Chapter 384: What to Do If Someone’s Already in the Room?
It was rare to see Qin Muye speak so patiently.
Jiang Qingli asked curiously, "What is it? Something you have to tell me alone tonight?"
Pressing his lips together, Qin Muye clearly didn’t want to elaborate, saying vaguely, "Anyway... can we?"
"Of course." Seeing him like this, Jiang Qingli thought he just wanted to be close and couldn’t help but laugh that he’d learned to be so roundabout now. She patted the top of his head. "Then I’ll wait for you to come find me tonight."
The girl drew near. Qin Muye smelled the familiar, faint fragrance on her, his gaze growing a little hazy. He unconsciously narrowed his eyes, his nose nuzzling her fingers.
Just like a puppy.
Jiang Qingli’s lips curved into a smile, and she quickly planted a kiss on his cheek.
The fleeting warmth made Qin Muye’s blood boil in an instant. He braced himself with one hand near Jiang Qingli, leaning in for more, but she covered his mouth and nose.
Jiang Qingli issued a command in a voice only the two of them could hear: "Watch the movie first. We’ll talk tonight."
The girl’s eyes crinkled with a smile. Satisfied to see Qin Muye nod obediently, she pinched his nose. "Good puppy."
’She’s calling me a dog again.’
Qin Muye snorted inwardly, but he habitually pressed his face into her palm. When he realized what he was doing, his tone became stiff. "If I find out you’ve found another ’dog,’ you’re finished."
Jiang Qingli turned back to the movie, not having heard him clearly. "Hm? What did you say?"
Qin Muye coughed. "Nothing."
He lifted the girl up and settled her between his legs, wrapping his arms around her from behind. He rested his chin on the top of her head, completely enveloping her.
The feeling of holding her so tightly made Qin Muye’s heart race, and he completely forgot his plan to provoke Que Feiling.
In fact, Qin Muye didn’t even remember Que Feiling existed until the movie ended and he saw him appear.
After the movie, Jiang Qingli was quite interested in the series and went to borrow it from Lin Cheng’an.
Qin Muye waited at the door, his gaze passing over the crowd to land on the girl.
Just as his thin lips curved into a smile, footsteps sounded from behind him.
Qin Muye looked up, his eyes meeting the displeased gaze of Que Feiling.
"Still here?" The Prince raised a lazy eyebrow, his tone incredibly punchable. "Poser."
"What’s there to be smug about?" Que Feiling laughed in anger. "You only got to the Jiang Family a few months before me. If I hadn’t been in the detention center during that time, unable to access the gene bank, I would have been matched with Miss Jiang long ago with my 95% Match Value. It’s not yet certain who would be more favored."
Qin Muye burst out laughing at his words.
Que Feiling found the sound grating. "What are you laughing at? I’m telling the truth!"
"Take your meds." Qin Muye pointed a finger at his own head. "Being this delusional is a sickness, you know."
Before Que Feiling could retort unhappily, he stood up, brushed off the corner of his clothes, and said lazily, "What you’re talking about is just a hypothetical."
"But the reality right now is—"
"You’re no different from those shameless bed-warmers out there."
After Qin Muye finished speaking, he was about to walk toward Jiang Qingli when he heard the young man beside him chuckle.
"Oh, it seems the Prince is quite concerned with those ’bed-warmers’ out there?" The young man’s Ruby-like eyes curved, his words hitting a nerve. "Why else would you constantly be trying to belittle them? Aren’t you just afraid you can’t compare?"
"If you ask me..." Que Feiling scanned Qin Muye up and down. "The only thing you have going for you is your status as the main husband."
Qin Muye’s brow twitched violently.
The look of easy confidence vanished from his face. Qin Muye sneered, "So you do know I’m the main husband. Even if it’s first come, first served, it wouldn’t be your turn to be the Sixth."
Que Feiling was stunned.
’What does he mean?’
’Did someone from the outside really move up?’
’Yi Nuo? Or Xie Youchen? Or both?’
The smile on Que Feiling’s face could no longer be maintained, but he wouldn’t lose the verbal spar. "Perfect. I’ll be the Seventh, then. That puts me in the same generation as the Seventh Prince. What a coincidence."
Qin Muye: "..."
’There’s no talking to this damn bird.’
Just then, Jiang Qingli, having borrowed the discs and projector, turned to look at Qin Muye.
Lin Cheng’an pulled a large, hand-woven tote bag out of a cabinet, placed the projector and discs inside, and handed it to Jiang Qingli.
