Chapter 95: I Do Hate Her
Jane Lancaster’s expression was candid. "I am quite surprised. After all, Caleb Lowell only said he would clarify things. I didn’t expect him to contact the Lynch family."
’This just proves I’m only fit to be the villainess. A moment ago, I was suspecting that Caleb Lowell was taking so long because he’d run into some resistance.’
’After all, if he publicly supported me, it would be the same as slapping the Lynch family in the face. The Lowell Group and the Lynch Group have worked together for years, so the company’s executives would definitely try to stop him. It would have been completely normal for him to run into trouble.’
’Sigh, I’m the worst for doubting the male lead’s sincerity like that.’
"Sorry, I just misunderstood your cousin."
She was so calm and composed that it made Pauline Shaw feel like a pathetic, posturing clown.
Turning to see Willow Summers staring at her, Pauline Shaw snapped, "What are you looking at?"
"With Uncle Lynch doing this, Beverly Lynch probably can’t handle it, can she? Shouldn’t you hurry up and go comfort your dear friend?"
Willow Summers bit her lip. She also suspected the Lynch Group had published that statement as part of some deal with Caleb Lowell.
This was most likely done behind Beverly Lynch’s back. She had to be incredibly hurt right now.
In the comments, plenty of drama-loving netizens had dug up Beverly Lynch’s personal account and were frantically tagging her.
Many of the comments were just fanning the flames: "Hey girl, go look at your Lynch Group’s statement. Who’s the real Miss Lynch, anyway?", "You poor thing, your fiancé dumped you for a green tea, and now your own family is backstabbing you. You must feel so wronged," "JL is such a bitch, we support you coming out and tearing her apart," and "Still no response? Don’t tell me they’ve silenced you."
These comments made even Willow Summers angry, let alone Beverly Lynch herself.
"Jane, I’m sorry, I really have to go." Willow Summers was worried sick about Beverly Lynch and was desperate to get to her side.
Beverly Lynch had a bad temper and was easily provoked. Willow was also worried Yvonne and her friends would give her some terrible ideas.
Willow Summers made a call as she walked out. "Yvonne, are you with Mandy right now?"
"No, I can’t reach Mandy! But she’s logged into her account, so she’s definitely getting ready to rip into Jane Lancaster. I’ve already rallied the troops, just waiting for Mandy to give the word. We’re going to destroy that shameless homewrecker!" Yvonne Jennings’ voice was practically buzzing with excitement.
Willow Summers’s heart sank. ’This is bad,’ she thought. ’Things are heading in the worst possible direction!’
"Calm down. Don’t rush to post anything online, or you could cause some serious trouble."
Yvonne scoffed. "What’s there to hesitate about when we’re taking down a homewrecker? Just because you’re scared of your own shadow doesn’t mean the rest of us are!"
With that, she hung up. When Willow tried calling back, she didn’t answer.
Willow Summers was speechless. "..."
She spun on her heel and rushed back into the private room.
"Why are you back?" Pauline Shaw asked, clearly displeased.
Willow Summers blurted out, "This is bad! Mandy logged into her account and is preparing to attack! Yvonne and the others found a bunch of people, and they’re all getting ready to tear you apart!"
If Beverly Lynch, the main party in question, spoke out now, the Lynch Group’s recent statement would be completely useless!
Jane Lancaster’s reputation would only get worse. After all, people hate seeing someone silenced by corporate power.
If Beverly Lynch, the heiress of the Lynch family, was cast aside by her own relatives, it would only make Jane Lancaster seem that much more arrogant and domineering.
This whole affair would spiral completely out of control!
But Beverly Lynch’s phone was unreachable. Willow Summers was frantic with worry; she really didn’t want those two to reach a point of no return.
’Is it worth it, all for a man?’
Pauline Shaw shot to her feet. "Is Beverly Lynch insane? This will damage the Lynch Group’s reputation too!"
Jane Lancaster handed a glass of water to Willow Summers. "Calm down. Maybe that’s not what Beverly Lynch intends to do."
