of Father and Mother, and of his brother, the man, is a must.

"In addition to that, I would also like Lord Zacharias to come to the Empire City. This is a request not from His Majesty, but from His Excellency the Chancellor."

"Is that His Excellency the Chancellor?" I overheard it.

"Oh, you seem to have political thoughts, but I haven't even heard why you're here."

The Viscount refers to the Marquis Clement Seawell. It seems that Marquis Seawell belongs to the same neutralist as the Chancellor, but he hasn't even heard why.

"Perhaps you intend to stab nails at both the Crown Prince and the Leopold Prince. I don't know what kind of hand they're gonna hit."

Chancellor Duke Firobischer is a well-known politician as a famous Chancellor and does not do anything in vain. But his principles of action are the survival and tranquillity of the empire, not necessarily in my favor.

Anxiety remains, but we cannot ignore orders from the Prime Minister supporting the imperial stalls.

My father changes the subject as the subtle air flows.

"How are those who make the knights serve?

"I was wondering if it would be enough if you, the lord, were my lord. Originally, the reign of the knight is also a ritual that His Majesty himself should perform, but the reality is that the master has given the sword on his behalf."

The “knight” of the Caerm Empire is called the “knight", or “jazz”, and is an indication of his status as a quasi aristocrat. But knights are not necessarily ministers of the emperor. Because it is feudal, it is more subordinate to the lord, the titled nobleman. For this reason it is possible for the aristocracy, which is the master, to give it status.

However, since an unlimited increase in the number of "knights" would result in a decline in the relative status of the nobility, the knight's reign is limited to the emperor or his deputy, the Governor General. This time the emperor acknowledges his reign, but the reign ceremony itself will take the form of a proxy by the master.

My father, brother, and my three men will be leaving the village for a long time on this trip to Imperial City. Furthermore, Liddy and the others naturally follow, so it was necessary to consider the force to be left in the village. I have my grandfather, Govan, and probably Walt, the squire head, so there's no problem with the command itself.

It was the power that worried me. If either a parent or a man had to go to the Imperial City for the Knight's reign, there could have been an obstacle to the village's defence.

It is subtle whether every squire is promoted to a knight, but if as many as six good squire leave the village, it is possible that they could not cope with a massive demonic raid.

The Viscount's story made it easier for everyone to go.

At the end of the conversation, the Viscount said, "I'm a little tired" and headed to the room.

I just laughed nicely as I left the hall.

"We're looking forward to dinner tonight. Especially since wine is something you can only drink here," he added.

He dared to make time for the words that made him laugh like a gastronomer's Viscount.

After being the only Lockhart family, my father started talking about the future.

"I'm not the Viscount... I was expecting it, but I don't think it's about me when they actually ask me"

My brother feels equally out of his mind here, but I didn't see the color of agitation in my brother-in-law Rosalie. pointing that out,

"Because my father always said so. that you are likely to get a Viscount in your father-in-law's stead."

Apparently, her father, Raswell Borderline Uncle, foresaw this happening.

"And it's important." Oh and. "But what are you going to do with the knight?"

My grandfather said it like any other HR. He doesn't seem to think it has much to do with him because he's already given up the housekeeper.

"Walt, Nicholas, Hector and Guy are the decisions. Byron was the head of the Royal Kaum Army unit, so it could be difficult. We want to hear your opinion on Will."

"Let's not have a problem with Byron. He wasn't a Cawm knight, he was a civilian. Well, it's subtle if he agrees."

My father seemed to think the same way about my grandfather's thoughts and nodded small.

"Right. Rod, your point."

My father asked my brother for his opinion.

"As far as I'm concerned, I want to knight both Byron and Will. Those who supported Lockhart."

My father was not satisfied with his brother's words.

"I feel the same way about that. But now I want to hear your opinion as a Lockhart man, not as a personal affair."

My brother, after a little thought,

"Byron should be knighted. Because we need that command and guidance at home. As for Will, I think he should be a knight given his honest personality, but he's definitely inferior to the other five in terms of track record, strength. I can't be honest with you."

My father was satisfied with the answer to the same idea he had, and next he asked me for my opinion.

Let me hear your opinion.

To be honest, I have the same opinion as my father and brother, but I decided to talk from another cut.

"Kilnarek and surrounding villages will be the territory. Are you going to give Walt and the others territory?"

