Dream Life

Lesson 28: World Map

October 9.

He completed a site survey in the Aquila Mountains.

On his way back to the camp, Professor Kitley Erbain asked me about the collapse of the ruins.

"Is the collapse of ruins a normal thing?

"Normally, there's hardly any. Besides, the ruins of ancient civilization are so sturdy that they remain in shape after thousands of years. It's just not true at all. Unless a ghost (ghost) is attached like this one. I still don't know how to do it, but there are things they can collapse. In fact, I've been through this before."

"I want you to say that first," Liddy protests.

"I'm sorry, but I've never seen a record of it happening on a site in good condition like this one before"

"Does that mean this is an unusual case?

"You will. I've seen a lot of ruins, but this one's a lot different."

"What's the difference?" Sharon asks the question.

"First of all, there are few ruins that are in such good condition. Very rarely did they find the back room in complete condition or something like that. Especially since it's really unusual for a paper book to open normally. For the most part, the ink is degraded and the pages are not turned, or the paper itself is worn out. This book wasn't even dull in color like it was made a few years ago..."

According to Mr. Kitley's story, he would not receive the feeling of thousands of years old from this ruin, and for some reason it was kept in its original state.

And it seems that the Ghost attacks many ruined ruins, and the Ghosts often wait at the entrance. So he mistook me for no ghost because he wasn't attacked right after he came in like this one.

I have also heard that I was able to get to the exit without getting lost.

"... you talked about like school on the way. Previously, there were diagrams of buildings with similar structures in the old literature. So I just thought that ruins would be the same"

"So you weren't sure?" and Beatrice shuddered.

"Yeah, but if I show any stray in that situation, it'll be more dangerous"

Mr Kitley is right. As much as it shows stray in contested situations for a moment, it is often better to make an instant decision, even if it is wrong.

He then returned to the camp, but the demons attacked again and again until morning to see if the demons were activated by the collapse of the ruins. I couldn't get a satisfactory sleep, but I left with the dawn and was able to return safely to the village that afternoon.

"What are we going to do with the investigation of the ruins," asked Mr. Kitley.

"I might go see the site again, but I find it hard to dig it back"

"A tunnel of about 100m (melt) can dig in two hours?

"The ruins that have collapsed like that still have resentment and attack from the side of the dig. So we have to wait for the resentment to disappear."

The ghost of ancient civilization (Ghost) is more powerful than the normal Ghost.

Apparently this has to do with the fact that the ancients have magical talents, and they will remain resentful for decades and centuries.

"In any case, I'd like to find out what book I got this time soon."

The book I got brought into Mr. Kitley's room. On count, it was over a thousand and two hundred books.

"Thanks to you, too. It's the first time in history I've been able to collect all these books at once. They're going to ask me how I carried it when I announced it. Of course, I'm not gonna tell you how."

He talks in a good mood as he looks at a pile of books.

From the next day, Mr. Kitley becomes immersed in organizing the book. I helped sometimes, too, but although it's fun to look at diagrams and pictures, it was a painful task to sort out a pointless line of letters books.

Ten days later, on October 20th, Mr. Kitley called us Zach Sextet.

"I'm finally done organizing my book. So I thought I'd tell you what I found out."

Not only did he finish sorting out a thousand and two hundred books in this short period of time, he had figured it out.

"I'm still pretty sure you got it, though. It's not information. I think we all saw it, but we found a lot of old maps. Some of them were like world maps I'd never found before."

That's how I took out one book. Then open the page that was interspersed with the signs,

"This continent is probably the“ Tria continent ”where we are. Because I somehow know the Sole Peninsula and the Wale Peninsula. More importantly, there are two other continents. This is consistent with what you've heard before from the survival of ancient civilization…"

The map had a continent similar in shape to the Eurasian and African continents of the planet and even to its east. Sort of looks like the legendary Atlantis continent.

"I have more to worry about. Only Jilsol Island is almost the same as it is today. And look at this place."

That's how I point to the central part of the island.

"This place is where the Temple of the Creator is, but it's marked with something. I have the same mark elsewhere, but now it's in the mountains of Aquila, or in the ocean. Only Jill Sole exists the same as it used to be. It's possible that they just weren't affected, but it's natural to think there's something on that island."

