Everyone Can Hear My Thoughts, and Now They're Panicking

Chapter 115: Melody Knight, I Have to Apologize to You, Too

The law operates on the principle of innocent until proven guilty. Without evidence, the police wouldn’t have detained Mama Knight.

Someone must have tampered with the evidence for Mama Knight to be arrested despite her vehement denials.

That person couldn’t be Rosalind Quill, who called the police. After all, she genuinely believed Mama Knight was the thief at first.

Rosalind Quill glared. "Who are you calling stupid?"

"You, of course. Your husband is transferring marital assets, yet you’re completely clueless," Jane Lancaster said with a smile.

Jason Miller’s heart skipped a beat. ’How does she know all this?’

Jane Lancaster guessed his thoughts. "You’re wondering how I know all this, aren’t you?"

’Of course, it’s because I never planned on letting any of you off the hook. I made a point of investigating you.’

Her intense gaze forced Jason Miller back a few steps. "Don’t change the subject. Let’s stick to the matter at hand."

Despite his words, he was panicking inside.

"I also know the house at Regalia cost eight million, and that you conspired with the finance department to cook the books, siphoning off almost half the money from the company’s accounts."

Jane Lancaster moved closer, her voice soft. "Your younger son is adorable, isn’t he? If he’s raised properly, he certainly won’t turn out to be a good-for-nothing like your elder son. He won’t need you to throw money at him just to maintain a polished image."

Jason Miller’s voice was strained. "Are you threatening me?"

Jane Lancaster smiled. "I’ll have someone remind him every single day of what his father did. I wonder if he’ll be able to appreciate his father’s... predicament."

"No! You can’t do that!" Jason Miller’s voice rose in pitch.

His younger son was the child of his old age, the apple of his eye!

"Honey, what are you two talking about?" Even someone as slow as Rosalind Quill could tell something was wrong. She latched onto the key point. "A house at Regalia? Honey, you bought a house? Why didn’t I know about it?"

Jason Miller composed himself, his mind racing to find a way out. ’No, I can’t just sit here and wait to be destroyed!’

He made a decision. ’So what if Rosalind throws a fit today? I’ll just divorce her immediately!’

’I’ve never let anyone threaten me. Jane Lancaster is being far too naive. If she dares to threaten me, she’d better be ready for this to blow up in her face!’

"It’s nothing. She’s just threatening me," Jason Miller said with a helpless look on his face.

Rosalind Quill instantly blew up. "You dare threaten my husband in front of all these people? And you still claim you’re not the one who’s been pressuring our company?"

Jane Lancaster wasn’t the least bit surprised. The man was just that ruthless. "Congratulations. Your husband has just thrown you under the bus."

Rosalind Quill shot back, "Don’t you try to drive a wedge between my husband and me!" But even as she said it, her voice lacked conviction.

"Jay." Caleb Lowell couldn’t bear to watch any longer. This farce had gone on long enough.

Jane Lancaster’s tone was flat. "Shut up."

Caleb Lowell froze, unable to process what had just happened. ’Did she just tell me to shut up?’

Just then, Jason Miller’s phone suddenly rang.

A faint smile played on Jane Lancaster’s lips. "Go on, answer it."

’Since you’re accusing me of threatening you, I might as well hit you where it really hurts.’

A sense of foreboding washed over Jason Miller. He quickly stepped aside to answer the call.

"You son of a bitch! Who told you to drag me into your family’s mess?" The person on the other end roared the moment the call connected.

"Let me tell you something. If I’m truly ruined, do you really think you can get away unscathed? We’re all in the same boat here! If I go down, you’re going down with me!"

Jason Miller hung up without a word. He looked up, his expression dark as he stared at Jane Lancaster.

The smile never left Jane Lancaster’s lips as she met his gaze in silence.

’What happened to playing the nice guy? The moment your real interests are on the line, you show your true colors, don’t you?’

Jason Miller took a deep breath. Just as he was about to speak, another call came in.

Jane Lancaster’s sharp eyes caught the caller ID: "Third Brother." She was a little surprised. ’Who’s this now?’

"Give up Samuel Miller, and you’ll still have your younger son. But if you insist on fighting this, it won’t just be me in trouble—you’ll be going to prison too." The voice on the other end was calm. "You’d better think carefully about your next move."

Jason Miller quietly hung up, his eyes turning grim.

He’d never imagined that Jane Lancaster would have exposed every single one of his trump cards.

Now *this* was a real threat. It left him with no bargaining chips and no escape route. He had no way to fight back.

He had truly hit a steel plate today. To think a young woman could be so formidable... He was regretting it to his very core.

Jason Miller took a deep breath and bowed to Jane Lancaster. "I’m sorry, Miss Lancaster. This has all been a misunderstanding. The person pressuring our company is actually someone else."

Rosalind Quill was dumbfounded. She never in a million years expected him to apologize at a time like this.

"Honey, have you lost your mind? She’s the one who did it!"

"If it’s a misunderstanding, then let’s leave it at that," Jane Lancaster said. "And? Is that the only misunderstanding we need to clear up?"

She didn’t care about the mud the couple had slung at her today; she only cared about Mama Knight.

Jason Miller steeled himself. "Melody Knight, I also owe you an apology. Years ago, when Samuel was misbehaving, he stole his mother’s gold bracelet to sell for cash, but my wife mistakenly accused you of stealing it."

Rosalind Quill looked like she was about to go insane. "You’re lying! That’s not true! My son would never steal!"

She grabbed Jason Miller. "Honey, it was those phone calls, wasn’t it? Did she have someone threaten you? You can’t listen to her! That’s our only son!"

Jason Miller backhanded her across the face. "This is all your fault! If you had raised our son properly, he never would have done something like this! And I wouldn’t have had to slander Melody Knight against my own conscience! Well, now he’s pulled the same old trick, and he’s finally getting what he deserves!"

The force of the slap sent Rosalind Quill sprawling to the ground, her face swelling instantly.

The onlookers were stunned. If it weren’t true, he would have no reason to confess like that and strike his wife so viciously.

Oh my god, so that was the real story from all those years ago? That poor Melody Knight had the worst luck in the world, running into a family like that.

"That’s insane. The thief was crying ’thief’ all along," the crowd started to mutter, their condemnation palpable.

This was just too much. Was this couple’s whole performance today just some kind of sick joke?

Do they ever speak a word of truth?

As people pointed and stared, Jason Miller’s face turned ashen. But since he’d already revealed the truth, he had to make it look good.

He bowed to Mama Knight. "I’m sorry. My conscience has tormented me all these years. I hope you can forgive me."

Jane Lancaster’s gaze turned cold as she watched Jason Miller.

’This man is so cold-blooded and vicious, willing to abandon his eldest son in a heartbeat for his own benefit.’

’So self-righteous, and what a display of a father’s love. I’m sure he’s moved quite a few people with that act.’

Pauline Shaw had just been about to say that he probably had no choice, but upon hearing this, she decisively snapped her mouth shut.

She was more curious about how Jane Lancaster had threatened him.

To be threatened to the point of confessing everything like that meant it was no small matter.

However, she wasn’t the only one thinking along those lines. Many in the crowd looked at Jason Miller with sympathy.

"Regardless, I have to admire the man. He could have kept the truth hidden. If that’s not taking responsibility, what is?"

"He’s got guts!"

"They say a man should marry a virtuous wife. With a wife like her, it’s no wonder their son turned out that way."

Mama Knight’s eyes grew moist. She’d never imagined the day would come when the truth would be completely revealed.

But she knew very well who was responsible for the apology she received today.
