"Su Ran..." Liu Jinyu caught up to Su Ran and hugged his arm. "Do you think there are any snakes on this island?"

"Probably not. Don’t worry. Even if there are, I won’t let them bite you. I’ll protect you."

"Such a good boy. Mwah~"

"Su Ran, are those grapes over there?" Just then, Xiao Wanqing spotted a grapevine in the woods and ran over excitedly. But after just a couple of steps, she cried out, slipped, and fell to the ground.

"Wanqing!" Liu Jinyu reacted even faster than Su Ran, rushing over to help her up. "Are you okay?"

"Hiss... I sprained my ankle."

"How could you be so careless? Good thing you didn’t step on a branch. What would you have done if you’d cut your foot?"

Liu Jinyu said, exasperated. But there was no real malice in her tone; the bond between these two best friends was simply that strong.

"Let me take a look. Sit down." Su Ran helped Xiao Wanqing over to a rock and squatted in front of her. He placed her long leg on his own and gently pressed her ankle.

"Ow."

"It’s sprained. I’ll carry you back. We have liniment on the boat; I’ll put some on for you later."

"Okay."

Xiao Wanqing nodded, her eyes darting toward the grapevine out of the corner of her vision.

Su Ran and Liu Jinyu exchanged a smile. They understood instantly.

"I’ll go pick them for you."

"Thanks, Jinyu! Love ya."

"Don’t love me. I hate your guts."

"Blehh~"

Liu Jinyu pulled off Su Ran’s T-shirt and went over to the vine. She picked all the grapes, loading them into the shirt, and they all started walking out of the woods.

As Su Ran carried Xiao Wanqing on his back, Liu Jinyu fed Wanqing a grape.

"It’s so sweet! Are these, like, completely natural, organic grapes? How did they end up on this little island? Su Ran, do you know?"

Xiao Wanqing asked, her arms wrapped around Su Ran’s neck.

Su Ran shrugged, hoisting Xiao Wanqing a little higher on his back. "A seabird probably brought the seeds from another island," he said. "They really are sweet. I should try cultivating them and planting them back at Buchu Garden."

"..."

Both women desperately wanted to correct him. ’It’s called Chuyuan!’ But the words died on their lips, and they tactfully swallowed them back down.

Hmph!

In the end, they each just huffed at Su Ran to show their displeasure. ’It’s all because of this rotten little brother. "Chuyuan" sounds so much nicer!’

「Two days later.」

「Jiangning, Chuyuan.」

A blanket of pure white snow dressed Chuyuan in a coat of silver.

The furnace was roaring, keeping the house toasty and warm.

After their two-day island vacation, Su Ran had brought the four girls back to Chuyuan.

「The Tea Room.」

Agarwood smoldered in an incense burner. At a long Chinese Rosewood table, Liu Jinyu was brewing Gongfu tea, which she pushed over to Qi Shan.

"President Qi, you went to the Miao Village. Did you find out anything about Yiren’s family history?"

"Wang Cangsong claims he doesn’t know. No matter how I asked, he wouldn’t say a single word." Qi Shan looked at a crestfallen Xie Yiren. "Miss Xie, did your grandfather never mention anything at all?"

Xie Yiren shook her head. "No."

The person Qi Shan hated most right now was that stubborn old fool, Wang Cangsong. If it weren’t for him and his obsession with upholding some "Saintess System" and targeting Xie Yiren, Su Ran wouldn’t have had to pull his investment from the infrastructure project. As a result, Qi Shan had also lost the opportunity to make a fortune.

Su Ran patted Xie Yiren’s shoulder. "Don’t worry. I said I’d help you find your family, and I will. It’s getting late. Didn’t you all say you wanted to visit my hometown? Let’s go. Tonight, Aunt Liu from my village is having her family’s reunion dinner. I’ll take you to the village feast. President Qi, you should come along too."

"I appreciate the offer, but you all go ahead." Qi Shan knew Su Ran was just being polite.

The group parted ways at the door. Qi Shan promised he would use all his connections to help Xie Yiren find her family. Su Ran just nodded. "We’re off," he said, starting the Mercedes G-Wagon and driving away.

Qi Shan watched the G-Wagon drive off, filled with admiration for Su Ran. ’The man is surrounded by drop-dead gorgeous women, each more beautiful than the last, and they’re all completely devoted to him. Any man would be envious.’ Qi Shan was no exception.

The four girls were thrilled about visiting Su Ran’s hometown. They had been having a wonderful time recently. Being with Su Ran was pure joy.

The G-Wagon turned from the village road onto a tractor path, parking under a bamboo grove beside a lotus pond.

"Is this courtyard your home?"

Liu Jinyu got out of the car, her eyes wide with surprise as she looked at the rustic, pastoral-style Mushroom House inside the fenced yard. "Wow, it’s beautiful! I love it."

Aina got out, retorting, "Tch. You’re so fake. If some ordinary country guy owned this house, you’d probably turn on your heel and walk away."

Xiao Wanqing and Xie Yiren burst out laughing and gave Aina a thumbs-up. "Brutal. But true."

Liu Jinyu shot back, "Aina, I swear, you little bitch, you just love to argue with me, don’t you? Do you have to contradict every single thing I say?"

Aina replied, "It’s the truth. You’re telling me if he were just some ordinary village boy with no property in the city, just this house, you’d still be with him?"

Liu Jinyu said firmly, "As long as it’s Su Ran, I would."

"Alright, enough chattering. Let’s go, time to see the inside." Su Ran picked up their luggage and led the way. As he pushed open the courtyard gate, he saw Aunt Liu on a nearby ridge shouting at him in a thick local dialect.

"What did she say?"

The four girls couldn’t understand a word.

"Aunt Liu was asking if you’re all my girlfriends."

Su Ran set down the luggage and walked over to help Aunt Liu carry the homemade liquor she’d gotten from the village’s small store. It was for the reunion feast that evening—a pure grain liquor that, to some, tasted even better than Maotai.

"Aunt Liu, they’re my friends. We were traveling together, and they’ve never been to a rural village feast before, so I brought them along to experience it. You don’t mind, do you?"

"Of course I don’t mind! It’s just... they’re all your friends? Not a single one is your girlfriend?"
