Chapter 46: Is She Supposed to Pounce on Him Now?
Stepping out of the training room and away from the jumble of gazes, Yun Sheng felt her tense nerves relax slightly.
A familiar, furry sensation brushed lightly against her ankle.
She lowered her head slightly. The puppy’s deep blue eyes looked up, meeting her gaze for a brief moment.
’Nice work.’
Yun Sheng moved her lips, silently mouthing the words.
The deep blue in the puppy’s eyes seemed to ripple, flashing with a remarkably human, almost cunning glint before it returned to its clueless, innocent look.
"Yun Sheng, are you okay? Does your head still hurt badly? Should I slow down?"
Seeing her keep her head down with an unsteady gait, Li Wen, who was supporting her, couldn’t help but ask worriedly.
Yun Sheng straightened up a little, turned her head, and smiled at Li Wen. "Thank you, I’m fine... Really, it’s not that serious."
Li Wen froze. She looked at Yun Sheng’s slightly red but exceptionally calm eyes and recalled her final words in the training room—words that sounded resigned but were secretly sharp. Suddenly, it all clicked.
Her eyes widened, and she lowered her voice, a hint of disbelief and faint excitement in her tone.
"Holy cow! Yun Sheng, you just now... You weren’t acting, were you?"
Yun Sheng shook her head gently. "I just... It wasn’t as bad as it looked; I wasn’t completely acting. You saw what happened. Lin Yueyao... I thought, at least in front of so many people, she would put on a show and help me out, even if it was just for appearances. I never expected..."
She didn’t finish, but Li Wen instantly understood what she left unsaid.
Li Wen patted Yun Sheng’s arm firmly. "I get it! In a situation like that, if you weren’t smart enough to protect yourself and she ’helped’ you into real trouble, who could you even complain to? But I really didn’t expect Lin Yueyao to be that kind of person... Yun Sheng, you have to be extra careful in the Lin Family from now on."
Yun Sheng lowered her gaze and hummed softly in agreement, saying no more.
She could sense Li Wen’s straightforwardness and kindness, but one could never be too careful. What just happened was a secret she had to take to her grave.
After that, Li Wen helped Yun Sheng to the infirmary inside the Tower.
A Healer gave Yun Sheng a basic examination and confirmed that her spiritual power had suffered a minor shock but no serious damage.
They prescribed some medication to alleviate the headaches and mental fatigue caused by the spiritual power backlash and instructed her to get plenty of rest.
As they left the infirmary, just as Li Wen was saying she would walk Yun Sheng back to her room, someone emerged from around the corner of the hallway and blocked their path.
It was Luo Cheng.
He handed over a sealed medicine box imprinted with the Star Alliance military insignia.
"Miss Yun Sheng, the General asked me to bring this. It’s more effective than the standard medicine from the Tower’s infirmary and is specially formulated to stabilize one’s spiritual landscape and alleviate the aftereffects of a shock."
Yun Sheng froze, accepting the medicine box instinctively.
’Bai Ye had him bring this?’
’Didn’t Si Jin say Bai Ye wasn’t in the Tower today?’
’Then how did he know I just got ’injured’? And how did he get medicine sent over so quickly!’
A chill crept up Yun Sheng’s spine.
’It seems Bai Ye is paying far more attention to me than I imagined.’
’Even when he’s not in the Tower, he probably has me under surveillance.’
’I have to be much more careful from now on!’
Beside her, Li Wen’s expression immediately turned a little peculiar. "Well now, Yun Sheng, the White War God is quite attentive to you. Is he..."
Yun Sheng’s heart skipped a beat, and she quickly cut her off.
"Li Wen, don’t talk nonsense. The White War God sent this medicine for my sister’s sake, obviously. After all, she is his fiancée. After what happened in the training room, he’s probably trying to smooth things over, or... make a gesture."
She stressed the word "fiancée" heavily, deliberately creating distance, her tone filled with the caution of someone trying to avoid trouble.
Hearing this, Li Wen pursed her lips.
"That’s true. With how two-faced Lin Yueyao is, it would be disgusting if the White War God actually came to give you trouble for her sake. But still, Yun Sheng, you should keep your distance from the White War God. Otherwise, I’m afraid Lin Yueyao won’t let you off the hook!"
Luo Cheng stood to the side, his face still a calm poker face, as if he hadn’t heard their conversation at all.
"The item has been delivered. I’ll take my leave now."
With that, he turned sharply and left.
Yun Sheng clutched the medicine box, watching Luo Cheng’s back disappear at the end of the hallway. Her thoughts drifted to Si Jin, whose whereabouts were unknown, and to Lin Yueyao, who had just suffered a major setback and would definitely not let it go...
Wolves at the front, tigers at the back, and prying eyes lurking in the shadows.
’Life is getting more and more ’lively’!’
She took a deep breath and said to Li Wen, "Let’s go back."
"Okay, let’s go."
Li Wen supported her as they walked toward the entrance of the Tower.
And by Yun Sheng’s feet, the little black shadow followed, keeping a steady distance.
...
When she returned to the Lin Family estate, it seemed Su Wan and Lin Zhenye were not home.
Yun Sheng had no appetite. She ate a little something and went back to her room.
She had just sat down on the sofa, not even having a moment to catch her breath, when a figure appeared as silently as a ghost.
It was Si Jin.
’That speed...’
’It seems this guy has been following me the whole time. Otherwise, even if his spiritual body relayed the message, there’s no way he could have gotten here so fast!’
Yun Sheng leaned back into the sofa without getting up. She simply raised her eyes and calmly sized up the uninvited "ally" across from her.
"Chen Hao," she cut right to the chase, her first concern being this potential problem. "Is he dead?"
Si Jin sat down in the single armchair across from her. His posture was casual, yet it carried an invisible pressure.
"Not dead. But you can consider him dead."
He tugged at the corner of his mouth, revealing a smile devoid of warmth.
"Don’t worry, the Chen Family won’t be able to find him anytime soon. And even if they do, they won’t recognize him."
The words were spoken lightly, but Yun Sheng heard the blood and cruelty behind them.
She didn’t press for details, merely nodding.
’She had witnessed Si Jin’s methods before. Dealing with one Chen Hao would surely be no problem for him.’
"So," Yun Sheng leaned forward slightly, her gaze fixed on Si Jin, "when do you plan to fulfill your promise and teach me how to use and improve my spiritual power?"
’This was her most pressing need right now.’
’Today in the training room, although she had used the puppy’s power to make Lin Yueyao suffer a major setback, it was ultimately borrowed strength, and the risk had been considerable.’
’As for the spiritual power she had "stolen" in the dream, that was a secret that must never be revealed—not unless she could completely transform and merge it, making it truly her own.’
Si Jin narrowed his eyes at her. "What’s the hurry? One step at a time."
He leaned back, crossing his long legs with a lazy air of someone in complete control.
"Before I teach you, I need to know what trump card you’re holding. Show me your power."
Yun Sheng’s brow furrowed instinctively.
’Show him my power?’
’The request sounded simple, but it was actually tricky.’
’She couldn’t possibly release Bai Ye’s spiritual power for Si Jin to see.’
’Did he... expect her to pounce on him right now, get her hands all over him, and take full advantage just to soothe his chaotic spiritual landscape and prove her abilities?!’
