Dream Life

Episode VIII: Gideon Dyer

It was two winters ago that I calmed Fortis down.

About two months before that, Fran, his wife, an arrowhead who tried to return to Fortis after working at Aurelia, was sickened. It looked like a lung disease, and every time I coughed, I vomited blood and lost weight watching.

He was behaving like a temperament, but the healer of our regiment had no hand at all, and the regiment left it to Clyde, and I stayed with Fran and Aurelia.

Luckily the famous elf healer of Sartooth came to Aurelia. It meant that the Imperial nobility begged me to go to the Imperial capital Plymouth and stop by Aurelia on the way home.

I used every handover to apply to see the healer and manage to get him to do the treatment.

At that time, the healer told me, "If I was a month late, it would have been too late. You should see a little more about your family and not worry too much".

His words pierced his chest.

That's when I was 43 and Fran had just crossed 40. I had frequent minor injuries, but I never got sick, and I wasn't aware that I was making it impossible. But on second thought, every time I was impotent, I kept worrying about her.

In the crusade of the evil dragon in the depths of the Saeum Mountains, he went in without the support of a magician and was badly injured, and in the crusade of the Bandits of the Porta Mountains, he fell into a trap without listening to Clyde, and nearly lost his life in jeopardy.

I myself had broken it off that I was a man until I died, but I guess that's not how it went for Fran. I didn't like it this time either. If Fran dies first, I can't live. Enough to think of that.

Three months later, Fran was feeling better and returned from Aurelia to Fortis.

After I returned, I immediately declared my retirement.

Fran seemed happy on the inside, although he complained in words. Probably because I knew that my body wouldn't be able to take requests with me. In fact, I still haven't gotten my old strength back. Well, I think I weighed too much back.

My sudden declaration of retirement surprised a lot of people.

My friend Clyde said, "What are you going to do with the Dyer Mercenaries!" and I've hit so much anger that I yell in the middle of headquarters. That's because I made up my mind, and when I explained why, he figured out, "I don't know what else to do."

I'll change my mind, but I have two sons and one daughter. My boys are both just over twenty, but they're the same mercenaries as me. If you are in another mercenary regiment not to spoil it, you have managed to reach the sixth level, which is said to be the middle class.

My daughter doesn't seem to want to be involved in mercenary operations, she joins a staunch merchant in this city and doesn't really lean on the house.

These three, but I kept making them struggle when they were little.

Fran's guy didn't get much time off from work, and he came back to the regiment as soon as the kid was born. Not only that, but the children traveled with the mercenary regiment from the time of whether or not they would be seated on their necks. For that reason, there were only mercenaries of rough things around, and friends of the same age could not.

I've been so indifferent to my family since I retired.

After returning to Fortis, he lived relaxed while nursing Fran. But it was a painful day for me to only be able to fight. I couldn't forget the freaking feeling of that moment of risking my life, and I had a stuffy day.

That's when I brought in a story about Clyde who retired with me and became guild leader.

"Well, why don't you teach the young guys the sword"

The moment I heard it, I was in the mood to say anything more now.

"You think you can do that to me? Nobody's ever been auditioned before. You know that, too."

"I know, of course. But I've never even done a guild leader before. But they're still doing it. It's not fair for you to lead an easy hiding life. So struggle with a job you've never done either."

That's what I say in my mouth, but I know exactly what you're saying thinking about me. Still, I honestly couldn't take it.

"When I do an audition, I'm not going to get hurt. Being crushed by the talent in the corner is a problem for you as an guild, isn't it?

When I gave it back, I said, "I've been thinking about it," and he forced me into mentoring.

A few days later, Clyde found out what he was thinking.

One is to place a good healer exclusively in the training area. He said this mimicked the way he was going at the Rockhart family, the Knight of the Empire.

"Remember Russell? In the village of Rasmore, where he's going, he keeps a good healer on standby at all times. Especially when you have a second son, Zacharias, and another healer, Lydiane, they're talking about anything but immediate death."

I've heard that story before, and I thought the guy who's crazier than me was the one in the empire.

"We have two Level 60 healers. There are three other 40 healers. This is not going to get the dead anytime soon."

So I figured out what Clyde was thinking.

It means not only training, but also making sure that a high level healer is here when Fran's illness recurs.

I haven't said it because it's so illuminating to thank you, but so much so that I felt my eyeballs get hot with that feeling.

And the second hand he hit was to make Fran a mentor, too.

When I do too much, only Fran can definitely stop me. Because you won't have to lose your cool just thinking about how many novels you'll be told when you overdo it.

That's how my mentoring life began.

I started to think it was funnier than I thought it would start. I can't help but enjoy the young guys getting stronger. I felt something close to the exhilaration I felt as I grew stronger and indulged.

But that was only in the beginning, too.

When I put a little effort into it, the young people right now give up.

They laugh, "If you take Mr. Gideon seriously, you'll die," he says, "Because if you hurt me any more, I'll get in the way of my job," and he cuts it up on his own.

I've never been serious about a young guy in a training field. Besides, he also took care to identify the criticality so that it could be the next day's work.

I don't know if that's why, but even when I gave them guidance, they just made it a story about "getting that Gideon Dyer to do an archery," and few of them flew away and got stronger.

