Chapter 134: Jay, I Must Go Save Luna

Pauline Shaw shot to her feet, making a loud noise.

’Kidnapped?’ She was frantic. ’How could Jane Lancaster not have breathed a word about something so important!’

When Jane Lancaster’s gaze swept over her, she quickly composed herself.

’No, I can’t just probe her like this. If she wanted to talk, she would have already. If she doesn’t, I won’t be able to force it out of her, and I’ll just end up exposing myself.’

"She’s gone. Do you think she might have taken a cab?" she asked, playing dumb.

"No way. Luna never takes cabs," Chloe Dave immediately disagreed. "If she did, why can’t we get through to her phone?"

Caleb Lowell clutched the Amulet in his pocket, his heart feeling as if it were being torn apart. A moment later, he said coldly, "If you suspect something’s happened to her, then call the police."

With that, he hung up the phone.

Pauline Shaw panicked. ’How can her cousin really do nothing?’

She forced herself to calm down. "For a suspected missing adult, the police usually won’t open a case until 24 hours have passed. It’s useless to report it now, isn’t it?"

’She’s right, it’s useless. You have no proof. How can you prove she isn’t just hiding somewhere because she’s upset?’

’These people are organized, and they aren’t after money. As long as they keep her hidden and out of sight, it’ll be incredibly hard for the police to track her down.’

Pauline Shaw’s heart tightened.

’Not for ransom? Then what for? Luna is always so good to people, there’s no way she has any enemies!’

Chloe Dave called again, this time to Caleb Lowell’s assistant.

The assistant answered, put the call on speaker, and held the phone out to Caleb Lowell.

"Zion, I remember now! When I was just getting here, that car passed right by me! It has to be connected to that guy!"

’They found a key clue this quickly?’ Jane Lancaster was surprised.

Pauline Shaw quickly asked, "Which guy?"

"It was the guy who was stalking Luna a few days ago! When I caught him, he claimed he was just a suitor, then he pulled out a diamond ring and proposed on the spot! I was so pissed off I chased him away. He was driving that exact car!"

Caleb Lowell gave Jane Lancaster a long look. He understood. The only things about Luna Morgan that others would covet were her talent... and her.

He’d seen it before—the ugly, twisted faces of suitors driven mad by obsession.

Back then, he had even misunderstood her, thinking she was being a flirt and bringing this kind of attention upon herself.

She was kind and gentle, innocent and unable to protect herself. He knew all too well how powerfully that kind of temperament attracted men.

It wouldn’t be surprising, then, if someone flew into a rage out of humiliation after being rejected and resorted to forcibly kidnapping her.

"Cousin," Pauline Shaw said, looking at Caleb Lowell for help.

’They had a lead now. If Caleb Lowell stepped in, he could surely rescue her without a problem.’

’If he goes to rescue her now, I don’t think I have a good reason to stop him...’ Jane mused.

Pauline Shaw had a realization. ’Right, this isn’t the engagement ceremony. Her cousin had to leave for something anyway!’

"Cousin, I’m begging you! Luna saved my life, so please, do this for my sake!"

Caleb Lowell was deeply conflicted. He knew he shouldn’t go, but the thought of Luna Morgan being hurt made his heart clench painfully.

"Jay!" Alvin Lancaster burst in excitedly. "You’ve been accepted into the art program at Stratton University! What’s more, Professor Quentin Woods publicly praised your talent and wants to take you on as his student!"

Everyone stared at him. This was truly wonderful news!

"This is a double blessing! No, a triple blessing!" someone exclaimed, but immediately shut up when they realized the atmosphere in the room was off.

Alvin Lancaster was utterly confused. "What’s wrong?"

Jane Lancaster said, "Luna is missing, but I’m guessing she’ll be fine."

Willow Summers had been wanting to say something for a while. How could they all just decide Luna Morgan had been kidnapped after a single phone call from Chloe Dave? It was absurd.

