Dream Life

Episode Twenty-four: Cleric Chief Lair Gyneth

When did people from outside the island come to this temple of the Creator God (Creatore)? It's already about a hundred years old, because it's the last time a researcher from an academic city came along, just like this one.

At that time, I was asked to leave without letting him enter the temple just to tell an unobstructed story.

Nothing, I didn't have a problem showing the temple. Probably because God never speaks to the researchers.

My selfishness is the reason I didn't allow it. Because I had the thought of God speaking to the researchers.

If that had really happened, I would have lost much of my own life in dismay.

Because you're going to be able to poke at the fact that you're being abandoned by God.

Atro Kayan, who holds the priests together if I die, should have inherited my trail. But I don't think he'll have a clergyman. by character, not ability.

The Chief Cleric is a lonely being. Years, no, after decades, centuries of prayer, Creator, of course, has received little response from the eleven pillar gods.

He said he used to call us frequently...

There's no way he can stand that situation. Because my predecessor couldn't stand that loneliness either, and he has lost his life himself.

This temple is the Temple of Creatore, but here the gods of the Three Lord God and the Eight Class God also used to show themselves frequently. However, it is rare to show up here after failing to respond to the invasion of the godless (Vanitas).

Made for God, we “divine men” first fitted into Vanitas' ploy, fuelling the opposite instead of preventing the collapse of civilization. Though a clever trap, there is no doubt that the gods were disappointed.

By the way, the name divine man was given by the people of the previous civilization. We are not such a big fan. The body is tougher than a person, has no life span, and has a strong magic power. I'm no different from people in spirit.

Today, for the first time in a long time, a revelation has come from God. It was not from Creator, but from the God of heaven (Caerm).

It was soon after I started praying to the gods, so the surprise was enormous.

The message I received was a short one: 'Respond to your visitors'.

"What kind of person is it? How do you say you respond to me?

Frogm disappeared without answering my question.

I'm still discouraged when I'm limited. Because if you expect us, the gods would have told you what they wanted.

You can't disobey God's commands, trying to be limited. Because we are created for God, only to manage the temple.

Out of the underground temple, Atro greets you.

"You're back early," he said, but soon he guessed why I came out and began explaining the visitors.

"They say it's an escort with researchers from academic cities. There are two elves, one beast tribe, and three people. Young human men seem to be able to use all of their attributes."

This is the first time I have met a family of people with all attributes.

People are a race adjusted so that they can't use magic to protect themselves from Vanitas attacks. “Mana," because civilization was destroyed via a being now called the “power of the Spirit," the gods exist to feed their faith by creating a race that cannot use magic as a family.

Although more and more people are now able to use magic by descent, they can't hide their surprise that all attributes can still be used.

Though I was surprised by his words, it was instant and then I decided to go ahead and talk clerically.

"What can I do for you?

"He wants to talk to the chief cleric. And then he wanted me to show him the temple."

"To what extent do those people seem to know? When asked," Atro hardens his expression slightly.

"I knew about Vanitas' existence and his involvement in the world. More surprising than that is the cause of the collapse of the previous civilization and the fact that we knew that this place existed before it. I was also surprised to learn that I suspect that other light gods have something to do with Vanitas."

I was so shocked that I couldn't believe Atro's words and heard "it's true".

There should be very little material showing the relationship between the previous civilization and Vanitas. Because it is lost by the information alteration caused by Vanitas.

I couldn't believe anything about phototheism either.

Those who made light theism were pitiful beings manipulated by Vanitas. For this reason, we could not even approach this temple and could only summon and scatter it around the village.

Later, I hear you crossed to Finnish Island, but I hardly know what happened. Because the gods didn't tell me anything.

"What are you going to do? I've heard."

"Of course I'll see you. I'll think about what we'll do after we meet, but I'm not going to allow you access to the temple."

"Why? Didn't the chief cleric (Lair) come out of meditation because he received a revelation from God? Then I don't think we should interfere with our conversation with God."

What he's saying is right. However, there are no specific instructions from the God of Heaven (Caerm), and the response is left to me.

"It's highly unlikely, but it could be someone affected by the Nothingness God (Vanitas). That means we can't get anywhere near the shrine until that suspicion is dispelled."

Atro wanted to say something, but he bowed his head without saying anything before walking away.

You probably think I'm too conservative.

At the time of bringing us closer to this temple, it has been proven that we have not been influenced by Vanitas. Because Vanitas and the equivalent of Creator are not allowed to do that.

Atro is questioning the way we divine men are. Even though the world is about to perish by Vanitas, I cannot bear to be drawn to the temple.

He thinks he should act more aggressively and protect the world. Because that's all we have.

I'm not saying I don't have the same thoughts myself. I have information about Vanitas and I also know what the gods want. So you will be able to move more appropriately than those who know nothing.

But we can only do what God commanded us to do. That's the rule.

The Divine Man was created to protect the Temple. The duties are still valid, although they have failed here outside the Temple of Claretore.

It will be necessary not to come into contact with the outside world whenever possible to preserve this temple. To be unaffected by Vanitas.

And if no new life is laid down from God, we cannot renounce our present duties.

We cannot leave this temple, and no one visits it. There is little we can do in this situation.

The researchers Atro was talking about showed up.