She is right that the island of Gilsall exists in roughly the same way as today's maps, but in a map like that of the Continental Tria, there are no Aquila or Saeum mountains, between the Porta and Testa mountains, where Fortis is located, it is a great lake, and the terrain of the kingdoms of Lax and Sartooth has changed dramatically.

Somehow it just looks like the Tria continent because of its similar shape, enough to make me less confident that it's really the same.

pointing that out,

"It feels like I could recognize myself as a Tria continent because I have a zirsole, too. 'Cause the other maps are enough to mark Jilsol to confirm his location."

"What is in the Temple of Claretore?

"I'm not sure," he replied, continuing to explain further.

"Because I only hear stories about that temple being closed and not even researchers allowed inside. I also thought about going once, because it would be a waste of time if it meant taking months to go and not even get into the temple. I was hoping something would trigger it."

"Is that what triggered this map?

"That's right. I've found a few things that look like maps. But the map itself was weathered, and I didn't know the scale, so I didn't know where the map was. But now that I've found so many maps in good condition, I finally know where they're showing them. And it turns out that nothing has changed since the time of ancient civilization."

Listening to Mr. Kitley, I was also interested in a place called Jill Saul.

(There's also the possibility of a religious institution that I've heard before. Well, I'm not sure how accurate the map is right now, but the surveying techniques of the old empire are excellent for the price, so at least the topography of the empire's prints should be accurate......)

Civil engineering techniques by magic were developed in the Empire about two thousand years ago. It is difficult without precise surveying techniques, such as the maintenance of streets and the construction of fortified cities. Plus, there's a dragon knight riding a flying dragon. If you check the terrain from a few hundred meters high, the accuracy of the map should increase.

"What will you do after this? Will you be re-investigated in Aquila?

"I haven't thought about it so far. Now to be honest, I want to bring this book back to Doctus to study. Jill Saul is going to gather more information before we go, and it's going to take three or four years sooner."

Mr. Kitley intends to return to Doctus to pursue his research as soon as possible.

"It sounds like it's hard to carry all these books," Mel said.

If you put it in a crate, it will definitely be as much luggage as a carriage, and considering the escort, its just hard to pay for it.

"I wish you could carry me," he says, looking at me, but I can't leave here either.

"I'm sorry," I have to say no.

"I knew I'd have to ask for a mercenary guild. We're almost out of research this year."

If it's just her, if you get into some merchant squad, you don't have to hire an escort. If you are a high-ranking magician and can use healing magic, it is easy in itself to join the merchant corps. In fact, when he came here, he said he was still being hired by the merchants.

But that's not the case with every carriage. Because in small villages, even in the main streets, the management of luggage must be carried out on its own, and it must also stand in a sleepless turn at night.

Then even if you join some merchant squad, you'll need to put on a dedicated escort. Three hundred and seventy kilometers from here to Doctus. It will take more than twenty days even if things go well.

Even if you hire a minimal escort, at least a few thousand kronas and a few million yen in Japanese yen will fly away.

"You might be able to handle that," I said, "Mr. Kitley said," Really! "and make my eyes shine.

"Aurelia's Dwarf is coming to coincide with the victory festival the day after tomorrow. I'll carry Scotch on the way home, so there's only twenty amazing mercenaries on the carriage. So I'll try to negotiate if you can get me in there, but I don't think it's a problem"

Several Dwarves are coming to coincide with the Dwarf Festival in March and the Victory Festival in October.

Two carriages, but one carries the dwarves on board and the other carries the scotch assigned to the Aurelia branch.

There will also be a victory festival this year on the 22nd of October, the day after tomorrow, and we should arrive in the village tomorrow.

The next day, when I negotiated with the merchant in charge, he agreed, as I expected. He also spoke to the Dwarves, and they also heard from my mentor and told me that there was no problem.

It increases the risk, but as a merchant, it must have been hard to refuse a request from me in front of the Dwarves. I felt bad about it, too, so I'm giving away a dozen Seawell wines aged for five years.

It's just that at first, you give it away for free.

"I can't take this! Let me pay for it!

That's what the merchant said and tried to solidify. I question the merchant's refusal to just get a fine wine, and when I listen, I explain the situation in a low voice.

