Every Sentinel I Dreamed of Came Looking for Me

Chapter 62: Nowhere to Vent the Evil Fire

"Definitely! Miss Yue Yao is the true jewel of the Lin Family, an S-Class guide with a limitless future. It was a wise move for Uncle Lin to give the shares to Miss Yue Yao! Some people... they’re just relatives by blood, but in reality..."

The young Sentinel beside Zhao Qian sneered, giving Yun Sheng a pointed look before shaking his head, his face full of contempt.

"Qianqian, don’t be like that. Maybe she just heard a new mall opened here and came to experience the atmosphere of high society? After all, in the kind of place she’s from, you don’t get to see things this nice."

"Exactly. It’s not a crime to look. But don’t touch the clothes and get them dirty. Even if you spent all of your Fifty Thousand Star Coins, you probably couldn’t afford a single thing here!"

The group surrounded Yun Sheng, their words a barrage of mockery.

Curious or gossipy stares gradually gathered from the surrounding crowd, as if Yun Sheng were an ugly duckling that had stumbled into a flock of swans, there for their amusement.

Seeing Yun Sheng’s still-calm face, Zhao Qian assumed she was struck speechless by the insults, and a swell of smug satisfaction grew within her.

"Yun Sheng, I suggest you learn your place. Miss Yue Yao is kind and magnanimous, so she doesn’t bother with you, but there isn’t a single person in the Lin Family who doesn’t see you as a burden. The matter with the shares is the best proof of that!

If I were you, I’d keep my head down, take that little bit of money, and buy a few decent, cheap outfits. Stop coming out here and embarrassing yourself. You’ll only tarnish the Lin Family’s name, and Miss Yue Yao’s by extension!"

Yun Sheng listened quietly, her face showing none of the humiliation or anger Zhao Qian had been hoping for.

Her eyes were as clear as a deep pool, silently absorbing all the malice directed at her without a single ripple of emotion.

"Are you finished?"

Zhao Qian choked on her own words, stunned by Yun Sheng’s overly calm reaction. The rest of her prepared taunts were stuck in her throat.

Without waiting for a reply, Yun Sheng continued in that same level tone, "Who Mr. Lin gives his shares to is his business. It has nothing to do with me, and it certainly isn’t your place to announce or explain it on his behalf, is it?

As for the Fifty Thousand Star Coins, you lost that to me in a bet. It wasn’t charity. If you don’t even understand the basic principle of honoring a wager, then I suggest you avoid making bets with people in the future. You might lose more than just money next time."

Zhao Qian’s face turned livid. She pointed a finger at Yun Sheng, her voice growing shrill with rage.

"Yun Sheng, cut the sharp-tongued act! You’re nothing but a good-for-nothing, a pathetic wretch! The ’true’ daughter? Does anyone in the Lin Family even care about you?"

"And what does that have to do with you? Zhao Qian, you don’t need to come to me to feel important."

Zhao Qian trembled with fury, pointing at Yun Sheng. "You...!"

The young Sentinel by her side, who had long held a secret crush on her, saw the object of his affection being humiliated and felt a rush of anger go straight to his head.

He reached out to shove Yun Sheng, spewing filth from his mouth.

"Bitch, how dare you talk to Qianqian like that? Who the hell do you think you ar—"

The moment his hand shot out, Yun Sheng’s gaze narrowed.

No one saw her move. Not even a single, discernible ripple of spiritual power emanated from her.

But in that split second, a thin needle of spiritual power, finer than a strand of hair, shot out at an imperceptible speed, guided by her will.

Aimed directly at the Sentinel’s spiritual landscape!

"Aargh!"

A short, piercing scream erupted from the Sentinel’s mouth.

His outstretched hand froze in midair. His entire body looked as if it had been struck by an invisible sledgehammer. The color instantly drained from his face, replaced by an expression of twisted, extreme agony.

His body shook violently, out of his control, before he collapsed to the ground with a loud THUD, rendered completely immobile.

This sudden turn of events stunned everyone!