I felt dazzled when I saw them. Because unlike me, whose soul was polished down, I saw it as a glow that I was singing my life.

Especially the only man felt special power. Probably has some relationship with God. Something made me feel that way.

After an exchange of greetings, Professor Kitley Erbain will speak.

The assistants and introduced lords Zacharias Lockhart and Sharon Lockhart felt something to say, but they were listening to our conversation without saying anything.

I was not surprised to hear what Professor Erbain told me already from Atro. But I was stuck with the answer to the straight-ball question of who Vanitas was.

Of course I can answer that. But the question remains whether it is good to know too much.

Vanitas tours various schemes to lead the world to collapse. Anyone who is available will use it, so there is a risk that Vanitas will take him in if he is badly interested.

I clouded my words. I told her I didn't know more than she knew.

I notice Lord Zacharias staring into my eyes. I felt my cold sapphire-like eyes saying they were noticing my lies.

To that silent claim, I could only return a grin.

He then asked me to show him the material from the time of the collapse of the previous civilization, but I said no because I had already lost it. This is false and the material is stored in complete form. It also leaves behind accurate information obtained through the gods.

Lord Zacharias was also aware of this lie. But I'm just looking at this one without saying anything.

I couldn't stand that gaze and nearly lost my gaze, but I mobilized my mental strength to keep grinning.

That's where the day ended. Professor Erbain still talked about it. That's what he did, but because Lord Zacharias suggested we change the day again.

I was relieved by the words.

Keeping up with that gaze is highly stressful. Probably getting some power from the gods.

Lord Zacharias showed up alone the next morning.

"I need to speak to the Chief Cleric."

The expression has never been particularly noticed in nature.

"What is it? Isn't Professor Erbain here?" I asked.

"This is a little bit of a story, so I'm the only one here."

Shortly after I said that, my grin uttered a frozen word.

"If I told you I'd met the gods, would you believe me?

I thought I was gaining strength from the gods, but I couldn't hide my surprise at the word that I had met them. I have lived more than four thousand years and even I, the clergyman of the Temple of Creatore, have only heard voices.

"I don't think there's any reason for you to lie to me. So I believe you."

I used my mental powers and managed to say just that. But he uttered even more horrible words.

"Not in person, but I also see Vanitas. That terrible power can be described as a god that will bring an end to the world."

"Va, is it to Vanitas," I raise my voice.

"Yeah, the gods didn't explicitly say Vanitas, but they said that even God couldn't confront them. And then I can't think of anything other than Vanitas."

Gradually, I can't keep up with my understanding.

You don't look affected despite what you've encountered with Vanitas. Further questions arise as to who this person is in the fact that he is talking about it with the gods.

"Who are you?

"He who was given the role of protecting and guiding those who seal Vanitas to protect the world. The gods have already told us that the role is over."

I was confused. He says this young man was summoned by the gods to protect those who seal Vanitas even more. Such a story is the closest place to the shrine, I had never even heard of it in this temple.

"Is it true that the gods were manifested! Have you really met the gods!

At this time I took off the mask of clergyman and questioned him as an emotion. Now I was nothing but a pathetic man abandoned by God.

"Yes, we meet and exchange words with eleven pillars of God in the depths of the Aquila Mountains. But that wasn't a very good experience for me."

Speaking of that with a look close to a bitter smile,

"Ahead there will appear two men sent by the gods. I'm not sure they'll be here. But if the gods want to see those two safely, they should choose this place. Probably the only place in the world not affected by Vanitas."

"Why did you do that..."

"It's just a reasoning. Examine the ruins of ancient civilization and we know this place is a special place. And yesterday, I heard it's been going on since the days of ancient civilization. In doing so, you said that past literature could not withstand degradation and was discarded. The literature of ancient civilizations is something that can even be found in ruins, as long as conditions permit. It cannot be degraded in the temple that it would hold dear. There is still a complete form of literature, that is, it was not influenced by Vanitas"

"Well, that's..." I had to say.

"If you had said that you had discarded it because it no longer made sense by the alteration of information by Vanitas, you would not have thought of this. But you haven't said a word about it. Despite Professor Erbain's use of the word" information alteration "…"

It was my complete failure.

Indeed, he is right, the literature of the past is well kept and fully readable. But on the common paper we use, about 2,000 years is the limit, and I didn't think there would be any lies.

"Let me get back to this, I don't know when this is going to happen, but the Gods have sent us. It is my desire to support them."

That's how I bow my head.

I was jealous of him. Because I couldn't allow myself to be closer to God than I am, the chief cleric.

"If what you are saying is true, let us help you. But you can't pepper the story now. Could you prove that you were summoned by the gods"

Shortly after I said it I regretted it. Regardless of whether this man met the gods or not, it is true that God in Heaven (Frogm) expressed an interest. In other words, there is no question that it has something to do with God.

"Is that proof...... that's hard," he thinks.

"Now tell me about the gods, and the battle against Vanitas that is about to happen. If I am convinced, I promise to cooperate with them as they enter the temple."

I lost my curiosity. You should admit it immediately if you were supposed to. But I wanted to hear from him who exchanged words directly with the gods.

"I'll talk to you if that's okay. But also listen to Professor Erbain."

Thus began the time for dialogue with Lord Zacharias.