When the day went on and I was beginning to think it was time to quit my mentor, they came.

Yes, the Lockhart family youngsters.

The first time I saw it, I thought it looked good.

My daughter, about ten years old, ate and hung up on a young mercenary. Nor did the aristocratic child let power say anything, but rather "I thought there was a stronger man" after identifying his strength.

My soul trembled when I saw a young man dressed in black monochrome gear. Said this guy looked interesting.

Rumors of the academic city of Doctus had often been heard in relation to his work at Aurelia. With Clyde additionally giving Lockhart his name, he was also actively listening to their rumors. As a result, I quickly realized I was a genius swordsman, Zacharias Lockhart, a rare magician.

Not only that, but there was Beatrice of the Wang Tiger clan, Melissa of the red-haired (red) sword ghost (fiirless lady), who felt strong just at first glance. Of course, if you fight, I will prevail. But the strength I felt for them is something completely different, and I can say it's the strength of my heart.

Thanks to Jay, a young mercenary from the Dyer Mercenary Corps (of which), we were lucky enough to work together.

I paired up with Beatrice first.

The Beasts, especially the Tigers, have a lot more physical abilities than humans and are more powerful. Just let that physical ability say something, most guys don't sharpen their skills.

But Beatrice was different.

He's learning from the basics from a good master, and there was little gap in my view. Not only that, but there's also been a sudden attack I've worked out in action, so much so that it's been a long time since I've had a bloody noise.

I guess I just can't spare the fighting.

Fighting is a move that can be used from beyond level 70. I don't know the reason because no one has looked into it in detail, but I can increase my destructiveness or increase my defense by letting my weapons and body wrap up something like magic. You can also use it for other moves like me to see through the movement of an opponent.

If that fighting spirit could have been used, it would have been a little more of a fight. No, you might say you're the bearer of great talent at the time you made me use my fighting skills. I didn't intend to use it at first.

That made me too hot, too much.

He then fought a combination of Zach and Mel. This was fun too. Enough to make me laugh by accident.

Surely Zach was a genius. I'm not talking about swords or magic. The very way it fights is genius.

Not only did he use two magics at the same time, but he assumed that his hands wouldn't make it through, and he went from up, down, left, and right to striking at the same time. If you're that young, just let the momentum attack you, and I won't be ready to get around that much.

Two of the five senses that were even more terrifying came crushing my eyes and ears. This guy is a valid hand on the battlefield, and I was just a little rushed too.

Few guys think about and execute so many unpleasant hands. So much so that I fell into the illusion of fighting veterans my age.

And Mel was a great talent.

Because Zach and I breathed together and kept moving so that his operation would be most effective.

Though we train together from an early age, we usually can't fight to dump ourselves that far. I can't resist the desire to make my own decisions.

He then made arrangements with the Lockhart family. I worked with everyone but Luna, the brunette girl, but I realized something called the strength of the Lockhart family.

Though raised by a rare hero named “Lionheart" Govan, it was so hard to believe that there were all those warriors with such a strong heart.

Spit out blood reflexes, stand up even if you break a bone, and set up a weapon. In its eyes resided a fighting spirit, which seemed to proclaim that under no circumstances could my heart be broken.

A nine-year-old girl, struck so hard that even a 25-year-old one-serving mercenary could not rise, felt her skin poppy when she slowly rose.

After the rendezvous, I talked to Fran. She has the same feelings as I do,

"You're strong enough, those kids."

"Right. They're not here, Fortis."

After that conversation, Fran has suggested one thing.

"You want to make those kids stronger. Especially the two twins."

I know what she's trying to say. Surely Zach and Mel would also be worth raising. Especially if Mel learns my swordsmanship, he won't wait thirty, and could be over level one hundred.

Zach is close to it, too. In his case, it's used in conjunction with magic, so you won't be able to get that far, but if you fight with that body, you'll also be able to get the title "The World's Greatest”.

But then I thought it wasn't funny.

The two talents do stand out, but there's not much I can teach you. It may not be a good idea in terms of gaining experience, but I still want to coach directly to make it stronger.

In that regard, Theophilus and Seraphine hit and followed. You have an honest personality, and a strong heart.

If you're that old more than that, it's better to be closer to the feeling of raising a child than a disciple. Maybe that's what we feel unnecessarily because we couldn't raise a decent couple.

That night, a feast was held with the Lockhart family.

I'm telling them, I've never had a drink with a nobleman. Some mercenaries, like Hamish Markat in the Kingdom of Lax, have dealings with the Dukes and Counts, but ordinary mercenaries would be just like me. Mercenaries are like living shields to nobles, because they are unwilling to talk.

Fran said the Lockhart family was different from ordinary nobles, and I didn't think so myself. But I dared to dress up properly.

That's to go ask you to keep the two as disciples. Of course, I'm not willing to ask you to adopt me, but you can't just leave me with my precious child and not correct my collar.

My offer's on hold, but probably those two will come. Two people like a chunk of upliftment shouldn't refuse my invitation.

I'm just beginning to think I can go to the village of Rasmore once.

Because if I see someone named Govan Lockhart, I have a feeling that something will change myself.
