Chapter 323: A Male Who Dies a Virgin Deserves a Chastity Archway
The photo was only a half, but she could vaguely make out a boy of about fifteen or sixteen. He had golden pupils and black hair, with an unshakeable gloom in his eyes.
’Is this... a young Ye Linyuan?’
Before Jiang Qingli could get a closer look, Fang Chi hastily flipped it over and quickly scanned the files beneath.
The files seemed to have been burned in a fire, showing only fragmented images. The people in them were old and young, but most had golden pupils and black hair, their expressions varied...
"These files should have digital copies. They can be restored," his teammate said in a low voice, leaning in for a look. "Let’s go. This trip was more than worth it."
Jiang Qingli heard Fang Chi grunt in agreement.
His vision blurred, and his breathing grew heavy. Fang Chi’s stamina was reaching its limit.
Suddenly, the door behind them was struck with a heavy blow.
Fang Chi snatched the fragments from the ground, stuffed them into his clothes, and turned to grab his teammate’s hand.
Just as he grasped his uniform, a loud BOOM resounded as the door was blasted open. Standing outside were four or five Mutant Beasts taller than the doorway, their greasy green eyes locked firmly on them!
The two of them backed away toward the window, but at some point, the window had become surrounded by Mutant Beasts, their dense green eyes staring in.
During the standoff, the teammate trembled all over and said in despair, "It really is a trap... Our spiritual power isn’t nearly enough to break through..."
Fang Chi pulled out the files and gave half to his teammate. "Take these. When I make my move, find a chance to run."
"Damn it." He cursed. "What rotten luck. I’m gonna die a virgin! If you get out of here and see my brother, you have to tell him to build a monument to my chastity!"
The teammate glanced at the approaching Mutant Beasts, the corner of his mouth twitching. "Getting to hear you do stand-up at death’s door makes it all worth it."
The events that followed were like a movie on fast-forward. Jiang Qingli saw Fang Chi rush forward to draw the attention of the Mutant Beasts, but they swarmed him. Suddenly, his teammate used vines to fling Fang Chi onto a tree outside the window.
The tide of beasts quickly submerged the teammate’s figure.
Fang Chi paused for two seconds, then turned and fled with red-rimmed eyes, protecting the remaining files. He dragged his heavily injured body cautiously toward the edge of the jungle.
He ate grass when he was hungry and drank water when he was thirsty. When he encountered beasts, all he could do was scramble and roll away to hide. His wounds would split open before they could heal, and his camouflage uniform became caked with blood.
After an unknown amount of time, the beam of a flashlight hit his face. The patrolling soldier recognized him, quickly helped him up, and sent someone to get Jin Li.
Fang Chi held on until Jin Li appeared, then pointed to the inner pocket of his clothes.
However, when Jin Li did as instructed, he only pulled out a handful of ashes.
Ignoring his splitting wounds, Fang Chi frantically searched his own pockets.
But only light ashes scattered in the air.
The entire way, Fang Chi had held on through the belief that he had to complete his mission. He never imagined that the files he and his teammate had risked their lives to protect had long since turned to ash without his knowledge!
Fang Chi’s mind could no longer take it. He clutched his head and let out a sharp, agonized scream.
The world froze into a black-and-white silent film. A dying lynx lay on Fang Chi’s back, coughing up mouthfuls of blood.
It felt like it was about to die. Or perhaps it had already died the moment it abandoned its teammate, and what escaped the forest was merely an empty shell.
Now, just like those files, it too would turn to ash.
The lynx’s body sank into a bone-chilling cold, clearly feeling the tip of its tail slowly dematerializing into particles and vanishing into thin air.
Just as it closed its eyes in resignation, it suddenly felt a warm force press against the top of its head.
In the dim halo of light, a pair of hands pulled it into an embrace, whispering something softly.
Its tense nerves, like an overused, wrinkled rag, were now being gently smoothed out and washed clean by a pair of hands.
It couldn’t see the person’s face or hear their voice clearly, but it could distinctly feel a powerful, gentle force pouring into its Spiritual Body, mending every last crack.
It was like a Miracle, granting it a new life.
The lynx opened its mouth, making a sound of gratitude. It nudged the girl’s palm with its head and fell into a deep sleep.
-
Jiang Qingli opened her eyes, but immediately snapped them shut after seeing the scene before her.