Halfway there, Qin Muye walked over and took it with extreme naturalness, pulling Jiang Qingli’s hand at the same time. "Let’s go."
On the way, Jiang Qingli remembered the beautiful nightgown she had brought with her.
Her gaze couldn’t help but fall on the bridge of Qin Muye’s high nose.
’Hmm... it’s been a while since I’ve seen him get a nosebleed.’
Her stare was so direct that Qin Muye glanced sideways. "What is it?"
"Nothing." Jiang Qingli suppressed a smile. "Why don’t you take a shower before coming to my place?"
Qin Muye’s expression changed. "Can’t we shower together?"
"Nope." Jiang Qingli shook her head. "Wash on your own."
Qin Muye’s brows furrowed. "Fine."
His voice was tinged with frustration.
’It must be that homewrecker on the outside who’s been a bad influence on Jiang Qingli, putting ideas in her head. Now she won’t even shower with me!’
’Damn homewrecker!’
’Tonight, I have to have a serious talk with Jiang Qingli, find out the identity of this damn homewrecker, and figure out a way to get her to kick him out!’
...
After her shower, Jiang Qingli rummaged through her closet and pulled out a nightgown.
It was one Qin Muye had bought for her.
The red silk felt cool, smooth, and delicate. It had thin spaghetti straps and a cutout at the small of her back.
It was part of a matching set. There was a men’s version, too, which was even sexier and showed off cleavage—perfect for Qin Muye. She’d have him wear it later.
Once her plan was set, Jiang Qingli sent a text to Qin Muye: [Okay, you can come find me now ^^]
The moment she sent it, there was a knock at the door.
’That fast?’
’But Qin Muye has always been impatient about this sort of thing. Absence makes the heart grow fonder, after all. It’s understandable.’
Jiang Qingli walked to the door, then remembered the security cameras were watching. She went back to the closet, took out a long bathrobe, and wrapped herself up tightly until not even her toes were visible.
’Mhm, this will have a better effect.’
’If Qin Muye gets a nosebleed, I’ll totally make fun of him!’
Jiang Qingli smiled mischievously and went to open the door.
However, when she saw who was at the door, the smile froze on the girl’s face. She blinked. "Can I help you?"
Que Feiling looked at her earnestly. "Miss Jiang, I haven’t had a chance to thank you since I woke up. It’s all thanks to you finding the Weaving Nightmare Beast that I was able to escape the dream world."
"All things considered, you’ve saved me twice now. I don’t have much to repay you with, but I prepared a gift. I hope you won’t dislike it."
As he spoke, he brought a gift he was holding behind his back and offered it to Jiang Qingli.
It was a long, rectangular gift box.
Jiang Qingli opened it to find a small bird statuette made of Ruby.
Ruby is common enough, but a piece this large, with no impurities, was clearly priceless at a glance.
"It’s made from the Ruby my mother personally mined when I was born," Que Feiling explained.
Jiang Qingli tried to refuse. "This must have great significance to you. It’s a little too valuable."
"If it were something cheap, I wouldn’t dare offer it to you."
Que Feiling’s single sentence blocked Jiang Qingli’s refusal.
"It can also be used as a desk lamp. It’s very practical," Que Feiling said. "If you don’t mind, may I come in and demonstrate?"
"Alright."
’He brought a gift; I can’t just let him leave like this. I should at least offer him a cup of tea.’
Jiang Qingli stepped aside to let Que Feiling enter the room.
She had been staying at Xie Youchen’s place recently, so this bedroom was as clean and tidy as if it were uninhabited. Still, Que Feiling didn’t dare to look around, avoiding even a glance at the rest area, and sat primly on the sofa.
"Could you turn off the lights?" Que Feiling asked, taking the gem statuette from Jiang Qingli’s hands.
Jiang Qingli nodded and turned off the lights in the guest area.
Que Feiling lightly tapped the spot where the Vermilion Bird Tail Feather was.
The next second, a red glow emanated from within the gem statuette. Specks of light floated out to hover at Jiang Qingli’s side, bathing the entire room in a fantastical, dreamlike aura.
Like a small child showing off a treasure, Que Feiling asked, "Do you like it?"
Jiang Qingli smiled, her eyes curving into crescents. "I love it. Thank you."
Meeting her smiling eyes, Que Feiling took a deep breath, growing nervous. "Miss Jiang, actually..."
DING—
The doorbell suddenly rang, interrupting him.
"Just a moment."
This time, Jiang Qingli was more cautious. She walked to the door and peered through the peephole.
Outside the door, Qin Muye stood in a tight-fitting tank top, looking a little shy as he pressed the doorbell.
