Chapter 333 - 233: Launching T2-class Spacecraft (Part 2)
From the very beginning, the spacecraft was only a means of transportation. The key to delaying the Blood Moon’s mutation lay with the Tier Five Extraordinary Item itself.
Lin Qi thought for a moment in the conference room, then walked out.
He found Wang Ziru.
"Boss, most of the parts have been manufactured. The remaining ones will be finished and sent for final assembly within twelve hours."
"Additionally, the launch tower is already being constructed on the university’s east field. I can guarantee the launch can proceed within twelve hours!"
Lin Qi had given Wang Ziru three days, but Wang Ziru had fully leveraged his talent for management and coordination, managing to compress the timeline to just over two days.
Lin Qi nodded. He had never doubted Wang Ziru’s ability.
He was, after all, someone who had managed to work his way up to a corporate management position in the Doomsday World.
Lin Qi instructed Wang Ziru, "Send someone to Hongshan Camp and tell Ding Yang that Mo University Camp’s spacecraft will launch today."
By Lin Qi’s estimation, Mo University Camp was likely the first of all the teams organized by the Headquarters to execute the launch mission.
The other teams definitely weren’t as efficient as Mo University Camp.
Furthermore, the other teams were using manned space transport, requiring astronauts to manually assist the onboard computers in controlling the spacecraft, which would only extend their preparation time.
They would most likely only begin their operations in the last two days, once all preparations were complete.
By informing Ding Yang of the launch, Lin Qi also wanted to see if the director had any other instructions for him.
"Understood. I’ll dispatch a team to Hongshan Camp right away."
After speaking, Wang Ziru headed downstairs, his steps somewhat unsteady.
Lin Qi watched him go and shook his head slightly.
’Wang Ziru is good at everything, and his efficiency is excellent. He just loves to put on a show.’
Through his Spiritual Vision, Lin Qi could clearly perceive Wang Ziru’s physical condition.
’His body was easily at Tier One strength.’
’Thanks to Crimson Crystal Stones and Potions, his physical constitution wasn’t much worse than a field operative’s; he just lacked the combat experience.’
’With this level of physical fortitude, he could even handle the workload at a major corporation in the Cyber World.’
’Though managing Mo University Camp was a complex affair and he had pulled many all-nighters...’
’...it was nowhere near enough to make him stagger when he walked!’
’The act was clearly more performance than reality.’
’In other words, he was putting on an act for Lin Qi!’
But Lin Qi paid it no mind. Compared to his merits, this minor flaw did little to diminish his worth.
Lin Qi pretended not to notice, returned to the conference room, and took the opportunity to Meditate.
After about five hours of Meditation, there was a sudden knock on the conference room door.
He opened his eyes and called out, "Come in."
Through his Spiritual Vision, Lin Qi had already seen that it was Wang Ziru.
Wang Ziru opened the door halfway but didn’t enter, speaking from the doorway. "Boss, Ding Yang is here with that Wang Qiang. They’re waiting in the conference room on the first floor."
"Got it. I’ll be right there."
After speaking, Lin Qi composed himself and walked out of the conference room.
...
"Lin Qi, Mo University Camp is launching the spacecraft today? Isn’t that a bit rushed?"
Upon seeing Lin Qi, Ding Yang immediately wore a worried expression.
Wang Qiang, at his side, looked like he wanted to say something, but after a glance at Ding Yang, he held his tongue.
Clearly, Ding Yang had briefed him on the way here.
Lin Qi shook his head. "The sooner, the better. The spacecraft I prepared uses AI control, and preparations are nearly complete. Delaying by a day or two won’t impact the final success rate."
Hearing this, Wang Qiang couldn’t hold back any longer. "But this isn’t about probability. Our chances are extremely limited. If any team fails, it wastes one of those chances."
Lin Qi turned to Wang Qiang. "Can the other teams guarantee one hundred percent success?"
Wang Qiang was taken aback for a moment before replying, "Even so, we must be cautious..."
Seeing Lin Qi and Wang Qiang about to clash again, Ding Yang quickly stepped in to mediate. "Don’t mind him, Lin Qi. He’s just been under a lot of pressure lately. After all, if every team’s launch mission fails, it’s basically the end for human civilization."
