Dream Life

Lesson 39: Bottling

Early morning on February 2nd.

Under more and more skies, three knights, bracketed in stainless steel tanks on horses, left Seawell Castle.

Due to the bad weather today and the fact that I went around two days in a row to see where the distillery is scheduled to be built, I plan to hit the rest day.

Of course, my parents and my brother are no different today from being stuffed with the knowledge they need in Imperial City.

My schedule, but in the morning at the final meeting of the planned distillery construction site, I'm going to do the work of filling bottles of Mulan Village wine in the afternoon.

The rest of the Lockhart family seem to relax. Even so, seriously, they all work in training, except for Liddy.

However, there will be no joint training with the stationed Imperial Army. That's the reason, but they say it's because the Imperial Army here is low skilled and not trained.

My sister Serra was angry when we talked about it.

"Listen, Brother Zach! There are no strong people here! It's a hundred times better to train with the vigilante, already!

And Theo's in tune.

"I sure did. I wasn't expecting anyone as strong as Sister Beatrice or Brother Rod, but at least I wanted someone as strong as Luke."

Luke Wilby, who has become a new squire, is a swordsman level thirty-eight. It's an unusually high level for a peasant vigilante to rise, but I don't think there's a swordsman to that extent.

"Doesn't that just happen? No matter how much, that won't happen."

There are thousands of policing units stationed here in Seawell City. However, it's not a cavalry-centric offensive formation like a regular corps, it's an infantry-centric formation.

The skill of the security forces is inferior to that of the Regular Corps, which is an expatriate army, but still it cannot be that there is no one beyond level 35, i.e. a level 5 mercenary class.

Ask Sim Marron, who attended the training,

"You certainly didn't see it. Precisely on level thirty, my vigilante seemed more likely to stand up, as Serra said."

Not only that, but he took part in the training and applied for a mock fight, but he didn't take one.

He seems to be butting in when he hears rumors that the Lockhart family has prevailed in a mock fight against the elite of the Fourth Corps in Ezarrington.

(I guess I didn't deal with them because the outside world is bad when it comes to losing to the peasants on the border. Someone with somewhat of an arm might have hidden somewhere if he didn't dress up in case he lost...)

I have trouble getting the Imperial Army badly provoked by the outraged Selah, so I said, "I have no choice. It's peaceful around here," I forgive you.

Mel, who was listening beside me, drew my thoughts.

"I'll take care of Serra's opponent. How about you and Master Theo," he says and laughs nicely.

Serra goes to prep with light footsteps like saying "yeah" and skipping.

Theo, on the other hand, said, "Sister Mel, I'm glad Brother Zach or Sister Lydia is here" and looked at this one.

Usual Mel treats Theo and Serra more gently than her real sister, but when it comes to training, people change. I guess I thought I had to be prepared for a fracture, just like my grandfather, Govan, to beat him mercilessly.

"I can't, but I'll ask Liddy. Maybe you'll be there in the morning."

And when I say that, I say, "Well, I'll hang in there!," he says, chasing his sister cheerfully. Whatever you say, Theo likes to train.

After dropping off the members who are going to train, we will discuss the construction of the distillery with the clerks headed by Viscount Radford.

The training of distillers has already begun and training is due to be completed again next year. Exactly the business of risking the fate of the Marquis of Seawell, so the motivation of the craftsmen will not be taken by those seconded by the Blacksmith Guild.

The construction of the distillery itself should start around the middle of next year to match it, but the problem is the installation and maintenance of the distiller.

Here in the city of Seawell there is little demand for firearms and branches of the Blacksmith Guild do not exist.

The absence of a branch means the absence of a Dwarf blacksmith.

Separately, blacksmiths don't have to be dwarves, but they'll need good blacksmiths to make the sized distillers they use in Lasmore Village.

Except if you develop a lot of manufacturing equipment, which doesn't exist at the moment, which means you're going to really need a Dwarf blacksmith to enlarge your distiller.

As the history of distilled liquor on Earth suggests, in the beginning there is also no option of making it in small distillers, but if you have a Dwarf blacksmith you can scale it relatively easily, it would be normal to want to make it a large distiller that is efficient.