Pauline Shaw had already pulled up Beverly Lynch’s account and saw that she was, indeed, online.
"Of course that’s what she’s going to do! The man she loves and the father she reveres most both turned their backs on her. How could she possibly stomach that?"
Jane Lancaster’s tone grew serious. "Beverly Lynch doesn’t love Caleb Lowell."
"How is that possible?" Pauline Shaw was utterly unconvinced.
Jane Lancaster said, "In any case, let’s just wait. Beverly Lynch probably just wants to clarify a few things."
They didn’t have to wait long. Pauline Shaw refreshed the page and saw that Beverly Lynch had shared the Lynch Group’s statement, adding that she would hold those spreading rumors accountable.
Pauline Shaw was stunned, and the comment section absolutely exploded.
[What the hell is going on? I’m totally lost.]
[Beverly Lynch, blink twice if you’re being held hostage.]
[All I can say is, JL is so lucky to have a fiancé like that. Beverly Lynch must be going soft on her ex and letting them off the hook, right?]
[As a long-time fan, this breaks my heart. Our Mandy has always been so fierce and passionate. I can’t believe that homewrecker is so arrogant, not just provoking her but pushing her luck. I bet Mandy was in so much pain when she made this decision. All I can say is, that homewrecker can go to hell!]
This comment got a ton of likes, and the replies were a flood of "hugs" and "my heart aches for you."
Beverly Lynch replied to it: [Homewrecker my ass. Spread that rumor one more time and see what happens.]
Many people were baffled. The original poster of the comment replied aggrievedly, saying they meant well. "Why are you cursing at people? With an attitude like that, aren’t you afraid of becoming irrelevant?"
Beverly Lynch: [You just followed me today, what kind of "long-time fan" are you? Don’t just see a topic about "beating up a homewrecker" and get on your high horse acting like the righteous, wronged wife. I’ve made it clear enough: Caleb Lowell and I were never engaged and never dated. Keep this crap up, and I’ll sue you too!]
Many neutral onlookers saw this and silently gave her reply a like.
In reality, both the Lynch Group and Beverly Lynch herself had made their positions clear. But some people were just self-righteous, projecting their own feelings onto the situation and getting fired up about bringing a "homewrecker" to justice.
Now the supposed victim was explicitly refusing to play along. Awkward, right?
[LMAO, you even dared to question the Lynch Group’s statement. If they don’t speak for their own heiress, who are they supposed to speak for? Some people get so obsessed with being the internet police. So, tell me, does that slap in the face sting?]
Reading this, Pauline Shaw felt her own face flush, and she grew flustered.
Could it be that Beverly Lynch really didn’t love her cousin? But how was that possible?
Jane Lancaster sighed. "You probably don’t know this, but at the banquet that night, Beverly Lynch publicly declared that she had never loved Caleb Lowell."
Pauline Shaw had heard those rumors over the past couple of days, but she’d dismissed them, thinking it was more likely Beverly Lynch was just trying to save face.
Now, Beverly Lynch’s statement felt like a slap across the face from miles away, leaving her completely dazed.
—
Yvonne Jennings was also baffled. This wasn’t how it was supposed to go!
She had already rallied her friends, just waiting for Beverly Lynch to give the order. But now Beverly was personally taking people down—were they still supposed to join in or not?
Her friends were all asking her what was going on. Yvonne thought for a moment, then sent a voice message in their group chat, tagging Beverly Lynch.
"Mandy, what’s gotten into you? I thought you hated Jane Lancaster more than anyone."
Beverly Lynch finally sent a voice message in reply, her tone completely nonchalant. "I do hate her, but let’s get our facts straight. She’s not the homewrecker. I hate Caleb Lowell more."
Willow Summers had been leaning in, trying to listen to the phone, but the room had suddenly gone quiet, making Beverly Lynch’s voice perfectly clear.
Pauline Shaw subconsciously turned to look at Jane Lancaster.
Jane Lancaster: "..."
