Willow Summers looked aggrieved. "But I truly see Jane as a good friend."

Pauline Shaw scoffed, "Heh, if you were good friends, you’d be like Jay and me, telling everyone loud and proud. Do you dare?"

Jane Lancaster: "..."

’Why are these two suddenly battling it out for no reason?’

’Wait, don’t Willow Summers and I just have a relationship of mutual convenience?’

Pauline Shaw couldn’t help but feel a little smug. "See? You don’t even dare to tell anyone. Who knows what your real intentions are?"

’What is Pauline Shaw so smug about? Wasn’t she just trying to prop up Luna Morgan by putting me down? Now she’s flaunting our friendship. What are her real motives?’

Pauline Shaw: "..."

’What other motive could I have? Of course I don’t want her to be deceived by Willow Summers!’

"Jane, it’s not that I don’t want to tell Mandy, but I need more time. Mandy has helped me a lot, after all, and she’s deeply prejudiced against you... But you’re so wonderful. I believe that once we clear up this prejudice, Mandy will definitely grow to like you!"

Jane Lancaster maintained her smile. "Alright, I believe you."

Pauline Shaw rolled her eyes. "I’d advise you not to. You and Beverly Lynch can never be friends."

Jane Lancaster probably didn’t even know that Beverly Lynch had once been on the verge of being engaged to Caleb Lowell.

Back then, not only had Beverly Lynch secretly given her heart to him, but the Lynch Family had even taken the initiative to send a matchmaker to the Lowell Family, intending to finalize the engagement.

At the time, you couldn’t say Caleb Lowell was entirely unmoved; at the very least, he wasn’t against the marriage alliance. That was until he fell in love with Jane Lancaster, and his attitude turned completely cold.

If Jane Lancaster hadn’t interfered, Beverly Lynch would have been Caleb Lowell’s fiancée long ago.

This affair would always be a thorn between the two of them, making it impossible for them to ever become friends.

Of course, Willow Summers knew what she was referring to and shot her a warning glare.

Pauline Shaw, not to be outdone, glared right back. As their eyes met, it was as if sparks crackled between them.

Jane Lancaster shot to her feet. "Excuse me, I’m going to the restroom."

Willow Summers quickly stood up and followed her. "I’ll go to the restroom too."

Pauline Shaw sneered. ’I’m not going to follow them. Willow Summers is so secretive just to meet up, there’s no way she’d dare to walk out in the open with Jane Lancaster.’

Just as she expected, Jane Lancaster returned shortly after, but Willow Summers was nowhere to be seen.

"Jay, it looks like there’s dancing downstairs. Let’s go down," Pauline Shaw suggested.

Suddenly, a scream came from downstairs.

The voice sounded somewhat familiar to Pauline Shaw. She leaned over to look, and her expression changed instantly.

She whipped her head around to look at Jane Lancaster beside her.

Jane Lancaster was also looking downstairs.

’I knew it felt like some part of the plot hadn’t happened yet today. The scene where the heroine gets bullied but someone quickly shows up to defend her and slap down the aggressor—it’s late, but it’s finally here.’

Downstairs, Beverly Lynch had somehow bumped into Luna Morgan.

Beverly Lynch looked at the corner of her dress, then sneered, took a glass of red wine from a nearby waiter’s tray, and threw it directly in Luna Morgan’s face.

The scream had come from Luna Morgan. She was still in shock from having wine thrown on her, unable to react.

"Miss Lynch, how could you?" Luna Morgan looked at her skirt, on the verge of tears from anger. This dress was borrowed.

Now that it was ruined, how could she possibly pay for it?

Beverly Lynch’s tone was impatient. "I’m already being polite by not slapping you. Who told you to get my dress dirty?"

"But you were the one blocking the way and not letting people pass. That’s why Luna accidentally spilled her drink on you," a man next to Luna Morgan whispered.

Beverly Lynch was just bullying her because she had power!

"This isn’t her house. What’s the big idea blocking people’s way on purpose?"

"She’s definitely trying to start trouble. It’s too much."

"She’s always like this, loves to bully people from less powerful families."

Willow Summers cried, "You’re all talking nonsense! My Mandy isn’t that kind of person! Besides, she was the one who was staring at Shawn Sutton first!"

Luna Morgan froze, her eyes widening in disbelief. "Can’t I even look?"

"No! He’s my man! What do you mean by staring at him? Are you trying to steal him away?" Beverly Lynch snapped.

Luna Morgan’s face flushed with anger. "I wasn’t staring at him! He looked at me first, so I looked back. Besides, I just took a second look because I thought he looked familiar."

Beverly Lynch scoffed, "Heh, what a cliché excuse. He looks familiar? What’s next, he looks like your first love?"

"It’s true!" Luna Morgan said, flustered. "I just thought his side profile looked a little like Mr. Lowell."

As soon as she said this, the scene fell silent.

This was when Jane Lancaster and Pauline Shaw arrived.

Beverly Lynch froze for a moment before realizing which Mr. Lowell she was talking about.

She glanced at Jane Lancaster, her expression turning ugly. "I’m warning you—watch your mouth! My Shawn doesn’t look like anyone. You’re spreading slander, you understand?"

Pauline Shaw retorted, "You know perfectly well whether she’s slandering or not. So, you’re allowed to find a substitute, but no one’s allowed to talk about it?"

Beverly Lynch rolled her eyes. "I don’t know what you’re talking about. How boring. Shawn, let’s go!"

She had just linked arms with her boyfriend and was about to turn away when she saw Caleb Lowell and Clayton Lowell walking toward them.

’Here it is, the classic chaotic confrontation scene! It’s over. Beverly Lynch is about to be humiliated.’

Jane Lancaster gave Beverly Lynch a sympathetic glance.

Pauline Shaw caught her expression and was speechless. ’Why are you concerned about Beverly Lynch?’

’Right now, you’re the person Beverly Lynch hates the most. You’re in no position to pity her.’

"What happened?" Clayton Lowell was the first to ask.

Jane Lancaster volunteered, "This is probably how it went down: This Mr. Sutton looked at Luna a few times, and Luna thought his side profile looked familiar, so she looked back a couple of times. Miss Lynch probably misunderstood and stood in the way, which caused Luna to accidentally bump into her and spill a drink on her dress. Miss Lynch thought it was intentional, so she threw her own drink back at her."

Pauline Shaw was truly speechless. She’d never seen someone try to smooth things over so blatantly. "So you’re saying no one is at fault?"

"Of course! It was all just a misunderstanding. Now that it’s out in the open, everyone can still be friends," Jane Lancaster said, as if it were the most obvious thing in the world.

Pauline Shaw sneered. As if Beverly Lynch would ever accept that explanation.

Among their group, when it came to being blinded by love, who was more extreme than Beverly Lynch?

She usually doted on her boyfriend. Last time, Pauline herself got chewed out just for stealing a glance at him. Now that Jane Lancaster was blaming the incident on him, how could Beverly Lynch not explode?

Willow Summers also stole a worried glance at Beverly Lynch, wondering how she should put out this fire in a moment.

Jane Lancaster’s words seemed fair, but they actually directed the blame toward Shawn Sutton.

Shawn Sutton was the type of person who would complain if someone so much as looked at him for too long. How could he possibly be willing to take the fall for this?

"I didn’t look at her first!" Sure enough, Shawn Sutton was quick to distance himself from the situation.

Beverly Lynch’s expression was calm. "Perhaps you glanced at her first by accident."

Willow Summers was surprised. ’She just accepted that explanation so easily?’

Pauline Shaw figured it out quickly. It was probably because Caleb Lowell, the real deal, was present, making the substitute seem far less important.