"It is in our interest to tell the blacksmiths that Zacharias has received the request free of charge. If even the Emperor of the Empire had a hard time getting Zacharias' wine, he would have been overpaid."

The blacksmiths of Aurelia also drink this wine and know its value. Surely it would not be worth a thousand kronas or a million yen if it were sold at Aurelia. Probably even think of bringing it from Aurelia to Empire City and selling it for thousands of kronas. If that's a dozen, it's possible enough to hire an escort with that money.

Eventually, I decided to sell it for five hundred kronas a bottle. Based on my feeling, it is worth about 20,000 yen precisely, even if it is quoted high, and it is obviously too expensive, but I am told that this is still cheap.

Most of all, it is the higher nobility that changes the colour of the eyes, and it is not clear.

After finishing the first sort, Mr. Kitley enjoyed the Victory Festival before leaving the village with the Dwarves of Aurelia on October 25th.

The ruins surveyed by Zacharias and the others were institutions into which the survivors of ancient civilization fled. It was previously transferred to different spaces with a technique called "phase shift theory," similar to the laboratory found in the Saeum Mountains.

The facility is a school that combines research facilities like universities, where students and researchers as well as people living in nearby residential areas fled. Because of its shelter-like function, the energy sources, "mana” and food, were adequately stored, but sealed by gods who feared contamination, making it impossible to escape.

The trapped people tried many times to escape, but all ended up in jail. And all the food that had been stockpiled before Mana ran out was wiped out.

The resentment became a ghost (ghost) and possessed it, but it would not normally appear in space if it were, but was destined to disappear into different spaces with the disappearance of mana.

The reason for this was that Vlad Varonos, king of the undead, passed nearby in the year 3018, three years before Tria.

The place was also, oddly enough, a place of battle between the Demons and the Imperial Army two thousand years ago. Many of the dead slept in the place, but Vlad forcefully summoned those dead as undead in order to use them as his own strength.

The effect at that time caused distortions in space, which were connected from different spaces to normal spaces.

In other words, if Kitley had done the investigation more than three years ago, there would have been nothing at the end of the door and he would have ended up in jail.

The first cave in was a tunnel built by the Demons to cross the rugged Aquila Mountains, penetrating the most rugged parts of the mountain range. It was as long as fifty km (Kimmel) and also the route through which Vlad, who was taught to exist in the god of nothingness (Vanitas), came.

The first rift that Zacharias and the others went down was usually made when they connected to space.

It was a form of Vlad who dug back the ruins, but he never noticed the rift in the tunnel because he discovered the ancient battlefield after he went out of the cave and performed the ritual of summons.

Normally connected to space, the ghosts of ancient civilization arrived at the entrance to go outside, but the seals imposed by the gods remained valid against the ancients. As a result, it gathered in the entrance portion of the inlet, which gradually fused.

The Ghosts did not think there was a rift on the top floor of the facility they had built, and waited for those who came in and out of the entrance they believed to be the only entrance. The moment it opened, he was going to kill the man and go out into the outside world.

It was the last scratch of the ghosts that the facility collapsed. He rambled Mana to the point of letting a living human being escape, a hateful being, and collapsed the facility. This was a unique trap for the ancients who could use all the magic of the Eight Classes, often using “mana", or “power of the Spirit”, collected from nearby in other ruins to create a trap that collapsed the ruins.

The reason the book was in good condition was simple.

This is the result of a combination of factors such as the excellent printing skills of ancient civilizations, the fact that they returned from normal space only three years ago, and the fact that the facilities that maintain the environment of the facility were alive.

Most of the installations that Kittry and other researchers find maintain the environment are dead, and books exposed to changes in the environment for more than four thousand years were often decaying.

Kittry thought it would take some time for the Ghosts to disappear, but in fact most of the Ghosts had disappeared due to Mana's rampage and it was possible to reexamine them. However, most of the facilities had collapsed and it would have been unlikely that they could have unearthed anything useful.

And there was another fact that Zacharias and the others hadn't noticed.

It had a very small resentment attached to the last demonic crystal stone I picked up. The resentment had disappeared at some point, so the Zacharias were unaware of the fact.
