Elf Tensei Kara no Cheat Kenkoku-ki

Episode XII: Safety Zone

"Recently, doctor, it seems like you've been out of the village all morning for lunch, but have you made your weapon?

"Oh, it's done. Mass production now."

"If it's done, let's go show it!

Lucier suddenly shouted when he was eating a soda that had recently become a classic for lunch.

I don't have much wheat left, so I keep swimming here without baking bread.

Even bread, with yeast, the dough swells considerably. Even a small amount of wheat can make something quite satisfactory, but unfortunately it takes time to create the yeast. Sneaky, I've been planting cranberry yeast for two days now, but it'll take two more days.

"It's only the fourth day, two more days, including today"

"I only have two days!?

"Enough is enough. Besides, it's sticky to the edge, because it's not annoying, it's a good reason."

"Why?"

"Yeah, show me your weapon. It's not over. I think it's more like the real deal after that."

The mayor only accepted the terms, thinking that there was no way I could make a weapon that could pierce my armor in the first place. Just because you have a weapon that can fight an empire doesn't mean you decide to fight it right away. Rather, I would do everything in my power to interrupt.

"I think if I pierce my armor, I'll have plenty to say on the spot. By then, we need a little more allies to agree with, and an impact that makes the spectacle persuasive in itself. I'll stick around until the end of the fifth day to sell favors to all the villagers I can, and I'll keep the numbers of weapons in order. See, one, two, it's more compelling to line up a glass of weapons than to show you."

I said that while sipping tea made by simmering dried yomogi and straightening it out.

Yomogi is a perennial grass, so it can be obtained at any time, and it is edible, medicinal, and has a variety of uses.

When I found it in the woods nearby, it was a small leap.

Cyril's the same, Cyril.

"What do you mean?

"I'm not looking right in front of you, I'm looking so far away. I'm always cold."

"It's a matter of habit and experience. In time, Lucier will think a little further."

"I'm trying so hard to catch up with Cyril, but I'm getting more challenges."

Lucier really wants to be a shoulder-to-shoulder presence with me, and he's made a lot of efforts.

Even in this conversation, I regret not being able to predict what I'm thinking. Watching Lucier like that makes me smile.

That's how you spend your morning company time, you hear a knock, a visitor.

I open the stand up door.

"Cyril, this is amazing. It's a lot easier to work in the field. The roots of hard trees are everywhere. Now we're going to be able to use more fields next year."

With that said, the village's biggest thug, Loreau, has shown off his quack. Sometimes, though, when a muscular and fit elf like Loreu smiles like a man as he drips sweat, he wonders what an elf is.

What Loreu brought is a wooden quay that everyone uses in this village, but if you look closely, only the tip part is metallic. This only reduces the burden a lot.

I made about five samples yesterday, giving priority to the village's pride of power, including Loreu.

While powerless women and children like Lucier are servicing the fields they will use next year and shedding their harvested wheat, guys like Loreau are plowing wasteland and forests to increase the area of the fields.

I was helping to facilitate the job.

"If only we could all work easier."

"So what is it? Everyone who sees this won't listen to me either. 20 spare quacks not used today. I brought them all, so could you put a metal blade on them?"

"Of course, I don't mind."

"Really, you can do anything."

"It's nothing, it's just a little more clever than people."

"I knew you wouldn't take the reward?

"Oh, this is what I do in good faith. That's why I didn't put a price on it."

"It's always bad. I mean, no, we'll do anything for Cyril. Tell me when it's time."

That said, Loreau leaves Qua and heads to the field.

This will raise my stock in the village again. Every time I wave a farm tool, my face will flicker for a while.

By the way, only the tip of the blade was metallized to reduce iron consumption.

Iron residues are limited. If I made all the metal farm tools, I would run out of stock in an instant.

"Hey, Cyril. I even had my hands on that."

"Sort of. And so on."

"You really can afford it. You're a good person and you're in danger, but you're not helping everyone around, you're not making weapons and you're running away from reality, are you?

It's true that we can afford it. The target number of crossbow productions was achievable these past four days, thanks to Dwarf's appearance and piercing work twice a day while vacant for about twelve hours, and he could afford to get his hands on something else.

"Lucier would be sad if I died, wouldn't he? Don't worry, Lucier will never do anything sad."

"Then at least show me a weapon that only I can do. I believe in Cyril, but I'm still scared. Because if you show me, I'll be relieved."

"I can't do that. I just need a little more time."

I laugh.

It's time to reassure Lucier.

For that matter, it's best to show him the crossbow, but there's one reason why you can't do it.

To save this village, I have to create an environment in which my opinions will prevail. That is why we are turning our hands around to be trusted by the villagers, but that is not enough.

