Dual Worlds: I Have a Doomsday World

Lin Qi walked out of the conference room. At the door, someone sent by Wang Ziru informed him that Ding Yang had arrived and Wang Ziru was receiving him on the first floor.

Lin Qi nodded, took the elevator to the first floor, and met Ding Yang in a conference room.

Inside the conference room, Ding Yang, Wang Qiang, and Wang Ziru were sitting together, making small talk about nothing important.

When Lin Qi arrived, Wang Ziru quickly stood up, offering him the seat next to Ding Yang.

"Director Ding, I assume you’ve come to Mo University Camp today on official business?"

Lin Qi’s eyes went straight to the case Ding Yang had brought with him.

Lin Qi already had several identical cases stacked up.

Ding Yang quickly stood up to shake Lin Qi’s hand, expressing his gratitude. "Lin Qi, we have you to thank for what happened yesterday. Otherwise, Hongshan Camp would have been completely wiped out."

Lin Qi returned the pleasantry. "Not at all, Director Ding. Those Moon Worshipers were after Mo University Camp to begin with. Hongshan Camp just got caught in the crossfire."

Ding Yang shook his head, his expression solemn. "No, no. The Moon Worshipers targeted Mo University Camp because you helped Headquarters. And while you may have acted out of a sense of justice, this was originally our rescue team’s responsibility. The two can’t be conflated."

Although Ding Yang knew Lin Qi well, he was always very precise with his words.

The apocalypse had come. It was an age of chaos, and you couldn’t expect everyone to be bound by patriotism and duty.

Survival is a creature’s most basic instinct.

How to survive, how to live a better life—these were the things a normal wielder of Extraordinary Power would consider.

Even though Lin Qi was always willing to help the rescue team and Headquarters, Ding Yang had to understand and properly delineate everyone’s roles and circumstances.

Seeing the conversation drifting, Lin Qi steered it back on course. Staring intently at the case beside Ding Yang, he asked, "Director Ding, we’ve known each other for a while now. Let’s get straight to business. What’s in the case?"

Ding Yang knew that what truly interested Lin Qi were Extraordinary Items. He stopped beating around the bush and lifted the case directly onto the table.

He began to open it, explaining as he did, "I’ve only ever seen this sort of thing on the news before. This is the first time I’m seeing one in person."

"According to Headquarters, this is also the first one they’ve ever created using the special methods developed since the apocalypse. Before yesterday, no one in the Dragon Country was qualified to receive one."

As he finished speaking, the case unlocked and he slowly opened it.

The case was lined with red silk. In the center, an object that looked like a necklace rested silently.

The chain was comprised of multiple intertwined golden strands, adorned with ornaments shaped like peonies and orchids.

In addition to the golden ornaments, the braided strands of the chain formed auspicious *ruyi* patterns and other designs characteristic of the Dragon Country.

At the necklace’s center hung a medal-like pendant, resting in the very middle of the red silk.

The medal was an interwoven design of red and gold. A majestic emblem sat at its very center, encircled by golden five-pointed stars.

Two patterns resembling rivers underscored the bottom of the medal, while mountains and peonies encircled the main emblem.

The red enamel gleamed against its gold backing, as if solemnly declaring the historical and cultural weight it represented.

Ding Yang unfastened a clasp in the lid of the case and took out a red-covered certificate.

The certificate bore four large, gold-stamped words: "Dragon Country Contribution Medal."

"Holy shit, a Dragon Country Medal?"

Wang Ziru was so stunned he blurted it out loud.

Even though the apocalypse had come and the world was in chaos, concepts like patriotism were indelible in the heart of a modern university student like Wang Ziru.

This medal, a symbol of the highest honor, left Wang Ziru’s heart stirring for a long time.

What shook Wang Ziru was the meaning this medal held in times of peace.

But the reason it caught Lin Qi’s attention was entirely due to its significance in the Extraordinary Domain.

Just like the previous Special Merit certificate, the red seal stamped on its surface was filled with a convergence of Spiritual Particles, making the certificate itself an Extraordinary Item.

Ordinarily, this wouldn’t have surprised Lin Qi, but this particular certificate was special.

The certificate seemed to form a single set with the medal in the case; the red enamel on the medal and the red ink on the certificate appeared to be from the same source.

An intense convergence of Spiritual Particles was evident between the two items.

Ding Yang pushed the case in front of Lin Qi and continued, "Headquarters made this decision after receiving news of yesterday’s events. Lin Qi, congratulations. you’re the first person to receive a Dragon Country Medal since the apocalypse began."

"Like the previous military honors, this medal is imbued with Extraordinary Power. But since you’re the first person to ever receive one, not even Headquarters is sure what kind of changes it will bring."

"Headquarters may not know for sure, but they can confirm that whatever changes it brings will definitely be positive."

Ding Yang looked at the medal, a hint of envy in his eyes.

Every soldier wants to earn distinction, and Ding Yang was no exception.

Lin Qi reached out and touched the medal, but he didn’t feel any particular change.

Wang Qiang, who was standing nearby, was afraid Lin Qi might misunderstand and quickly explained, "When Headquarters issued the first Special Merit, they couldn’t figure out its effect right away, either. It wasn’t until the third one was awarded that they understood it provided a buff."
