Chapter 44: I Can’t Control It, Hurry and Help Me
Seventh Training Base, medium-sized training room.
Shen Tang had just announced that the day’s training would be "Basic Cognition and Guidance of the Spiritual Body" when a polite knock sounded at the training room door, which then swung open.
The person who walked in left all the trainees stunned.
It was Lin Yueyao.
She wore the moon-white uniform of an Advanced guide, her posture elegant and her smile gentle and proper. Her appearance immediately captured the attention of everyone present.
"It’s the S-Class Guide, Miss Lin Yueyao."
"What is she doing here?"
"Oh my god, to think I’d get to see her this close..."
Low gasps rippled through the room.
To these trainees, who were mostly E-level, D-level, or even just reservists, an S-Class Guide was practically a goddess from the heavens.
Shen Tang was also surprised.
She had previously requested for an Advanced guide to come and share their experience, but almost everyone on the list had refused.
Advanced guides had heavy workloads and were generally uninterested in "wasting time" teaching low-Level trainees.
Later, Director Cui said he would figure something out, but Shen Tang never expected him to invite Lin Yueyao.
"Miss Yue Yao," she said, stepping forward to greet her. "I didn’t expect you to come in person."
Lin Yueyao walked to the front of the stage, her smile gentle. "Teacher Shen, you’re too kind. I’m also very happy to have this chance to interact with everyone."
Her gaze swept over the audience, landing on Yun Sheng in the corner.
"Actually, I have a selfish reason for being here. My younger sister, Yun Sheng, just recently returned home and joined the reserves. We haven’t had much time to spend together, so I thought I’d take this opportunity to interact with her more, fulfill my duties as her older sister, and... improve our relationship."
Her words were earnest, and her posture was exceedingly humble.
Whispers immediately broke out below the stage.
"Younger sister? Yun Sheng is Miss Lin’s sister?"
"I heard the Lin Family acknowledged a long-lost daughter... Don’t tell me she’s an illegitimate child?"
"She must be. Otherwise, why would there be all these rumors without any official response from the Lin Family? They’re not making a statement because she’s an illegitimate daughter who can’t be brought into the light."
"Miss Yue Yao is so kind and magnanimous, to be so concerned about an illegitimate child."
"Yun Sheng is so lucky..."
Probing, curious, and even faintly disdainful gazes once again focused on Yun Sheng.
The smile on Shen Tang’s face stiffened slightly.
She keenly sensed the subtle repercussions Lin Yueyao’s words might cause, but given the other woman’s status, it wasn’t her place to say more.
"You’re very thoughtful, Miss Yue Yao. Shall we begin, then?"
Lin Yueyao smiled and nodded, her gaze drifting toward Yun Sheng once more.
Yun Sheng stood her ground, meeting that "gentle" gaze without any expression, but the fingers of the hand at her side curled slightly.
’Here it comes.’
’This whole "deep sisterly bond" act—seemingly full of care, but actually riddled with traps.’
’Even though I changed the original owner’s path and joined the Tower, I still can’t avoid this?’
"Miss Yue Yao will now demonstrate how to establish a clearer, more stable link with your own spiritual body and execute some basic guidance commands. This will be crucial for all of you in nurturing your spiritual bodies in the future."
Shen Tang was already introducing what Lin Yueyao would be demonstrating next.
Lin Yueyao walked to the center of the demonstration area, closed her eyes, and focused her mind.
A few seconds later, a soft, silvery-white light coalesced behind her, transforming into an elegant, snow-white avian spiritual body.
A faint radiance enveloped it, as if it were formed from condensed moonlight, and its appearance drew a series of low gasps.
"It’s a Moonlight Kite!"
"So beautiful! It feels so powerful!"
"As expected of an S-Class..."
With a mere thought from Lin Yueyao, the Moonlight Kite gracefully took flight and, in perfect sync with her, completed a series of basic guidance commands: retrieving an object, releasing a soothing halo, and simulating a defense.
The entire process was as smooth as flowing water, the control exquisite.