Caerm's "knights” are not all knights with territories like the Lockhart family. There are also many knights who have no territory and are given salaries.

We need to know whether my father intends to make the Walts knights with territory, or ministers who give them salaries.

My father is bewildered by the sudden change of story, but still seemed to have some thought on the matter.

"I haven't thought too deeply about it yet, but I guess I can't give everyone a territory. Walt, Nicholas and Hector have served since their father's generation, so I think we can give the villages around Kilnarek as territory... but I think you have an idea."

I started talking when I snorted.

"Subdivision of territory results in the decentralization of human resources. This is far from the mainland of the Empire and we will most likely have to deal with it alone. In that case, wouldn't it be more comfortable to have the trusted ones nearby..."

My idea is to give the promoted knights, including Walt, a salary, not a territory.

"But don't you think you'll reward them?"

"If it's about rewarding, isn't it good to be in a position? For example, it feels like Walt has a housekeeper and Nicholas has an internal affairs officer. Plus drastically changing the way you've been and done it can cause confusion. First of all, isn't your father going to leave this land?

My father nodded without saying anything. He thought he would never leave the village of Rasmore, a territory his grandfather and father protected by the seeping thought of blood, but he still seemed right.

"I also think the Lockhart family is only located in the village of Rasmore. Of course, I won't deny that I can change it for my brother."

"I consider this place my home too," my brother immediately denies.

"Right. If that's the case, I don't think we need to drastically change the current system if your uncle, father, and brother aren't going to leave the land."

My father said, "Surely it might be,"

"But then how do we keep Kilnarek and the surrounding villages safe? Are you going to leave that up to the commercial guild, too?

"As for Kilnarek, there are still some defense teams, so safety is ensured. After sending deputies for the surrounding villages, I was wondering if it would be sufficient for vigilante training to conduct regular demonic crusades. Even now, the city's adventurers are enough."

Demons invade the area around Kilnarek from the Aquila Mountains in the east and from the Kalshū in the north, but there has been no significant damage in the last twenty years or so as the Lockhart family regularly crusades around the area. Of course, not all demons can be crusaded, so a crusade request has been made to the Adventurer Guild in Kilnarek, but as things stand, that is fully handled.

"To the deputies of the village you should send Nicholas, who became knights, or Enos and Sims, men. It's a distance that won't take half a day if you fly with a horse. I think it would be a good opportunity to gain your experience."

What I was thinking was the education of Enos Vassel and Sim Marron, the next generation. They are used to being commanded, but not to being commanded. Getting experience as a deputy in a small village would be useful to them and to the Lockhart family.

Besides, in another decade, the generation of brother Theo and sister Serra will be over twenty years old. It shouldn't be that long before we have enough talent.

"So Kilnarek can't have deputies?" My father asks.

"Your father or brother should reside alternately for the time being. Because whatever it is, it's the face of the Lockhart family. And we need to know who the Lord was, such as the head of each guild."

"What are you going to do? I think you're best suited."

My brother agrees when my father says so.

"I think so, too. Isn't it better for Zach to look out for each guild in particular? Whatever your father is, I feel insulted."

"You won't have that," he laughs and denies.

"If I go, I'll be in shape. Now you have to reassure me that the Lockhart family is going to follow Kilnarek's path, so you better not go."

If I were to maintain Kilnarek's system, those who were the lords of Kilnarek would be better off than necessary. Whatever it is, there are rumors going on with the chairman of the prestigious Sorcerer's Guild, Wargman, as a cutter.

Even if that is a fictitious name, it makes no difference to be wary. If so, you should have an honest father or brother in Kilnarek.

"We will cooperate in the development of Kilnarek and its surroundings, and if problems arise, we will take the initiative. But I don't usually intend to come forward to the extent of advice. The reason is that we want to prioritize Luna's guidance…"

I believe that I have fulfilled my promise to God to keep Luna for now. The enemies of the gods may still strike their hands, but they won't be able to get all that fighting done so quickly.

In that case, the immediate challenge is Luna's education.

She is raised as a hunter's daughter in a very small village. You won't know much about common sense in this world, and you shouldn't be wearing magic, martial arts or other techniques to protect yourself.

"... Regardless of common sense and protective techniques in this world, I think I'm the only one who can teach magic"

"Is Lydia or Sharon here?," my grandfather says of his doubts.

