Chapter 470 - 300: Lin Qi: The Smaller the Ability, the Smaller the Responsibility

Only one Extraordinary Item?

Lin Qi finally understood the greatest difference between Wizard Professionals and Blood Robe Professionals.

He just didn’t know if the Blood Robe Profession, while saving on Extraordinary Items during Cultivation, would still allow one to master a vast number of Underworld Abilities like a Wizard.

Lin Qi guessed they wouldn’t. Perhaps Blood Robe Professionals were more specialized in a single type of power.

Given the shared nature of their Talents, a Blood Robe Professional would definitely gain a unique Extraordinary Power upon integrating their first Extraordinary Item.

Lin Qi nodded slightly. ’As for Lin Xin just calling the Wizard Profession lame...’

’No need to argue about that!’

’What does Wizards being lame have to do with me?’

’Besides, other than Baili Xueyuan, no one knows I’m a Wizard.’

Lin Qi was about to ask another question, but Lin Xin cut him off.

Lin Xin’s eyes held a hint of anticipation. "Lin Qi, you’ve asked me so many questions. Now it’s my turn. About what my teacher discussed with you yesterday... you turned her down, right?"

Baili Xueyuan hadn’t told Lin Xin the whole story.

But Lin Xin had pieced some of it together on her own.

’There are two ways to solve this problem. One is to let United Pharmaceutical and Liu’s Heavy Industries handle it and take the blame.’

’The other way required a private chat with Lin Qi. And what would they talk about?’

’They obviously wanted Lin Qi to get involved!’

’My brother is no good-for-nothing; he’s a genius-level researcher, a future S-Class Alchemist. He might have even already mastered how to create S-Class Potions.’

’Cyber psychosis and Alchemist—it was easy to see the connection between the two.’

But Lin Xin didn’t want Lin Qi to take any kind of risk.

Not even if it was just a mental contribution!

’I’m already risking my life for the Assassin Alliance; Lin Qi has no obligation to help.’

Lin Xin didn’t want her family targeted by any faction!

Looking into his sister’s eyes, Lin Qi answered almost without a second thought. "I don’t have the Ability to help. Your teacher overestimated me."

"The less power, the less responsibility. A ’normal’ researcher like me is best suited to staying here at the Prosthetic Clinic and waiting for capable people to solve the problem."

Lin Qi had already made this decision the night before, prior to entering the Doomsday World.

He might "agonize" over this callous decision for a few minutes, but compared to putting himself and his family at risk, Lin Qi felt it was the most rational choice.

Besides, Lin Qi was certain of one thing: there was no way Baili Xueyuan could know his true Ability.

’She must have been probing for something, or maybe she was testing me.’

’A good-person test?’

’A morality test?’

Perhaps. But Lin Qi didn’t care about other people’s opinions.

Upon hearing Lin Qi’s answer, the look in Lin Xin’s eyes softened considerably.

’Thank goodness my brother hasn’t lost his mind. He’s clear-headed enough to make the "correct" choice.’

While Lin Xin felt relieved, Sister Li, who was standing nearby, frowned. Her opinion of Lin Qi had quietly taken a nosedive.

This was a typical corporate-city-resident mentality, one that didn’t align with Sister Li’s values.

Lin Qi crossed his legs and looked up at the Red Fruit City morning news, where an impassioned voice delivered one report after another.

"Good morning, residents of Red Fruit City, and welcome back to the daily morning news. Our top story today concerns our city’s own rising star, United Pharmaceutical. According to an insider, things got a little heated over at 8 Fortress Road..."

"...and the man and woman at the center of it all are none other than the incredibly popular Divine Power Lin Qi and the chairwoman of United Pharmaceutical, Ms. Liu Xuan..."

The Red Fruit City news was as worthless as ever. After listening for a moment, Lin Qi realized the anchor was completely full of it!

’Fake news!’

’One hundred percent fake news!’

’He actually claimed that Liu Xuan and I were just messing around and cranked the Divine Iron Bull’s power up too high, causing the villa to collapse!’

’What kind of news story is that? Could a human being even think that up?’

’I’m reporting this!’

’I have to report this!’

Lin Qi was getting increasingly annoyed, but beside him, Lin Xin burst out laughing.

The siblings stopped talking, their attention captured by the news report.

Not two minutes later, the old man returned to the reception area carrying four cans of "Iced Sugar Pear," fresh from the heater.

The heat sensors in his prosthetic arm made the old man yelp. "Hot! Hot! Your cans are heated! I’m putting them on the table, grab them yourselves!"

Despite his words, the old man picked up one can, handed it to Sister Li, and even "thoughtfully" opened it for her.

Lin Xin and Lin Qi both gave the old man a strange look.

But the old man was completely unfazed.

It was, after all, just basic guest etiquette.

Sister Li looked at the can. Her throat did feel a little scratchy; her earlier coughing fit had left it quite uncomfortable.

"Thank you!"

Sister Li replied politely.

Doctor Lin replied nonchalantly, "Don’t mention it. By the way, miss, I’ve been meaning to say... there aren’t many people left who haven’t had any Prosthetic Body parts installed. Want to try getting an implant? I’ll give you a ten percent discount!"

"I know you folks don’t like to mess around with Prosthetic Bodies, but I’ve got some great stuff here! Ever heard of external prosthetics? New shipment from the Liu Clan, flagship models! You can take them off, get a little medical skin repair, and it’ll be like you never had them on in the first place!"

The old man launched into his sales pitch with remarkable ease.

The expressions on Lin Qi and Lin Xin’s faces immediately returned to normal.

’That’s more like it!’

’Now *that’s* the old man we know!’

For a second there, Lin Qi had thought the old man was about to start showing off like a peacock.

Lin Qi turned his attention back to the news, but a few minutes later, a sound from the staircase drew his focus once more.