"I’ve already reported Mo University Camp’s launch progress to Headquarters. In the meantime, Headquarters will be providing cover for Mo University Camp on multiple fronts."
’Cover operation?’
Those two words caught Lin Qi’s attention.
Ding Yang saw Lin Qi’s reaction; he had said those two words intentionally.
It was a way to divert Lin Qi’s attention and stop him from clashing with Wang Qiang again.
"You can probably guess, Lin Qi," Ding Yang explained. "While we are working to delay the Blood Moon’s mutation, there are naturally others who want to accelerate it and hinder our efforts."
Lin Qi then understood that Ding Yang was talking about the Moon Worshipers.
Lin Qi’s knowledge of the Moon Worshipers was limited; most of it was intelligence regarding the Extraordinary side of things that he had learned from Wei Yue.
"How many Moon Worshipers are there within Dragon Country’s borders now?" Lin Qi asked, a rare display of concern for the broader situation in the Doomsday World.
Previously, Lin Qi had mostly been focused on his own turf at Mo University Camp.
Ding Yang shook his head. "The situation is not exactly optimistic. No fewer than twenty camps have gone dark. Those places have either run into mutated, amalgamated monsters, or they’ve run into... Moon Worshipers."
The environments that breed doomsday monsters are practically the home turf of the Moon Worshipers.
Judging by the Dragon Country Command Headquarters’ response strategy, it was only a matter of time before the rescue teams across the country fell.
But this decentralized approach at least allowed them to know which regions were in trouble and roughly what kind of problems they were facing.
Ding Yang sighed. "We don’t have the resources to deal with the problems in those regions at the moment. All the Tier Three Awakened are assigned to protect the launch missions."
"If all the missions fail, then there’s no point in mounting secondary rescue operations in those areas."
"But if even one mission succeeds, hope remains. At that point, all the Tier Three Awakened, including Major Wang Qiang, will be deployed to those regions to conduct reconnaissance."
"If the situation there is deemed controllable, we’ll either mount a second rescue or... abandon the area to the monsters."
"But for regions where the situation is out of control, with Moon Worshipers influencing the monsters, our only option will be to use nuclear weapons to cleanse the area."
As he spoke of the situation in various regions, Ding Yang found himself saying more than he intended.
If Modu didn’t have Lin Qi, then given the situation in Beining District, even a once-great international metropolis like Modu would have likely been hit with a nuke for the sake of humanity’s survival.
Tier Four Monsters and Blood Moon Envoys—these were the true existential threats to humanity.
Lin Qi fell silent for a moment. ’In the apocalypse, life is just a number.’
’The Headquarters’ decisions weren’t wrong; they were doing everything possible to slow the apocalypse.’
’And Headquarters had indeed cultivated High Level powerhouses and found a way to delay the Blood Moon’s mutation.’
’If Headquarters could hold the Moon Worshipers at a stalemate and prevent the Blood Moon from awakening...’
’...perhaps they could eventually cultivate one or more top-tier powerhouses.’
’In this apocalypse, perhaps only a Tier Five Powerhouse could truly influence the course of events.’
’Perhaps when there were enough Tier Five Powerhouses, or even beings who could Transcend Tier Five, there would finally be hope of ending the apocalypse for good.’
"By the way, Lin Qi, there’s one more thing I need to tell you."
"To prevent any incidents, please ensure everyone in Mo University Camp is indoors after the spacecraft launches."
Lin Qi could tell just by the wording that this was an order relayed from Headquarters.
This was already part of Lin Qi’s plan anyway.
After all, Lin Qi was someone who had "personally seen" the true face of the Blood Moon and knew the horrors that would unfold if one were to gaze upon it.
’Obstructing the Blood Moon’s mutation would definitely provoke a massive reaction.’
After chatting with Ding Yang a little longer, Lin Qi returned to his Meditation.
He Meditated until Wang Ziru came to the door and said, "Boss, the east field is ready. Preliminary calibrations are complete, and the spacecraft’s self-diagnostics are green. The box Director Ding brought has also been loaded into the cargo bay. The spacecraft is ready for launch as soon as the parameters are entered."
Lin Qi gave his instructions. "I will input the parameters myself. The launch will be automated. Notify the camp: Everyone is to retreat indoors. No matter what happens, looking out the windows is strictly forbidden."