More effective is the loss of the ruler's legs today, which is an obstacle. It doesn't move directly, but it's poisoned. Originally, it was in the loads as insurance when I failed to get into the village chief, and I left something behind, and now it's one of the poisons that makes it look like nothing has been done.

Tomorrow, to show off the crossbow in front of all the villagers, Lucier will be given a crossbow to practice later this night after everyone has calmed down.

Until then, I want Lucier to see how he worries about me. Lucier's anxious appearance in my nearest neighborhood is the most alarming.

I know it's bad for Lucier, but now I just have to ask him to be patient.

And finally, it was the last day of the deadline.

"So it was due, Cyril, but did you have a weapon?

As usual, visitors showed up as I spent my time as a doctor.

Nieje, the village chief. He's my uncle. Behind them were the children of the benign village chief refraining.

Probably brought me here not to let me get away.

Lucier grabs the sleeve of my clothes. Looks like you're gonna ask the other elves to take the day off from work and stay next to me.

"Of course, it's done. Let's gather everyone from the village to demonstrate. However, since all the patients are waiting, shall we start at lunch? And I'm ready."

The village chief laughs with his nose at my words.

Apparently, you don't believe me at all.

"That's how you buy time and what happens. Why don't you stop giving up? You can't steal from an Imperial soldier who says he won't come to the village yet. I hide the food I've stolen. If you give it to me alone, the village will be saved and I can continue my routine. Understand. It's hard for me to see and kill my brother's son. But there's no choice for the village."

On the surface, the village chief says with grief.

But the back of it looks clear. Give me away and liquidate the crime of killing a soldier.

More than the value of the Demon Stone, that way no harm can be done to the village of Elves. Of course, the fact that I raided the supply base requires regular material support while hiding it through, and I guess you'll enjoy the luxury of the spot, combined with what I stole.

"Everyday. You want a routine where your people keep getting killed?

I say with ridicule.

Initially it was a route to be taken in by the village chief, but now that we're doing the opposite, we don't even need to fake the real deal anymore.

My reputation goes up thanks to saving the villagers as doctors and spreading handy farm tools. He takes sides around me even if I'm somewhat strong.

Like a patient gathering at my house right now staring at the village chief.

"You've said it many times! Better than getting us all killed in a fight we can't win!

"That's why I built the weapon. A weapon that can beat an empire soldier."

"Then show me that now."

"I said I was ready. Besides, you'd better have as many spectators as you can, right? Everyone in the village would love to see it."

People who are coming for treatment snort at my words.

It's just not enough to pierce the armor. We need to make it look as flashy in front of as many people as possible.

"Hmm. Then, when the sun is up, it's in the village square. Wait no longer!!

"I get it. That's fine. Everyone, speak to the villagers as much as you can. On my sunny stage, it's a battle for the fate of the village."

A voice rose in agreement with that voice.

I'm sure rumors will spread throughout the village in the morning.

"Tell me, village chief. Should the village chief have no weapon to fight the empire?

Hit the pure question.

This is what the village chief in my question would have sounded like.

'Do you want an excuse to enslave the Empire without fighting?

In fact, if you look at the village chief personally, you'd rather be ruled by the empire.

Unlike the average villager, he lives a richer life than before he was in a position to allocate supplies from the empire.

Besides, although this is a serious secret, the elves to take away appear to be unconstitutionally chosen by Imperial soldiers, but some of them, including the village chief, have decided to preach it to the Empire.

I snuck into the village chief's house during the prep period and grabbed the evidence as well.

Only the rulers of the village have no fear of losing their loved ones.

So let's take control of the Empire. Turning away from the pain of the villagers.

I don't think I have a choice. Everyone is cute about themselves.

You're in a safe place, but you won't bother to fight.

But I won't let that happen.

This deception ends.

"Oh, no, I'm lamenting the state of affairs of the Empire."

The village chief's drawn expression had rendered the words unconvincing.

"Well, good for you. Stay tuned for the afternoon."

I have a refreshing grin.

Because that look would most likely touch the village chief's inquiry.

"After all, you look like my brother. If this is the case, choose even if it is unnatural......, if you fail, you will have no pity!!

"That's the deal. I'll keep my word."

When I said that, the village chief took the surroundings away.

One of the patients speaks out worryingly.

"Are you sure you have a weapon? Well, Mr. Cyril, you've really done a lot for the village lately, so you didn't have time for that, did you?

He even sounded worried about the patient woman, who was treating me just now.

"Of course you can. I was just playing because I was free."

"Looking at Cyril these days, that doesn't sound like a joke."

When the man I was watching around says so, the elves around me laugh in tune, and the area is engulfed with laughter.

It's a good trend. I am becoming recognized by many as a necessary human being in this village.

I continued to treat the villagers as I pondered how to boost my afternoon crossbow revelations.

Well, this is where the real truth comes from.
