Chapter 338 - 236: The Summit (2)
Disputes between large corporations are never settled with just a few words. Otherwise, there wouldn’t be so much dirty business going on behind the scenes.
Liu Xuan naturally understood this. If Kudou Gen hadn’t come over looking to be told off, she wouldn’t have wasted another word on him.
However, after Lin Qi took her hand, the purple light from Liu Xuan’s left prosthetic eye grew noticeably brighter.
...
As Kudou Gen watched Lin Qi and Liu Xuan leave, his expression remained unchanged, though he glanced around in all directions.
The heirs of the smaller enterprises, who had taken the initiative to greet Lin Qi and Liu Xuan, instantly felt the pressure.
They quickly dispersed, heading toward the venue’s circular assembly hall.
Even though they had thrown their lot in with United Pharmaceutical, they still didn’t dare to clash directly with a major corporation like Kudou Human Body Engineering Company.
Following the flow of the crowd, Kudou Gen also led the A-level Researchers from Kudou Human Body Engineering Company into the circular assembly hall.
The summit was set to begin in less than ten minutes.
Most of the corporate representatives were already seated. Three of the four veteran pharmaceutical giants had also arrived.
Moore Potion, Dawn Pharmacy, and Kudou Human Body Engineering Company were all seated in the front row of the circular assembly hall.
Lin Qi and Liu Xuan’s seats were also in the front row, with only two empty seats separating them from the other veteran pharmaceutical companies.
Those empty seats also belonged to one of the four veteran giants; the two representatives from General Biological had yet to arrive.
Two more minutes passed. A middle-aged man arrived, dressed in simple clothes and wearing old-fashioned, square-rimmed glasses. He didn’t have a single Prosthetic Body implant.
From the insignia on his chest, Lin Qi identified him as a representative from General Biological.
"General Biological has always done its own thing, but I didn’t expect them to send only one representative. I haven’t been able to get in touch with anyone from their company lately."
Liu Xuan explained quietly to Lin Qi.
Lin Qi nodded, watching as the man took his seat. He remained unfazed.
’The four veteran pharmaceutical giants are all competitors. Even if General Biological seems ready to throw in the towel, I can’t afford to underestimate them.’
’Top researchers from major, long-standing corporations are never pushovers.’
With that, all representatives attending in person were seated.
With two minutes to go before the official start of the summit, a bright light suddenly flared up in the empty seat reserved for General Biological.
A holographic projection materialized in the seat.
General Biological’s second representative had appeared, using the venue’s equipment to attend remotely.
Seeing the hologram, Liu Xuan quickly said to Lin Qi, "This is the current head of General Biological, Jin Shanghe."
"It seems General Biological hasn’t given up after all. They’re just proving how seriously they take this summit in a different way."
’For the head of the company to attend the summit personally, even remotely, means they’re definitely planning something.’
’It could even mean...’
’Choosing this method instead of sending their original representative... perhaps General Biological has learned something no one else knows.’
Lin Qi tilted his head slightly, glancing toward the other veteran pharmaceutical giants out of his Peripheral Vision.
At Jin Shanghe’s appearance, the heads of the other three corporations showed immediate surprise.
Light glinted in the eyes of several representatives; they were clearly communicating with one another.
’Jin Shanghe’s appearance was a new variable. It meant there was new intel at play!’
Unfortunately for them, this new player from General Biological didn’t leave them much time to react.
A mere two minutes wasn’t enough to make any significant waves.
The moment the clock struck nine, Lin Qi noticed the network signal cut out.
Liu Xuan said, "The meeting is being held in a closed session. No one can use the cyber network to contact the outside world until it’s over."
"The outcome will be decided solely by the representatives present here."
’No one can use the cyber network?’
’Really?’
Lin Qi glanced at the chat windows projected onto his retina.
One was a temporary chat for the Highest-Level Mercenary Corps, the other was a window Guang Ling had set up for him to contact Aishwarya.
Lin Qi selected the temporary chat for the Highest-Level Mercenary Corps.
Wizard: "@King Arthur"
The message sent successfully. There wasn’t even a loading icon—it was completely lag-free.
There was further proof of the zero-latency connection.
King Arthur replied to Lin Qi instantly.
King Arthur: "?"
’King Arthur was confused. Why was Wizard contacting her again all of a sudden?’
’He doesn’t want to test my Ability again, does he?’
’Oh, please no.’
King Arthur wasn’t afraid of fighting Wizard, but Lin Qi’s methods had genuinely disgusted her.
Blood, hair, human tissue—it would all try to force its way down her throat at a moment’s notice. Who could stand that?
King Arthur felt the stench Wizard created was several times more nauseating than that of a sewer.
For the time being, King Arthur had no desire to try and Transcend Wizard through ’combat’.
Wizard: "Are you okay?"
Since he had already pinged her and she’d replied instantly, Lin Qi figured he might as well check in.
King Arthur: "I’m not injured, but your methods are truly disgusting, Wizard."
King Arthur gave a fair assessment.
"Disgusting." That single word was the highest form of respect for a Wizard Professional.
If a Wizard Professional was defeated in battle and their opponent didn’t repeatedly desecrate their corpse, it meant that Wizard Professional’s Ability combination was far too wholesome! They had utterly failed to psychologically break their opponent.