The smirks and mockery on the faces of Zhao Qian and her companions instantly froze, replaced by shock and terror.

"What happened?"

"Ah- Ah Kai, what’s wrong with him?"

"Could it be... could it be that he hasn’t received a guide’s soothing for too long and his spiritual power suddenly went berserk?"

"Quick, contact the Tower for emergency medical!"

The gawking onlookers were also startled, backing away as a buzz of discussion erupted.

Zhao Qian knelt down in a panic, her mind a complete mess. She just assumed her companion had a problem with his own spiritual power—perhaps a flare-up of an old injury, or a disorder caused by a recent lack of soothing.

It never even occurred to her to suspect Yun Sheng.

In her deep-seated conviction, Yun Sheng was a "good-for-nothing" who didn’t even have a spiritual body and whose spiritual power was so weak it was negligible. She naturally wouldn’t have the ability to take down a Sentinel in an instant!

Her companion’s pained groans and the suspicious stares of the crowd made Zhao Qian feel humiliated and furious.

With nowhere to vent her anger, she naturally redirected it toward Yun Sheng.

She snapped her head up, her gaze like a poisoned dagger. "Yun Sheng, this is all your fault! You’re a jinx! If anything happens to Ah Kai, I’m not done with you! You..."

"Miss Zhao!"

Just then, Su Wan finished her call and walked back quickly.

She immediately stepped in front of Yun Sheng, shielding her.

Her sharp, cold gaze swept over Zhao Qian and her chaotic group. "You’re all gathered here. Is there something you need to say to my daughter? And this gentleman... what’s happened to him?"

"M-Mrs. Lin..." Zhao Qian hadn’t expected Su Wan to be there, and it was obvious she was protecting Yun Sheng. Frightened and startled, she stammered, "N-nothing... We just happened to run into each other... H-he suddenly became like this, maybe his spiritual power is unstable..."

"Is that so?"

Su Wan glanced at the man on the floor, then at the expressionless Yun Sheng. Though she had her own doubts, she was mostly filled with displeasure toward Zhao Qian and her friends.

"From what I saw just now, your posture didn’t look like a simple greeting. Miss Zhao, Shengsheng is a daughter of the Lin Family. She is not someone that just anyone can gossip about or treat with disrespect.

I hope you, and your friends, remember that. Now, please take this gentleman and leave immediately. Don’t disturb the other shoppers here."

Su Wan’s words were quite blunt, making her stance perfectly clear.

Zhao Qian and her friends’ faces flushed red and then went pale. Under Su Wan’s stare and the strange looks from the crowd, they couldn’t care about saving face any longer. They scrambled to help their companion up and fled in a panic.

As soon as they left, Su Wan immediately turned to Yun Sheng, her eyes filled with obvious heartache and regret.

"Shengsheng, I’m so sorry, I was on the phone for too long. Are you okay? Did they... did they bully you?"

"No, ma’am," Yun Sheng said, shaking her head gently. "I’m fine. Let’s continue looking at clothes."

Su Wan looked at Yun Sheng’s indifferent expression, but her heart only grew heavier.

’This child,’ she thought. ’She’s always like this, never saying a word when she’s been wronged, as if nothing can stir her emotions.’

The more Yun Sheng acted this way, the more indebted Su Wan felt.

"Shengsheng, I... I don’t think I can continue shopping with you. Something urgent has come up... at the company. I need to go back and handle it immediately."

"Is it because Mr. Lin transferred five percent of the group’s shares to Lin Yueyao?"

Su Wan’s eyes widened in astonishment. She blurted out, "How did you know?!"

A board member she was close with had just told her about it on the phone. Lin Zhenye had even kept it from her, so how could Yun Sheng...

"Zhao Qian mentioned it earlier."

Su Wan’s heart sank. Even she hadn’t known about this, yet outsiders did.

’For Lin Zhenye to do this... it’s just too much!’

Su Wan’s eyes began to sting. She took a step forward and gripped Yun Sheng’s hand tightly.

"Shengsheng, will you... will you come to the company with me? For this, we absolutely owe you an explanation!"
