Chapter 81: Ish
I stood in the quiet alleyway, taking a second look at the stunning woman who had just materialized in front of me.
She had caught up to me in less than three seconds, vanishing from a crowded plaza and reappearing fifty yards down a secluded stone path without making a single sound. I felt a brief flash of surprise before quickly shaking it off, after all, this was Uruk, a city where dragons glided between skyscrapers and ancient magic hummed through the pavement. A high-speed movement spell was hardly a miracle.
Looking at her up close, I had to admit she was utterly breathtaking.
She wore revealing, flowing silk robes of deep crimson and gold that barely managed to contain her voluptuous curves. Her long, dark hair cascaded over her shoulders in soft waves, and her eyes held a strange, magnetic sparkle that seemed to draw my gaze directly to her face. There was a natural, almost overwhelming charm radiating from her, the kind that could make a man’s thoughts turn fuzzy and stupid.
Yet, despite her dazzling appearance, a subtle alarm bell rang deep in the back of my mind. My instincts quietly warned me that something about this woman was fundamentally unnatural. It sparked my curiosity, but it also put me on high alert.
Still, I was brought up to be polite to people until given a reason not to.
I offered her a calm, polite smile. "It was nothing. Don’t worry about it."
With a simple nod, I turned on my heel and walked away, intending to put some distance between us.
Before I could take a second step, a soft, slender hand shot out, delicate fingers wrapping firmly around my wrist.
I paused, looking back over my shoulder. The woman tilted her head, her dark eyes glittering with an alluring, intoxicating light as her voice dropped into a smooth, purring cadence. "My, my... leaving so soon, handsome? Are you really going to abandon a helpless lady in a dark alley after coming to her rescue?"
My lips twitched slightly in dry amusement. I didn’t pull my arm away, but I looked her straight in the eye with a completely composed, unbothered
expression.
"Helpless?" I asked dryly. "You were using your charm aura to manipulate that shopkeeper’s inventory count while pretending his scale was the only thing rigged. If you think you can pull a con on me by playing the innocent maiden, you’re out of luck."
The woman froze. Her seductive expression faltered for a fraction of a second, her wide dark eyes blinking in genuine astonishment before she slowly let go of my wrist.
PFT... AHAHAHAHA!
A loud, melodic burst of laughter erupted from her lips as she threw her head back, her shoulders shaking with clear delight. Even her laugh was ridiculously beautiful, echoing through the narrow alley like golden chimes, though my instincts continued to hum with a quiet, persistent warning.
"Ahahaha! Oh, that’s brilliant!" she gasped, wiping a tear of amusement from the corner of her eye as she caught her breath. She looked at me with newfound interest, a bright, captivating smile spreading across her face. "You’re remarkably perceptive, aren’t you? Most men standing where you are would have already offered me their entire wallets just for a smile."
She took a half-step closer, her sweet lotus-flower scent brushing past my nose. "Still... you did get that greedy merchant off my back, and I always repay my favors. If it’s not too much of a bother, allow me to buy you a meal to express my thanks."
"I’ll pass," I answered immediately, waving my hand casually. "I just ate five massive meat skewers and three desserts from the night market. I couldn’t eat another bite if I tried."
The woman didn’t back down. Instead, she crossed her arms beneath her lush bust, pushing her cleavage up even further as she pouted cutely. "Nonsense! I refuse to owe a favor to a handsome stranger! There must be something I can do for you!"
I looked at her persistent, sparkling expression and let out a soft, helpless sigh.
"Well," I said, leaning back against the stone wall of the alley. "I’m completely new to Uruk, and you clearly seem to know your way around. If you really want to thank me, you can give me a guided tour of the city."
Hearing my suggestion, the woman let out a low, amused chuckle, her dark eyes flashing with supreme confidence. "A tour guide? Honey, you couldn’t have asked for a better person! I know every inch of this city better than anyone alive!"
She stepped forward, extending her slender, manicured hand toward me with a brilliant, dazzling smile. "You can call me ’Beautiful’ if you like... or just ’Ish.’ That’s my nickname."
I reached out and grasped her hand, shaking it politely. The moment my palm touched hers, a strange, electric shiver ran up my spine, giving me the distinct sensation that I was shaking hands with a dangerous, captivating devil.
’Ish, huh?’ I thought, keeping my face completely calm. ’Well... let’s see where this goes.’
"I’m Seth," I introduced myself warmly. "Lead the way, Ish."
For the next two hours, Ish proved that her boast wasn’t an exaggeration in the slightest.
She took complete charge of our little outing, dragging me through a whirlwind tour of Uruk that felt less like a standard walkthrough and more like an impromptu, high-energy date. She knew the city with an absurd level of intimacy, navigating through hidden shortcuts, spatial doorways, and ancient alleys that no ordinary tourist would ever find.
Our first stop was a hidden, elevated sky-bridge carved directly into the outer framework of a secondary ziggurat, far above the main traffic avenues.
As we walked along the narrow stone ledge, a sudden, high-altitude gust of wind swept across the balcony. The sharp breeze whipped Ish’s thin crimson silk robes wildly around her body. Instead of pulling her clothes tight or acting embarrassed, she simply stood at the edge of the railing, tossing her dark hair back and striking a dramatic pose that let the wind press the sheer fabric flush against her curves.