"Hiring a Dwarf blacksmith would be the most realistic way. Fortunately, there are no Dwarf blacksmiths in this city, and there's not enough booze to deplete them, so you won't be able to rub them."

Dwarf blacksmiths have something like territory. In the case of smaller villages and towns like the village of Rasmore, they are self-regulating themselves to avoid becoming more than a certain number because too many dwarves deplete alcohol.

On the other hand, the city is so rich in alcohol that it is said to be a city of wine. Unless, of course, the more it overflows with Dwarves, the more about ten people for distiller building, the less depletion problems arise.

"The only thing I'm worried about is whether the hopeful will not arrive because of the chance of training in the village of Rasmore. That's going to be a big deal when I recruit..."

All the Seawell Marquises are snorting at my opinion.

"Surely if you speak up, Plymouth, though, the Dwarves will be gone. I should probably move about this myself."

Viscount Radford nodded at the Marquis's words,

"I have heard that Dwarves in Plyms have already started training. Since the Ezarrington branch wants to go to the village of Rasmore, it must be reasonable to speak up, but I feel terrible considering what it will be..."

There's a Fourth Corps in Ezarrington that doesn't know when to deploy. As a result, the blacksmiths at the Ezarrington branch have not decided when they can go to the village of Rasmore. Naturally, the distilled liquor production plan on Ezarrington territory is close to blank.

If you take a distilled liquor production plan at Seawell like that, it's not surprising that there's blood rain among the Dwarves over to Rasmore Village. No one would be surprised if a Dwarf blacksmith disappeared from Ezarrington.

"That's true. Why don't you talk to the Plymouth branch? It will be natural to ask the Plymouth branch, which is looking at the whole empire for the establishment of a new branch. However, if you ask the Plymouth branch, the Dwarf of Imperial Capital is going to raise his hand and you may be able to rub it with the other branches..."

An organization of blacksmith guilds within the Empire, but the Imperial Capital Plymouth branch combines the headquarters of the Caerm Empire, which binds the branches of the Caerm Empire. For this reason, requests for the establishment of branches within the Empire should be made to the Plymouth branch.

However, there does not seem to be a clear rule on this, and the headquarters are partitioned when a training institute is created in the imperial territory, the village of Rasmore. Most importantly, the training institute in the village of Rasmore may not be helpful, as it is also an independent organization not under the headquarters of the Empire.

"In the meantime, when I go to the Imperial City, I ask the Plymouth Branch Manager from me. It's horrible because I don't know what's going to happen... Zacharias, I'm sorry to have to go out with you."

Although the Marquis decided to ask the Plymouth branch, he still seems anxious.

"Yes, I just have no idea what's going to happen if I go"

Subsequently, the results of the examination on raw materials were reported. For the time being, both the "Fine" type, which distills only a small amount of white wine made in Seawell territory, and the “Marl” type, which distills the wine because it squeezes it.

By the way, red wines are not suitable for distillation because distillation as they are leaves the skin tannic or flavorful.

Fine-type brandies are made with only a few white wines because distillation is easy.

Twice distillation is sufficient because the alcohol content of white wines is about ten degrees and can be increased to about triple in a single distillation.

But I don't know how much alcohol can be extracted because I squeeze it. As a result, the question arises as to how many times to distill it, but since there is nothing to measure the alcohol content, it will depend on the sense of the artisan.

This is where Scott was struggling, too, and he made it while comparing both initially when he started.

After checking all the items, the Marquis has said with a serious look, "Please continue to do so".

Though moisturized with wine, distilled liquor is probably due to slow recovery of funds and difficulties as a business. Of course, I'm not so worried as far as I'm concerned because I'm also giving advice on that, but I guess I'm anxious as head of territorial management.

"Even as I am, I would love to make Seawell Brandy a success. Although this is the best reason I want to drink it. We'll work with you anytime, so say anything. We will cooperate to the maximum extent possible."

Thus, of the purpose of this journey, the biggest interest for my hobby, the Seawell Brandy Production Plan, was drawn up.

That afternoon.

Due to the completion of the distillery production meeting in the morning, work is scheduled in the afternoon to ascertain whether Mulan Village wines are suitable for long-term aging.