"I agree. Maybe she got into the car willingly?"

Pauline Shaw snapped, "Willow Summers, shut your mouth!"

Just as Willow Summers was about to retort, Jane Lancaster quickly cut in, "I think that makes sense. Luna is always so kind to people, what if this is all just a misunderstanding?"

’Willow, please don’t say any more classic villainess lines!’

A chill went through Pauline Shaw. ’She knows perfectly well that Luna was kidnapped. It’s one thing to withhold information that could save her, but to actively obstruct the rescue effort?’

’Luna just gave her a gift that promised a brilliant future. Does she have a heart at all?’

"Jay, you’re a woman too. You know what happens when a woman is abducted by a strange man. She could face rape, beatings, and other violent acts. Luna is so stubborn, she’ll never give in. What if the kidnapper flies into a rage and kills her? Have you forgotten the kidnapping incident back then?"

If they had all led sheltered lives, they might not have been able to imagine such human evil, thinking things would never go that far.

But it was precisely because they had once been helpless victims at the mercy of others that they understood you should never be naive about the wickedness of human nature.

No one in the room dared to speak.

After all, no one could guarantee that what Pauline Shaw described wouldn’t happen.

Caleb Lowell quickly made his decision. "Jay, I have to go rescue Luna."

’He had to take some responsibility for this. If he hadn’t driven Luna Morgan out, the kidnapper might not have dared to act so brazenly.’

The thought filled him with agony. He had brought harm to the kind Luna Morgan.

Jane Lancaster grabbed the hem of his jacket. "Do you have to go yourself? Can’t you just let Chloe Dave rescue her?"

Caleb Lowell ruthlessly pulled her hand away.

"Don’t worry. I’ll rescue her quickly. I absolutely won’t let this delay the engagement ceremony tomorrow."

"Jay, you have to believe me. I still love you as much as ever!"

After dropping those two lines, Caleb Lowell strode away.

The assistant quickly called away the bodyguards assigned to Jane Lancaster.

They were in desperate need of manpower right now; there was no time for such considerations.

Pauline Shaw went with them as well.

"Don’t you dare go!" Beverly Lynch, who had just rushed over, tried to stop him but was held back by a bodyguard.

The room fell silent.

Beverly Lynch was furious. ’Did that bastard really just eat his own words?’

’With her fiery temper, she couldn’t stand for this for a second!’

However, seeing Jane Lancaster looking downcast and heartbroken, she decided to hold her tongue.

Alvin Lancaster hesitated for a moment, then looked at his sister with concern. "Jay, don’t be angry. Caleb Lowell... he’s just trying to save someone..."

He knew that Caleb abandoning his sister for another woman would be incredibly humiliating for her, leaving her to be mocked by everyone.

But at the same time, he was also genuinely worried about Luna Morgan.

Willow Summers chimed in sarcastically, "That’s right. He’s so incredible, the world would stop turning without him."

"Hey!" Beverly Lynch said in a deliberately casual tone. "You’re not going to cry, are you? It’s not that big a deal."

Jane Lancaster looked up, forcing a smile. "Zion going to rescue someone is the right thing to do."

’Yeah, right. I’m fucking ecstatic, okay? We’ve finally reached this step! This is cause for celebration!’

’But wait, isn’t Caleb Lowell forgetting something? Doesn’t he need to rush to a company meeting? It’s probably not a good idea to keep all those senior executives waiting, is it?’

Beverly Lynch: "..."

She was starting to get it. Jane Lancaster wasn’t just not sad, she was actually happy.

’Well, that was great news. That bastard wasn’t worth her sadness anyway.’

She smiled and ordered a server, "Bring out the champagne I brought. I’d like to share it with everyone."

The others nearby: "..."

’So the rumors about them not getting along were true. Jane Lancaster is heartbroken, and here’s Beverly Lynch popping open champagne to celebrate!’
