Chapter 341: Saved a Love Rival, and I’m Not Happy About It
"Run."
Yuan Shiyao growled in her ear.
"They’re after you!"
After he said that, he collapsed. At the same time, countless motes of light converged, rushing toward the attacker, only to be disintegrated inch by inch.
But before they vanished, they briefly illuminated the dim rainforest, and Jiang Qingli saw a figure hiding among the branches of a nearby tree.
The moment their eyes met, the shadow raised the gun in its hands.
In a flash, Jiang Qingli shoved Yuan Shiyao aside and rolled away, dodging the attack.
Jiang Qingli raised her hand and fired continuously in that direction.
The simulation rounds were harmless, but she hoped the loud noise of the gunshots would attract others.
But her opponent seemed completely unfazed, continuing to attack Jiang Qingli.
Jiang Qingli steadied herself. In a gap while crawling, she raised her hand and fired. The bullet hit the attacker right between the eyes.
The figure swayed for a moment, as if enraged, then leaped up and charged straight for her!
CRACK—
Lightning flashed, and Jiang Qingli met the assassin’s murderous, golden, slit-pupiled eyes!
Her heart leaped in shock. Jiang Qingli rolled to evade, but she was protecting Yuan Shiyao and was trapped in the cave, leaving her no room to escape.
The attacker landed inside the cave and walked toward Jiang Qingli, step by step.
Jiang Qingli’s hand went to the weapon tucked at her waist. It was the self-defense weapon Ye Linyuan had given her.
The forest was equipped with devices that suppressed Superpowers. So, just like Yuan Shiyao, her opponent could only use non-damaging abilities. Jiang Qingli was still confident in her close-quarters combat skills.
The attacker lunged. After a brief struggle, Jiang Qingli saw an opening and slashed his waist with her weapon. She followed up with a fluid motion, putting him in a chokehold and pinning him against the wall.
Jiang Qingli stared into his eyes and asked coldly, "Who are you? What is your relationship with Ye Linyuan?"
He looked to be fifteen or sixteen years old, with black hair and golden eyes, bearing a strong resemblance to Ye Linyuan.
The boy lowered his gaze, his lips moving slightly.
Jiang Qingli frowned. Just as she was about to lean in closer to hear, he suddenly erupted. His legs transformed into a snakelike tail that coiled tightly around her. He bared a mouthful of sharp fangs and lunged, ready to bite down—
BANG!
Before the pain could land, the boy’s head exploded. He collapsed forward, his eyes vacant.
Jiang Qingli turned her head and saw Gu Nian toss his gun aside, step over the obstacle that was Yuan Shiyao, and walk up to her.
The moment their eyes met, the coldness in Gu Nian’s gaze melted away, replaced by urgent concern.
"Sister, are you okay?"
Gu Nian kicked the corpse aside, placed his hands on Jiang Qingli’s shoulders, and spun her around, only sighing in relief after confirming she wasn’t missing any pieces. His pink eyes were soft, and his voice was laced with a whine. "Let’s go back first, okay, Sister? I want to give you a thorough check-up. I’ll take care of the exercise, okay? Sister—"
After the sudden ambush, Jiang Qingli had no desire to continue. "Okay," she agreed.
Gu Nian swiped his hand through the air. A rift in space, large enough for two people to pass through, opened up, revealing Jiang Qingli’s bedroom in the resort villa.
Jiang Qingli was puzzled. "How come your Superpower isn’t suppressed?"
"If there’s a way to block it, there’s a way to unblock it." Gu Nian raised an eyebrow with a hint of smugness, then quickly suppressed it and snuggled up to rub his cheek against Jiang Qingli’s. "But I didn’t use it for anything bad! I only came looking for you because I heard the noise, Sister."
This affectionate, clingy, and coquettish behavior—a complete one-eighty from the cold-faced killer who had executed the assassin less than a minute ago—was a contrast of the highest order.
Jiang Qingli habitually patted the top of his head. "I know, I know. Let’s go."
Gu Nian agreed, then bent down and swept her up into his arms, bridal style.
Just as one of his feet crossed through the spatial rift, Jiang Qingli stopped him. "Wait, did you forget something?"
"What is it?" Gu Nian blinked, feigning innocence.
"Don’t play dumb." Jiang Qingli pointed at Yuan Shiyao, who was lying less than twenty centimeters from his feet, still bleeding.
Yuan Shiyao hadn’t made a sound since blocking that shot. He was still breathing, so the bullet likely had an anesthetic component that had knocked him unconscious.
Gu Nian was reluctant. "When I was on my way, I saw a few people from the student council heading this way. They’ll take him back."
’I knew he was pretending not to see him.’
Jiang Qingli emphasized, "Nian, he took a bullet for me."
"..."
Gu Nian tutted. Just as he was about to kick the man through the rift, Jiang Qingli’s tone grew stern. "Don’t kick him. You rabbits have powerful legs. Are you trying to kick him to death?"
"Fine, since Sister is asking..."
Gu Nian set Jiang Qingli down, casually grabbed Yuan Shiyao by the collar, and tossed him to the other side of the portal.
The unconscious man bounced twice on the soft carpet like a sack of potatoes. Blood gushed from his wound, a heart-stopping sight.
Gu Nian acted as if he hadn’t seen a thing. At Jiang Qingli’s reminder, he also gave the assassin’s body a kick, sending it through.
A kick wasn’t going to bring him back to life, anyway.
Once that was done, Gu Nian gently lifted Jiang Qingli again, stroking her back as he said softly, "Don’t be scared, Sister. I’ve already notified a doctor. They’ll give you a full examination and treatment, so you won’t be left with a single scar."
He tenderly took her hand, lifting her fingers to blow on them. "It won’t hurt."
Following his gaze, Jiang Qingli noticed for the first time that the skin on her palm had been scraped raw during the fight.
Jiang Qingli said helplessly, "Yuan Shiyao needs treatment more than I do. Did you tell them to bring a first-aid kit?"
"It’s fine, Sister. A few flesh wounds are good for tempering a male," Gu Nian said sarcastically, in a cute voice. "Secretary Yuan is so amazing, he can surely heal himself."
...
Despite his words, Gu Nian still had the doctor prepare medical supplies. When they arrived, the doctor first tended to Yuan Shiyao’s wounds, while Gu Nian took it upon himself to bandage Jiang Qingli.
The doctor was probably from the underground auction house. Her methods were so rough and brutal that Jiang Qingli’s brow twitched as she watched.
Then again, any normal doctor who hadn’t received special training would have probably reported the half-human, half-beast corpse in the room to the security department long ago. They wouldn’t be treating the injured with such silent composure.
The doctor worked efficiently, extracting the bullet in a few minutes.
She held it up to examine it and said flatly, "This is a military-grade bullet. Judging by the specifications, it should be from the Lower District, but I can’t identify the specific region of production."
The regulations differ between districts. Due to its high pollution levels, the Lower District has more lenient weapon laws than other districts.
Gu Nian glanced at it. "The Twelve Cities."
The doctor offered a deadpan compliment, "As expected of the Boss."
Gu Nian waved his hand, signaling that she could leave.
A rift materialized in mid-air. The doctor stood up, nodded to Jiang Qingli, and then stepped into another dimension. The rift vanished as if no one had ever been there.
After the doctor left, Jiang Qingli decided to examine the corpse.
But when she turned to look, the body was already mangled beyond recognition!