The trainees watched, dazzled and filled with longing.
"That was amazing!"
"Is this the power of an S-Class?"
Shen Tang nodded in satisfaction. "Thank you for the demonstration, Miss Yue Yao. Next, would any student like to try sensing and communicating with their own spiritual body or spiritual projection?"
A few trainees whose spiritual bodies had already taken initial form raised their hands and stepped forward to try.
However, the ideal was beautiful, but the reality was harsh.
The first trainee’s spiritual body was a slightly ethereal gray sparrow. No matter how he concentrated, the sparrow just stood dumbly on his shoulder, completely unresponsive to his commands.
The second’s spiritual body was a blurry mass of light. When he tried to communicate, the light trembled erratically and almost dissipated completely.
The third, the fourth... several people tried one after another, but the best result was merely getting a spiritual body to twitch slightly.
A sense of frustration began to spread through the training room.
Only then did everyone truly realize how difficult the seemingly simple acts of "communication" and "guidance" were in practice.
Their gazes toward Lin Yueyao now held a few more degrees of reverence.
Shen Tang offered timely encouragement, "Don’t be discouraged, everyone. You’re all just starting out. The important thing is to get a feel for it and establish a preliminary connection."
Just then, Zhao Qian, who was standing at the front of the crowd, glanced around and suddenly spoke up.
"Teacher Shen, Yun Sheng scored very high on the last few tests! Why not let her give it a try? Maybe with an outstanding older sister like Miss Lin to guide her, she can give us a surprise!"
As soon as she said this, many people turned to look at Yun Sheng again.
Everyone understood Zhao Qian’s intentions.
Last time, Yun Sheng had beaten her in the test, causing her to lose Fifty Thousand Star Coins, and she’d been bitter about it ever since.
Making Yun Sheng demonstrate now was just a way to see her make a fool of herself!
Who didn’t know that Yun Sheng couldn’t even manifest a spiritual body externally, and that her spiritual power was pitifully weak?
What was she supposed to communicate with? The air?
But to everyone’s surprise, Lin Yueyao looked at Yun Sheng and said gently, "Yun Sheng, would you like to try? I’m right here. I can help you if any problems come up."
Shen Tang frowned. She felt that Zhao Qian’s suggestion was meant to stir up trouble, but since Lin Yueyao had already spoken, she couldn’t just dismiss her.
"Trainee Yun Sheng, are you willing to try? Just experiencing the process is enough."
Just when everyone thought Yun Sheng would find an excuse to get out of it.
"Alright."
She responded calmly, then walked to the center of the demonstration area and slowly closed her eyes.
All sorts of gazes fell upon her: curious, scrutinizing, and those waiting for a good show...
Zhao Qian, in particular, could barely conceal the glee on her face.
Yun Sheng took a deep breath and let her consciousness sink into her spiritual landscape.
She had no real intention of communicating with her own spiritual power; after all, her spiritual landscape was currently filled with Bai Ye’s power.
Using it would expose her.
Her target was the small dog at her feet.
She began to carefully mobilize her own weak spiritual power, and with extreme subtlety, she projected a thread of her will toward the shadow at her feet.
The small dog’s spectral-blue eyes flickered for a moment, as if it had received some sort of vague command.
Then, extremely faint, intermittent specks of pale silver light began to appear around Yun Sheng, attempting to coalesce.
The specks of light were incredibly dim, flickering in and out of existence. It looked like a tremendous struggle, perfectly matching everyone’s perception of her as "weak and incomplete."
Zhao Qian almost burst out laughing.
However, just as the specks of light managed to gather into a blurry mass, something unexpected happened!
The mass of light suddenly began to tremble violently, as if a rampaging energy was colliding within it, letting out unstable, soft CRACKLES.
"Ah!"
Yun Sheng let out a soft cry, taking half a step back with a panicked expression. Her gaze shot toward Lin Yueyao opposite her, pleading for help, her voice filled with urgency and helplessness.
"Sister! I... I can’t control it! I think it’s about to... Quick, help me!"
