Every Sentinel I Dreamed of Came Looking for Me

Chapter 29: Get Lost! Disappear From My Sight Immediately

Lin Hao was thoroughly enraged by Yun Sheng’s dismissive attitude. A wicked fire flared up in his chest.

He lurched a step forward, his voice practically a low growl.

"Yun Sheng! What is this attitude? I’m talking to you!"

Yun Sheng didn’t even retreat half a step at his advance. She merely lifted her chin slightly, a flash of almost pitying mockery in her eyes.

"I heard what you said. So, are you blocking my way just to repeat this unoriginal nonsense, to show off your impoverished vocabulary and... your misplaced sense of superiority?"

Lin Hao froze, seemingly not expecting Yun Sheng to retaliate like this. A flicker of astonishment crossed his face.

It was immediately replaced by an even greater fury. "You..."

"You what?" Yun Sheng cut him off. "Lin Hao, you seem to have misunderstood something. Your anger, your insults—they’re meaningless to me. Because whether you approve of me or not doesn’t affect a single thing. I can stand here, I can go to the Tower, not because of your charity or anyone else’s, but because of my own merit. As for you..."

She paused, her gaze sweeping over his face, which was flushed red with anger.

"As for you, besides throwing a fit of impotent rage, what else do you have? Your precious Sentinel status and family background? The halo of having Lin Yueyao as a sister? Or... that ’glorious achievement’ of yours from the other day at the bar, when you lost control over a minor squabble, injured someone, and had to be bailed out by your family’s money and brought back only after Lin Yueyao herself intervened to smooth things over?"

The color drained from Lin Hao’s face, going from red to white, then darkening to a furious, purplish red.

"You... Who the hell do you think you are! You’re not worthy of even mentioning that!"

He was like a cat whose tail had been stepped on, trembling with rage. He pointed a finger at Yun Sheng, the tip of it shaking.

"If it weren’t for you, I never would have..."

"Wouldn’t have what? Wouldn’t have gone to a bar to cause trouble? Or wouldn’t have lost your temper over a minor argument and attacked a guide?

Lin Hao, is this how you solve problems? By blaming others for your own mistakes? No wonder you need someone else to clean up your messes."

Yun Sheng’s words were like an icy whip, stripping away Lin Hao’s last shred of dignity.

He opened his mouth but found he couldn’t refute her.

Everything she said was the truth—a truth he was most unwilling to face.

"If this is your way of upholding the Lin Family’s reputation—causing trouble, relying on your family to fix it, and then taking your anger out on uninvolved people—then I suggest you first learn to control yourself."

Yun Sheng’s gaze calmly moved away from his face, which was twisted with anger. Her tone returned to one of detached indifference.

"Now, may I pass?"

Lin Hao’s chest heaved violently. He glared at Yun Sheng with a ferocious expression, but under her cold, piercing gaze, he felt a wave of pathetic guilt and powerlessness.

He realized he couldn’t overwhelm this piece of trash he looked down on, neither with words nor with presence.

Finally, he could only take a large step to the side, forcing a low snarl through his gritted teeth—a sound laced with resentment and violence.

"...Get lost! Get out of my sight right now!"

Yun Sheng said no more. She pulled the door open and walked out without looking back.

...

「Three days later. Seventh Training Base, under the jurisdiction of the Tower.」

Following the instructions on the official notice from the Tower, Yun Sheng arrived on time at the designated assembly area for the "Preparatory Guide Assistance Program."

It was an auxiliary preparation room attached to a medium-sized training hall.

The air was filled with the scent of disinfectant, mixed with faint but chaotic spiritual fluctuations emanating from the dozen or so trainees already waiting in the room.

The trainees were between eighteen and twenty-five years old. Most were wearing comfortable training clothes and were gathered in small groups, talking in low voices.

Some faces showed eager excitement, some couldn’t hide the nervousness of being in a new place, and others seemed nonchalant, as if they were just going through the motions.

Yun Sheng’s arrival didn’t attract much attention.

Before long, a young woman in the base’s standard uniform walked in.

Her expression was stern and her steps were crisp. She clapped her hands to quiet the room.

"Good morning, preparatory trainees. I am your primary instructor for this training, Shen Tang. Before we officially begin the training sessions, I need to re-verify everyone’s basic information.

Now, please state your name in order and try to project the prototype of your spiritual body. You only need to maintain a minimal level of materialization for at least three seconds."

The trainees began to come forward one by one to demonstrate.

"Li Yue. Spiritual body prototype: a skylark."

A phantom of a small bird with sparse feathers but lively eyes appeared on the round-faced girl’s shoulder and flapped its wings twice.

"Wang Hao. Spiritual body prototype: a shifting mist of light."

By the tall boy’s feet, a pale blue mist of light twisted and condensed into a blurry sphere before slowly dissipating.

"Liu Ya. Spiritual body prototype: a touch-me-not."

A timid-looking girl opened her palm, where the transparent phantom of a small plant with slightly curled leaves swayed gently.

Everyone could manifest at least something, no matter how weak or unstable the prototype was.

This served as basic proof of their aptitude, and it also subtly established an initial pecking order of assessment and impression among the trainees.

When it was Yun Sheng’s turn, all eyes focused on her.

"Yun Sheng," she stated her name, her voice steady.

Then, as instructed, she focused her mind, trying to mobilize the guide hormone that was so faint it was almost dormant.

After a few seconds, Yun Sheng looked up, meeting Shen Tang’s scrutinizing gaze without avoiding the probing looks from those around her, and stated calmly,

"I cannot project a spiritual body prototype."

A low uproar immediately spread through the room.

"She’s the one the Lin Family just brought back from the outside?"

"I heard her test results were terrible, not even D-level. And she has no spiritual body at all."

"With that kind of aptitude... how in the world did she pass the screening and get in?"

"She’s from the Lin Family, after all... They must have their ways." This was said with a certain knowing implication.

"She’s nothing like Miss Yue Yao..."

The trainees’ discussions weren’t deliberately hushed, drilling clearly into everyone’s ears.

Yun Sheng stood her ground, her expression unchanging, as if their words had nothing to do with her.

Shen Tang was also visibly taken aback for a moment. Her eyes scanned the electronic file quickly before her composure returned.

"Alright, Trainee Yun Sheng, your situation has been noted. Please return to the line for now."

She turned to all the trainees and said clearly, "Next, we will proceed with the first adaptation test. The main goal is to see if you can keep up with and smoothly connect to the training ground’s spiritual frequency. Everyone, do your best and be in your top form."

Yun Sheng silently walked back into the line and stood still.

Just then, a very low mutter came from behind her.

"She can’t even project a spiritual body. It’s not even certain she has one... How is she supposed to keep up? Keeping her around will just drag everyone down. Whoever gets grouped with her is gonna have bad luck..."

Yun Sheng’s expression didn’t change, but inside, the tension coiled even tighter.

She knew that from this moment on, she had been tacitly labeled as the most "special" one here—and the one with the bleakest prospects.

’Nepotism hire’ and ’trash.’ The labels were now stuck to her firmly.
