Every Sentinel I Dreamed of Came Looking for Me

Chapter 24: Fought Over by Two Top Sentinels (2)

"Si Jin, let her go. She’s a reserve member of the Tower and protected by its rules. You can’t just take her. You’re not taking her away today."

The frost in Bai Ye’s eyes instantly sharpened into piercingly cold blades.

Far from backing down, the condensed Spiritual Force Field around him suddenly swelled, emitting a pressure as heavy as a mountain.

The two were at a standoff, their clashing wills plunging the atmosphere to a freezing point. A battle seemed imminent.

Just then, the sound of footsteps and ripples of energy came from the distance.

More than one person was rapidly approaching, and among them were the auras of S-Class Sentinels.

Si Jin’s deep blue eyes narrowed, the corners of his mouth curling into a cruel arc.

"Hear that, Bai Ye? Your reinforcements are here. But... you think a few S-Class whelps can stop me?

If you gave it your all, you might stand a chance. But them... If you insist on forcing my hand here, I don’t mind letting the Tower lose another batch of elites."

Bai Ye’s expression darkened. "Si Jin! They were once your comrades-in-arms, your juniors! You were once their guardian, the War God!"

"War God?"

Si Jin looked as though he’d heard the joke of the century. The suppressed, violent aura and destructive killing intent around him erupted.

"Back in the D-7 Contamination Zone, I pushed my spiritual landscape far beyond its limits to eliminate a contaminant that nearly destroyed half the galaxy. I hadn’t yet fallen and become a Dark Sentinel. I was still sane. But do you know what the Tower did?

They cornered me, hunted me, treated me like the most dangerous contaminant... And those comrades, those juniors you mentioned? They may have been following the Tower’s orders, but that doesn’t mean my heart didn’t grow cold.

I knew that in my position, it would come to this sooner or later... I accepted that outcome. But I never expected that while I was still sane, they wouldn’t even grant me a shred of dignity.

Hah. Bai Ye, you’re not far behind. When you’re walking the same path I did, I’m eager to see what choice you’ll make!"

The words struck Bai Ye’s heart like a sledgehammer.

Si Jin’s fate was an indelible scar on the Tower’s history and a sword of Damocles hanging over every top-tier Sentinel.

He couldn’t refute it, because what Si Jin said... was the bloody truth.

Bai Ye fell silent, a fierce struggle churning in the depths of his silver-gray eyes.

Meanwhile, Yun Sheng was caught in the middle of this terrifying standoff. She could feel the dreadful auras from both sides threatening to crush her very soul, and she barely dared to breathe.

But the two miniature fluffballs at her feet seemed completely oblivious to the cataclysmic killing intent passing between their masters.

The White Tiger continued to rub its large head against her leg, purring endlessly.

The little wolf, meanwhile, anxiously pawed at her other hand, its wide eyes screaming with an expectant ’Pet me!’

Yun Sheng: "..."

She was so frustrated she could cry, wanting nothing more than to roar at the two adorable creatures.

’Your masters are about to fight to the death! A real bloodbath! Can’t you two read the room?!’

The air was as still as a frozen lake, with only the sound of approaching footsteps to remind them that time was running out.

Si Jin watched Bai Ye, awaiting his decision.

To fight, or to back down.

Bai Ye’s expression was grim. After a moment of dead silence, he made his decision.

"Si Jin, you can take her."

Yun Sheng’s head snapped up, her eyes wide with astonishment.

Si Jin raised an eyebrow, also looking somewhat surprised.

Bai Ye paid their reactions no mind and continued, "But remember, she is officially registered with the Tower. If you dare harm her, the Tower will initiate its highest-level pursuit protocol. And when that happens, you won’t just be facing me."

Si Jin snorted at his words and pulled Yun Sheng tighter against him.

"We’re leaving."

Yun Sheng wanted to struggle, but didn’t dare.

’I don’t want to go with Si Jin at all! I just want to go home by myself!’

Just as Si Jin turned to leave with Yun Sheng in his arms, the White Tiger at her feet seemed to finally realize she was being taken away.

It immediately nudged her hand with its big, fluffy head, letting out a pitiful whimper and hooking its claws on the hem of her clothes.

Seeing this, the little wolf immediately blocked the White Tiger’s path, baring its teeth and growling as if to say, ’She’s ours! Don’t you dare!’

The White Tiger, not to be outdone, lowered its body and let out a warning growl.

The two little fluffballs were about to clash again over the "right to claim Yun Sheng."

Bai Ye: "..."

A vein throbbed on his temple. With a flicker of thought, he forcibly recalled his spiritual body.

A moment later, Si Jin wasted no more time.

The dark flames around him receded, and his figure blurred into a black afterimage. After a few ghostly leaps, he and Yun Sheng vanished completely into the darkness at the end of the walkway.

Bai Ye watched them disappear, a foreign feeling—a mix of helplessness and frustration—creeping into his heart.

"General!" Deputy Luo finally arrived with his men, only to find Bai Ye radiating a frighteningly oppressive aura. "What... where is Miss Yun Sheng?"

"Si Jin took her. Immediately activate top-level clearance. Track Si Jin’s movements and lock down his general direction. And the surveillance footage? I want to review it myself."

He had to find out whether the Holy Light White Tiger’s power he’d sensed earlier had truly come from Yun Sheng.

"Yes, sir!" Deputy Luo immediately acknowledged the order.

Bai Ye cast one last look at the spot where Si Jin and Yun Sheng had vanished, then turned and strode away.

Meanwhile, Yun Sheng was whisked away by Si Jin at an incredible speed.

The intense wind pressure and sudden displacement threw her senses into chaos.

By the time she managed to shake off her dizziness, she found herself in a warehouse thick with the smell of dust and rust.

She staggered, steadying herself against a cold nearby wall to keep from falling.

Si Jin stood just a few steps away, watching her silently.

"Yun Sheng. Now it’s just the two of us."

He took a step forward, his tall frame casting a shadow that nearly swallowed her whole.

Yun Sheng instinctively backed away until her spine hit the cold wall.

"Don’t you think you should explain... how an ordinary person who failed to awaken and has no spiritual body can soothe my spiritual landscape? And... how you can also use that guy Bai Ye’s power?"

’He knows!’

’Wasn’t he unconscious? Don’t tell me... he was aware the whole time?’

An intense sense of danger made Yun Sheng’s heart pound wildly.

Her mind raced as she tried to figure out how to respond.

"Mr. Si Jin, I don’t understand what you’re talking about. I was just passing by when I saw you collapsed... It was terrifying. As for General Bai’s power, how could I possibly..."

"Yun Sheng," Si Jin interrupted. "You can save the story you used to fool Bai Ye. Don’t repeat it for my benefit. It wasn’t just a moment ago. That time at the research institute... that was you too, wasn’t it?"

Si Jin raised his other hand. His fingertips gently brushed a stray strand of hair from her ear. The gesture seemed soft, but it carried an inescapable air of control.

"Yun Sheng, think carefully before you answer. I’m not Bai Ye. I don’t have his ridiculous moral codes or his adherence to the rules. If you’re not honest with me... there’s nothing I won’t do."
