Chapter 144: I’m Coming Right Over to Show You Some Color

Holding an umbrella and his phone, Adrian Lancaster went to pick up Luna Morgan directly.

After arriving at Rosewind Estate, he realized Jane Lancaster might be serious this time.

She had suddenly dropped her facade, no longer pretending to be poised and generous, and his second-eldest brother didn’t seem too surprised either...

He could only imagine how many unreasonable demands Jane Lancaster had made on Luna Morgan during his absence, using her status as a life-saver as leverage.

Spoiled, willful, cold, and lacking empathy... this was the true face of the Lancaster family’s eldest daughter.

How could a child who had been spoiled since birth ever truly understand gratitude? To be honest, he wasn’t surprised at all. In fact, it felt like this was long overdue.

It was just like him. No matter how much his eldest and second-eldest brothers doted on him, he never felt a thing in his heart.

During his childhood, conditions in the countryside were harsh. His brothers often went hungry, but they never once let him starve.

Even so, he would still throw deliberate tantrums, demanding cake and chocolate. As soon as he started crying, his brothers would do everything in their power to satisfy him.

But the more they did, the less he cared. ’Perhaps that’s just how things are in this world. What is obtained too easily is never cherished.’

Only his father had ever treated him with disdain, which was why he tried so desperately to please the man.

Since Jane Lancaster had the same blood running through her veins, how could she be any different?

’No, she should be even more cold-blooded and selfish than I am.’

’I only had my two older brothers. She’s different. Father’s bottomless indulgence made the entire family accustomed to revolving around her.’

’But her willfulness shouldn’t be paid for by the innocent Luna Morgan.’

"Let me know when you’re almost here." He also sent her his location.

She seemed a little surprised on the other end: "Are you coming to pick me up?"

’Why is she so surprised?’ But then, she was always like this, constantly worried about bothering him.

Back when he shot to fame competing on The Tower of Wit, he had needed to invite a partner for the final team battle. After considering various factors, he had invited Luna Morgan.

She didn’t disappoint him, either. She never held him back, and the two of them smoothly won the championship.

At the time, his fans had quite a few complaints, flocking to Luna Morgan’s Weibo to warn her not to cause trouble, not to be a leech, and to stay away.

After he became a huge star, she took the initiative to distance herself from him, saying she was happy just to see him shining brightly on television.

Adrian Lancaster replied: "Don’t worry, I’ll wear a mask."

In reality, the chances of running into fans at this hour were slim. The streets were basically empty of pedestrians.

Adrian Lancaster walked on, umbrella in hand. After about eight or nine hundred meters, he suddenly sensed an unusual presence behind him.

Just as he was about to turn his head, he was struck from behind by a heavy club.

「A few minutes later, in a van.」

A man, holding Adrian Lancaster’s phone, sent a message to Jane Lancaster.

He wanted to use the same old trick to lure her out. That way, they could abduct her quietly, drive the van off to a remote place, and it would be nearly impossible for anyone to catch up.

"Jay, your brother has a surprise gift for you. Come to the lakeside, and come alone."

Chubby, who was in charge of the messages, had wracked his brain to come up with that sentence.

’No girl can refuse a mysterious surprise and a bit of romance. She’ll definitely come alone!’

DING! A reply came through. Chubby held his breath as he read it.

"Okay."

"She took the bait!" Chubby slapped his thigh in delight.

"Do you think I’m an idiot? Yesterday you pretended to be a murderer to scare me, and now you’re trying to pull another trick? Don’t tell me you’re a kidnapper now, are you?"

The smile froze on Chubby’s face. Furious, he slapped the hostage hard across the face.

"What kind of brother are you?! How are we supposed to lure her out when the target is this wary?"

Caught off guard, Adrian Lancaster was momentarily dazed by the slap. He lowered his gaze to hide the murderous intent in his eyes.

’Very good. These people had well and truly pissed him off.’

"Boss, I think I’ve got something!" another goon, Scorpion, raised his hand.

He had used Luna Morgan’s phone to send a message to Jane Lancaster.

"The cake is here, but I took a fall. Can you come out and help me?"

The reply came back quickly this time: "You dropped my cake? You just wait, I’m coming over right now to teach you a lesson!"

The boss happily patted Scorpion’s shoulder. "Nicely done!"

’See? A woman’s jealousy is a terrifying thing. All she can think about is dealing with her rival; it doesn’t even occur to her that it’s a trap.’

The man got out of the van with Scorpion and another goon and hid in the shrubbery. Chubby and the driver remained in the vehicle to guard Adrian Lancaster.

Through the hazy night, a figure appeared at the end of the road.

The men took a look and thought it had to be her: long, wavy hair, a white dress, and quite tall.

Scorpion, eager to prove himself, crept up behind the figure. Just as he was about to clamp a hand over their mouth, he suddenly realized something was wrong. ’Isn’t this Miss Lancaster a little too... built?’

Alvin Lancaster’s heart was in his throat. He slammed his body backward.

They came face-to-face. Scorpion’s eyes went wide. "You’re a man?"

The boss, lying in wait behind them, quickly realized there was a problem. Just as he was about to give a warning, a cold gust of wind rushed past his ear.

His attacker was ruthless, aiming for the back of his head. Even though he dodged, he was still grazed. He reached up and felt a handful of blood.

"I told you I’d teach you a lesson. Isn’t red a lovely color?" Jane Lancaster said with a smile.

The boss had been about to counterattack, but her words made him hesitate. His opponent had clearly come prepared.

Most importantly, his other goon was completely silent. He must have already been ambushed.

The boss made a split-second decision. He leaped out of the bushes, sprinted for the van, and yanked open the door, scrambling inside.

Alvin Lancaster, armed with an umbrella, poked at Scorpion, forcing him to retreat. Seeing the boss flee, Alvin panicked. "Chase is still in the van!"

Scorpion panicked too. "Boss, what about me!"

He saw a woman standing by the road and impatiently pulled out a small knife from his pocket. Just as he was about to lunge, she made the first move.

Scorpion fell to his knees, his small knife clattering to the ground.

Alvin Lancaster, who had been charging forward, broke out in a cold sweat at the sound and froze in his tracks.

"You just let him get behind you?" Jane Lancaster snatched up the knife and brought her club down on Scorpion’s arm.

"AHH!" Scorpion screamed in pain.

Mama Knight poked her head out from the bushes, trembling. "Young Miss, I’ve got this one tied up."

She remembered the Young Miss’s instructions: the handkerchief only had a limited amount of chloroform, so its effects weren’t guaranteed. They had to tie the person up immediately after they passed out.

But the Second Young Master had clearly forgotten. He actually dared to turn his back on a criminal.

’One slash from that knife and he could have been killed!’

Mama Knight walked over and helped Jane Lancaster tie Scorpion up, pushing him onto the small path.

"But Chase is still in the van," Alvin Lancaster said anxiously.

Jane Lancaster gave him a humorless smile. "Fine. Then you go chase them."

"Great idea. Just keep standing in the middle of the road. Wait for them to realize we don’t have many people, circle back, and grab you while they’re at it."

Terrified, Alvin Lancaster immediately hurried after them.

"Jay, what do we do now?"

Their surprise attack had only succeeded because his sister’s predictions were god-like, catching the enemy completely off guard.