She took a deep breath and opened her eyes again.
The first thing that met her gaze was a gaunt but ruggedly handsome face, a dark brown wolf-cut, a cross earring, and a pair of amber-brown eyes staring intently at her.
Fang Chi had his hands propped on the edge of her protective suit and had been leaning in to look at her. When he saw her open her eyes, the lynx’s pointed ears twitched violently and he scrambled backward, revealing only a pair of wide, round eyes, wary and curious.
That wasn’t the main point.
The main point was...
Jiang Qingli’s gaze traveled down, past his distinct collarbones and chiseled abs, to his firm, kneeling thighs...
Although he had a great body, he was completely naked!
Fortunately, the lynx’s large, fluffy tail was draped across his waist, covering what needed to be covered. Jiang Qingli breathed a sigh of relief; she had no interest in a stranger’s private parts...
Glancing around, Jiang Qingli saw that the surrounding vines had formed a cocoon that was even larger than before. It had evolved quite a bit since she first entered; for instance, a portion of the vines had formed the shape of a sofa, which she was now sitting on.
In the corner were torn shreds of cloth. ’His Superpower must have gone out of control and shredded his clothes earlier.’
Jiang Qingli thought for a moment, then asked, "How are you feeling now?"
Hearing this, Fang Chi tilted his head. "Are you talking to me, Sister?"
"’Sister?’" Jiang Qingli explained, "You’re several years older than me. You can just call me by my name. I’m Jiang Qingli."
"Sister Qingli." Fang Chi corrected her, shy yet serious. "I’m only nine. How could I be older than you? You must be joking."
The young man’s voice was hoarse, but the confusion and innocence in his tone didn’t seem fake.
"..."
’She had heard that if a male’s contamination level was too high and not treated in time, it could lead to intellectual impairment.’
’Looks like Fang Chi’s mind has regressed.’
She wasn’t sure if this condition could be reversed, though. It was best to let a professional examine him.
Jiang Qingli stood up to leave, but the vines were densely intertwined. Using brute force, she could only pry open a tiny gap.
She thought for a moment, then softened her voice. "Fang Chi, we need to get out now. Can you open up the vines, please?"
Fang Chi said seriously, "Sister Qingli, it’s dangerous outside. This is the only safe place."
"It won’t be dangerous. There are lots of... lots of friends waiting for you outside." Jiang Qingli rarely spoke to children and said drily, "Um, how about I stay with you? If there’s any danger, I’ll protect you."
"How could I let a girl protect me!"
Fang Chi shot to his feet. Jiang Qingli speechlessly covered her face to avoid seeing anything she shouldn’t.
She was exasperated. "Then you protect me, alright?"
Fang Chi nodded. "That’s more like it!"
Jiang Qingli coaxed him, "How can you get a chance to protect me if it’s so safe in here? Why don’t you pull back the vines so we can go on an adventure together?"
Now that she put it that way, Fang Chi thought it made a lot of sense. He reached out, grabbed the vines, and tore them open.
Light fell into the cocoon. Jiang Qingli caught a glimpse of well-defined abs out of the corner of her eye.
Seeing he was about to make the opening even wider, Jiang Qingli quickly grabbed him. "Wait! Let’s do some prep work first!"
-
Outside the glass wall, the crowd had been waiting for several hours. The data had finally stabilized.
The communicator beeped a few times, and Jiang Qingli’s voice came through. "We’re coming out. Please get ready."
Mo Sinan quickly acknowledged.
A few seconds later, the cocoon was broken open from the inside. Everyone held their breath, not daring to blink.
The next second.
Two green figures appeared before them.
Fang Chi was wearing a grass shirt and a grass skirt. Jiang Qingli had three loops of vines wrapped around her protective suit. They appeared before them, hand in hand.
Mo Sinan: ?
The Researchers: ???
Mo Sinan had even told a researcher to get a camera ready to capture the historic moment for a major publicity push, but now she was completely dumbfounded by the sight.
’Is this a containment facility or a wild man observation center?’
Suddenly, her shoulder was tapped. Mo Sinan turned to see a researcher cautiously nudging his chin toward the side.
She followed his gaze—
In front of a screen, Xie Youchen and Baili Jing were staring at the "wild man" Fang Chi on the monitor. One’s gaze was filled with murderous intent, while the other remained expressionless, as if they would slice him to pieces the moment the door opened.
