Chapter 155: Don’t Tell Me You Also Saved a Boy in Your Childhood?
"This is the tutor your family found for you? Did they find him just to piss you off?"
Beverly Lynch complained as Willow Summers helped her up.
Her parents, for instance, would never cause her such trouble. If a teacher wasn’t good, they would have her switched to a different class immediately.
As the saying goes, a higher-ranking official can crush you with their authority. Otherwise, what was she supposed to do? Wait for him to make her life difficult and cause trouble?
Jane Lancaster glanced at her. "Yeah. They did find him just to piss me off."
She was in no mood for small talk. She noticed a commotion over by Quentin Woods and saw that Julian Lancaster had come out to greet him.
Not only was Julian there, but Adrian Lancaster was as well. Even Alvin Lancaster had kept Mia Langley behind and was walking over to exchange pleasantries with Julian and Quentin Woods.
The group was laughing and chatting, creating a warm and harmonious atmosphere.
Mia Langley noticed her gaze and glanced back provocatively.
’Aren’t you so tough? Now your family is begging me to look after you, keeping me here as an honored guest. You still can’t do anything about it. You just have to bow your head to me.’
Jane Lancaster was the type who couldn’t stand being provoked. She strode over.
"So many people. It’s so lively." Her gaze landed on the man standing behind Julian Lancaster.
He was tall, with a rugged build that even a suit couldn’t hide. He had the air of a gangster in a suit.
Even though he was reserved and quiet, his presence was still powerful, and quite a few women were secretly inquiring about him.
After all, it was rare to see such a tough-guy type, practically oozing testosterone!
Julian Lancaster looked up and saw Jane Lancaster, waving her over. "Jay, come and say hello to Professor Woods."
Jane Lancaster ignored him, instead staring at the man and asking, "Brother, who is this? How come I don’t know him?"
The man smiled amicably at Jane Lancaster. "Miss Lancaster, you can just call me Leo. I’m a good friend of Luna’s."
"What do you do, Mr. Leo? I feel like we’ve met somewhere before." Jane Lancaster stared at him, a faint impression surfacing in her mind. "It must have been when we were children. You were injured..."
"Is that so?" Leo cut her off. "I’m sure this is the first time we’ve met."
Luna Morgan pressed her lips together, a faint sense of unease stirring within her.
Leo was her good friend. They had formed a friendship, but she had only recently found out that they had met as children and that she had saved him.
Leo had never forgotten the little girl who saved him back then. He had been searching for her all these years and finally found her, feeling that their connection was destined.
Besides, when she had helped Leo before, she had no idea about his true identity and had just thought he was some poor kid.
Now that Leo had transformed into the owner of a winery and several bars, Jane Lancaster was cozying up to him and saying such things. It was hard not to read into it.
"It’s possible they have met before," she said after a moment’s thought. She would always try to help Jane Lancaster get whatever she wanted.
"How is that possible?" Leo gave a helpless smile. "I was only injured like that once, and you were the one who saved me. How could a second person suddenly appear?"
His words instantly cleared up any confusion in the crowd.
So Jane Lancaster was trying to cozy up to him, desperately trying to steal Luna Morgan’s credit for saving him!
Leo’s winery had recently launched several popular whiskies that were selling exceptionally well, making him a newly minted business magnate that many people wanted to connect with.
It wouldn’t be that surprising if Jane Lancaster had set her sights on him...
But to falsely claim someone else’s deed as your own was going too far, wasn’t it? And right in front of the people involved, too.
Quentin Woods’s face fell immediately. "You didn’t come over to greet me, but to fight over a man?"
Jane Lancaster: "Could you please shut up?"
She turned her head to look at Leo. "Are you sure you didn’t see me when you were injured as a child?"
Leo looked even more helpless. "Miss Lancaster, I’m sorry, but my savior is Luna."
Jane Lancaster breathed a sigh of relief. "Then it probably wasn’t you."
’This guy isn’t a good person, though. An ambitious schemer has entered the scene. The waters in this pond are about to get even murkier.’
Julian Lancaster was a bit surprised. ’Leo is an ambitious schemer?’
"What, did you also happen to save a boy when you were little?" Mia Langley asked sarcastically. ’Why does she love stealing Luna Morgan’s things so much? I was jealous of all the favor Luna received, but now I can’t help but sympathize with her. Fame and fortune were all handed over to Jane, but she’s still not satisfied. Now she’s even trying to steal her friends.’
"Senior Langley, please don’t say that. Miss Lancaster has always been very kind. I’m sure she’s saved many people since she was a child," Luna Morgan quickly interjected to smooth things over.
Jane Lancaster thought for a moment. "Not really. When I met that injured boy as a child, not only did I not save him, I think I beat him up."
Leo’s expression stiffened slightly, and he narrowed his eyes at Jane Lancaster.
Luna Morgan’s eyes widened. ’How is that possible? Miss Lancaster must be joking!’
"Why would you do that? I’m sure you had your reasons. That boy must have been a bad person!"
Jane Lancaster considered it. "I can’t remember. But if the scene were reenacted, I might remember why I hit him."
Quentin Woods was not about to be ignored like this. ’What did she even come over here for? Am I not worthy of her attention? This is outrageous!’
"So this is what you were like as a child, attacking people for no reason?" Quentin Woods scolded. "Not only are you not ashamed, you’re actually proud of it! Is this how you were raised?"
Mia Langley: "The Lancaster family’s upbringing surely isn’t like that, but Miss Lancaster seems to have a particularly stubborn temper. Just now, I asked her to come greet Elder Woods, and she refused."
The several students standing by Quentin Woods could no longer stand it.
"Absurd! Does she have no respect for her teachers?"
"Which of us isn’t perfectly respectful when we see our professor? What gives her the right to be so arrogant?"
"If she’s not sincere about becoming his student, I don’t see any need for her to attend this apprenticeship banquet."
"That’s right! Even if the professor agrees, we won’t!"
Jane Lancaster looked at the people who had spoken, and everything clicked into place.
’These people are all plants for Quentin Woods, aren’t they? The professor and his students planned this out long ago to put me in my place.’
Although Quentin Woods had agreed to take her on at the request of Luna Morgan and Julian Lancaster, his other students hadn’t.
If the students insisted on testing their prospective junior on behalf of their professor, it would be difficult for others to stop them.
Adrian Lancaster glanced at Jane Lancaster. ’She’s figured it out, but it’s too late now.’
’At a time like this, I’m certainly not going to leak the questions to her, nor will I help her cheat in front of everyone.’
"So what do you plan to do?" Jane Lancaster asked.
The students exchanged a look. "It’s nothing much, really. The professor said he’s taking you on because he recognized your talent. We’d also like to see for ourselves what kind of skills our little junior has that would make the professor make an exception and accept you. You should know, the professor has never taken an undergraduate student before."
Moreover, Jane Lancaster hadn’t even officially enrolled yet, so she wasn’t even considered an undergraduate.
"How about this? Let’s have a competition right here. What do you say to painting in an antique style?" someone suggested.
Jane Lancaster looked a little disappointed. "That’s it? I thought we were going to compete in ancient painting restoration."
"What are you talking about? Those ancient paintings are priceless. What if you damage one?" ’Are you kidding me? Are cultural relics something you can just use for a bet?’
Julian Lancaster spoke up. "Painting on the spot would take too much time. How about this? What if we do a live Q&A session instead?"
