Chapter 196 - 147: Meeting Up
They were also looking toward the wooden wall. Clearly, they had the same idea he did: to seize this opportunity and get out.
Amidst the flickering firelight in the distance, Fang Yue spotted two acquaintances. One was craning his neck and looking about, while the other moved with extreme caution. They were none other than Wang Mangzi and Xiong Da.
’Who would’ve thought those two would end up together?’
Fang Yue thought for a moment, then quietly sidled up to them.
~~~~~~
In a dim corner, under the cover of night.
Fang Yue, Xiong Da, and Wang Mangzi lay hidden.
Fang Yue had just come over and revealed his identity, so the three naturally joined forces. They formed a temporary alliance with a tacit understanding. Of course, whether they would immediately betray each other when faced with a crisis they couldn’t handle was another question entirely.
For now, however, they shared a common interest, which was reason enough to team up.
"Son of a bitch! These bastards actually built a whole stronghold here. Are the County Guard Army in Sanshui County completely useless? How could they not have found this? Why aren’t they rushing over to wipe these scoundrels out!"
Wang Mangzi cursed and grumbled to Fang Yue and Xiong Da.
Of course, Fang Yue and Xiong Da also nodded in agreement.
The stronghold itself was nothing; they could break through it anytime they pleased.
But who knew how many Qi Sensing Martial Masters were inside? If there was only one, it would be manageable. They could play for time and find a chance to escape.
But if there was another one, plus seven or eight Martial Artists at the Marrow Transformation stage, how could the three of them possibly fight that?
Without knowing the true situation, none of them dared to show their faces.
The blockade was on a key route into and out of the Boundary Mountain, which was also the main road to Sanshui County. Because of this, they refused to believe that the Guard Army stationed in Sanshui County was unaware of the situation.
And yet, there was no sign of them coming to deal with the bandits.
In reality, though, Wang Mangzi knew that if the Guard Army actually tried to attack the bandits, they’d have to be idiots.
It was obvious that the Guard Army from a single County Government Office was no match for these bandits.
It would take the combined forces of at least five or six County Guard Armies to even stand a chance.
But, given their current predicament, it was only natural for Wang Mangzi to vent his frustration.
"When it comes down to it, only you, Wang, have actually fought one of their Qi Sensing Martial Masters. What are they like? How strong are they?" Xiong Da asked.
’We’ll probably run into one of their Qi Sensing Martial Masters sooner or later,’ he thought. ’The more we know, the better our chances, whether we end up fighting or fleeing.’
"Damn it, don’t even get me started. That Martial Master might not be on par with an officially registered one, but he was still incredibly strong. He could’ve killed me in thirty moves, tops. My arm still aches from it."
Wang Mangzi spat, his voice laced with hatred.
But as he spoke of the Martial Master who had pursued him, something seemed to occur to him, and his expression grew even fouler. "Hmph! If I ever become a Qi Sensing Martial Master and I run into that bastard again, I swear I’ll tear him limb from limb!"
Xiong Da naturally nodded in understanding.
’He’s lucky to have escaped with his life. It’s only natural he’d want revenge after almost being killed.’
"Spoken with true ambition, Wang!"
Xiong Da’s expression grew solemn with respect as he offered Wang Mangzi some words of admiration.
Fang Yue, however, read between the lines. ’This guy Wang Mangzi isn’t just angry about the fight,’ he thought. ’He must be furious because they stripped him of everything he had.’
"Oh, by the way," Xiong Da said, turning to Fang Yue, "I see you’ve already bagged something, Fang. Who was the unlucky bastard?"
After all, anyone preparing to leave this early must have already gotten what they came for.
They wouldn’t be leaving empty-handed.
But seeing that someone weaker than either of them had also managed to claim a head, Xiong Da couldn’t help but be curious.
"Heh heh, just a minor leader," Fang Yue said with a noncommittal laugh. "Pure luck, that’s all. Just pure luck."
Fang Yue was being deliberately vague; he couldn’t let them know that he had actually killed the Fifth Master of Tenglong Stronghold.
After all, if the truth got out, setting aside all other issues, Wang Mangzi alone would probably lose his mind.
The man had been stripped clean by that very bandit, and his losses had been substantial!