"Yes, but her good attribute would be darkness. Maybe I can use all the attributes, but I'm so loved by the Spirit of Darkness that I thought I should teach that I could use the dark attributes"

Everyone snorts at my words.

"Besides, I don't think you should stand out if you're a dark attribute. In that regard, we think this museum hill is ideal."

The advantage of Kanga Hill is that it barely goes in and out except for the residents of the Lockhart family and the village of Rasmore. The distilled liquor regular flight Scotch Liner visits regularly, as does anyone who asks to see his lord, Father, but most of the time he is contacted in advance.

If this is Kilnarek, there are always unspecified merchants and mercenaries in and out, and if we do the conspicuous thing of training the dark attributes, it is possible that we will be able to see her presence.

My father agrees with my explanation.

"You sure do. Organizing your thoughts, the village of Rasmore will be the system it has always been, and Kilnarek will be run by the commercial guild as it has always been. However, me and Rod will reside alternately to master Kilnarek. And as for the ministers, they will be rewarded with salaries. Okay, so tell me what you think about Byron and Will."

"I would recommend you to the knight about Byron. Whether he dislikes it in person or the Empire sees it as a problem, the Lockhart family penetrates and lets him lead the Kilnarek defense team. As for Will, I was wondering if the recommendation to the knight would be good for him. I don't know about the Lockhart family's rightful place. But if your father really wants to nominate you as a knight, why don't you let him reside in Kilnarek as Byron's man?"

"How could you force Byron to be a knight?" and my brother leans his neck.

"The Lockhart family will always reward you if you are good and honest, even if you are outside."

"Is that looking to the future, to my generation?

"There's that too. But that's not all. Byron is distrustful of his existence as an aristocrat. You may be concerned that the Lockhart family will change. So I think we need to make him understand that we're not like the senior noblemen of Kaum."

The Lockhart family would be extraordinary if they were good, but they would be from a foreign country, but they would prepare their place accordingly. I would not do anything to give status solely on edge, like the Kingdom of Kaum. I want you to know that.

And Byron's ability deserves to be rewarded.

"Are you buying that one by so long? Well, I don't know," my father mutters to himself.

"Byron said he was leading a hundred men. That's not all. A mercenary admired him because he had both a single habit and a lid. As I'm sure your uncle and brother would understand, using people in an organization called the military requires some kind of talent. I think that's what he has."

My brother nods at my words and meditates on my eyes as if my grandfather remembers the old days saying, "Sure he does".

"It's the same about Will. I was wondering if the Lockhart family would be somewhat easier to run their territory from now on if they knew that even if they went up to the peasants, they would always reward them with loyalty and effort."

"You're absolutely right. But I guess there's another thought about Will, too? It's going to be hard in this village, so I kind of know I'm going to put it in Kilnarek."

I nod loudly "yes" to my father's words.

"Let me know about another thought."

I will nod again and explain.

"Will was born and raised in this land. Beginning with your father, Walt and all the others, are those who have come to this land. Will is the symbol that the Lockhart family has laid its roots down on this land. So if you're going to recommend it to a knight, Kilnarek is the perfect place for him to do it and stand out."

My grandfather, my father, Walt, Nicholas and Hector are from Welburn. Guy says he's from a village close to Periclitle, and Byron's out of Kaum. He feared that none of the key members would have a minister born and raised in the village of Rasmore.

"Uhm," my father thinks.

"As far as I'm concerned, I was wondering if it would be premature to treat them in the same line as the other five. I have no idea the five of you will be dissatisfied, but Will himself will be hard to do. So I didn't recommend it to the knight, but to the chief squire, who is a civilian..."

"You're the squire..." my father mutters.

"If you are the immediate squire chief of the Lockhart family, I think you are a comparable honor to a knight here in the village of Lasmore. When I think of him, I wonder if this time it would be better to be a squire chief than a knight... that's all I think."

My father began to meditate his eyes and think quietly.

Then, after a long silence, he begins to speak to Xu "Omoro".

"Personally, I'd rather be a knight than a squire chief, but it's true that being born too early is not for him. I think it's reasonable around what Zach calls the head squire of the Lockhart family. What do you think, Father?

"I think that's fine too," he nodded, and the treatment of his servants was decided.

He then discussed future detailed projects, such as his departure to Imperial Capital.