The weather has been bad since this morning, but it finally rained.

Fortunately, the Knights of Seawell, who went to pick up the wine, were back before they got off, and I have three 20-litre stainless steel tanks lined up with wine on hand.

It has been placed directly in the tank from the barrel and rocked with horses, making it likely that the starch is turning. As a result, it is placed into the tank-by-tank storage magic (inventory) to accelerate time and precipitate.

Since this task cannot be shown, I did it in my room, but I am accelerating my time a thousand times, so just keeping enough in calms the starch enough.

Liddy, Beatrice, Mel, and Soshi Luna will help in the afternoon. Join the four of them to the kitchen and take out the stainless steel tank with one painting they paid for.

After serving the tank, prepare the bottle and the cork, as well as the cork punching tools.

Then, after boiling the bottle, return to the inventory and allow to cool to dryness.

(I think this magic that you make is useful. It's magic that has to be my brewery...)

I'm thinking about that, but I'll call the three of you because the cooling will be done soon.

"We're going in the same role as usual. Liddy and Mel transfer the wine, and Beatrice punches in the cork. Eventually, I'll check and seal it. Luna helped me. All you have to do is hand me what I said. Beatrice should pay particular attention because this time I have a bottle and cork I made out of Seawell. The strength of the bottle and the hardness of the cork are different."

As soon as a single piece of caution is given, the work begins.

The scent of sweet and sour refreshing wines wraps the workplace, but nobody opens their mouths and quietly proceeds with the work.

This is to prevent bacteria from entering the wine by talking. Everyone, including me, wears an apron and a mask, and their hair is covered with a bandana-like cloth.

Since there are sixty liters, a full bottle will serve eighty bottles. After I check the wine from the finished items and make sure there is no problem with the cork, seal it with an aluminum cap seal or wax.

The aluminum cap seal is also made by my hand, and the last intimacy uses magic to add heat. There were times when lead was used in materials other than aluminum, but I do not intend to use it in the first place because of the risk of lead poisoning and the high price and cost of lead.

For bottles made of seawell, seal them with the wax used here. To see if long-term aging is possible using the same method.

The work itself ended in about an hour because everyone but Luna is used to it.

"Seawell's bottle has a tiny mouth size and it's hard to get cork in. Well, the cork itself is harder than what you made."

"Right. The amount in was also subtly different from bottle to bottle. I also felt a little bumpy when I could stand up..."

That's what Beatrice and Mel think.

In the meantime, I put it all in the inventory because I finished putting it all in, and today's work is done.

"When are you going to open it, by the way? You're gonna let me see the flavor about tomorrow, right?

Red wine lover Beatrice asks, nibbling. It's like a tiger with a prey in front of him is nodding his tongue.

"I'm going to open it tomorrow night. That's roughly three years of aging, so I can fully understand the changes in flavor."

Because it is accelerating a thousand times, it will age for 26,000 hours tomorrow night.

"Looking forward to it. How many bottles will you give to Master Ignacious?

"As soon as I can, I'm going to give you half of it. So far, 10 bottles each in four patterns in three, six, eight, twelve years."

I heard you give me half of it, and Beatrice's tiger ears look slightly down.

"When I get back to the village, I have a barrel, so be satisfied with it. You can't drink as much as you want."

And when I say that, I say, "You have no choice," and I say, "I'm so sorry." I laugh at that expression unexpectedly.

All work has been done, but it is only before three o'clock and there is more than an hour to train in the evening.

"Do you want a relaxing cup of tea because it's a corner? The sweets Luna bought me should go quite well."

What Luna bought three days ago, January 29th, was a macaroon and raisin pound cake. I've found other anchovies.

(You totally forgot the anchovies. It should have been in Ezarrington too... and with this one there are more variations of booze knobs at once. I asked Beatrice, but it looks like Luna knew it existed from the beginning, and she's from around Europe? Well, even in Japan in my time, anchovies were normal, so I might not be able to say where...)

At the time of this shopping, it seems Luna was actively talking. I think it's time to start training to survive, but I don't want to fail because I'm too anxious.

(Difficult timing. But no rush...)

With that in mind, I was watching Luna prepare for tea.
