Chapter 160: Your Sense of Color Seems Even Stronger Than Mine
Luna Morgan froze. Her mind was a mess, and she didn’t know how to respond. She murmured, "It wasn’t me..."
The "Clearance Failed" notification completely drowned out her voice.
Quentin Woods didn’t hear what she said, but that wasn’t important. What was important was that she had cleared the game!
The only person to clear this game in over a decade since its development!
This meant that Luna Morgan’s talent was even greater than he had imagined—a level no one else could reach!
By discovering and nurturing such an outstanding talent, he would naturally share in the glory.
A fire burned in Quentin Woods’s heart, and he was so thrilled he could barely contain himself. It was as if he could see a future where, with Luna Morgan’s help, he would skyrocket to success, gaining both fame and fortune!
"You’re just too calm and collected, my child. But this composure, whether facing praise or criticism, truly shows the makings of a great leader." Quentin Woods laughed heartily and turned to the crowd. "Actually, I’ve known Luna for a few months now. She’s assisted me on several important projects, and her performance has been outstanding."
"I originally wanted to take her as my disciple directly, but she refused. She insisted on taking the assessment, and she even passed it! She has such integrity."
"I want to announce that today, I will accept Luna as my final disciple. I will not be taking any more students after this!"
Alvin Lancaster sensed a hidden meaning in his words. "What do you mean, not taking any more students?"
Isn’t today Jay’s master-disciple ceremony?
Jane Lancaster answered for him. "He means that today, he is only accepting Luna Morgan as his disciple. It has nothing to do with me."
’I told you this apprenticeship would never happen, but you just wouldn’t believe me.’
’This is hilarious. Paying someone to come and slap you in the face. How stupid can you be?’
Alvin Lancaster was completely stunned. He blurted out, "How can that be!"
The Lancaster Family had specifically followed Quentin Woods’s instructions, organized a grand master-disciple ceremony, and invited so many distinguished guests.
And now he was publicly refusing her? Isn’t that just trampling all over his sister’s dignity?
"Why can’t it be?" Ian Lane perked up, delighted. ’Great! Now I can put Jane Lancaster in her place.’
"The professor gave Jane Lancaster a chance. She was the one who said she’d compete with us. As long as one of us could beat her, she would consider it her loss. And now she’s lost!"
He looked at Jane Lancaster’s phone with schadenfreude. "That ’Clearance Failed’ notification just now was yours, wasn’t it? How many levels did you pass? Don’t tell me you didn’t even make it past the first ten?"
Jane Lancaster said, "And how many levels did you pass?"
"Level 52!" Ian Lane said, immensely proud. This was an impressive score, a personal best for him.
Jane Lancaster looked at Quentin Woods. "So, you’re publicly refusing to take me as your disciple?"
She wanted a definitive answer, not just a few fools jumping around.
Quentin Woods hadn’t deigned to respond, but since Jane Lancaster had asked, he might as well let her know exactly why she was being crushed.
"Yes! You are far too vain, and you lack the talent to back it up. I cannot take you as my disciple. I hope you will reflect on your actions in the future."
Jane Lancaster said, "Then you’re certain you won’t regret this."
Quentin Woods almost couldn’t help but laugh. What was there for him to regret? It should be Jane Lancaster who was filled with regret. She shouldn’t have had such a poor attitude that day.
She had chased him for compensation money. To completely offend him over such a small amount of money was simply not worth the trouble.
’She must be sick with regret, which is why she’s spouting such nonsense.’
Jane Lancaster said, "Then you should return the apprenticeship gift immediately. You can’t just take the benefits without doing the work."
’Excellent. Hurry up and give me back my money, you scumbag!’
Quentin Woods: "..."
"Are you so furious you’ve lost your composure that you’re deliberately bringing up the apprenticeship gift?" Ian Lane almost laughed. "Fine, we’ll return it. What’s the big deal?"
Alvin Lancaster: "Wait a minute!"
How did they suddenly get to returning the gift? He couldn’t let the situation develop like this.
Alvin Lancaster hurriedly shot Luna Morgan a look. ’Hurry up and help calm Professor Woods down! We had an agreement!’
Luna Morgan snapped back to reality. The situation still felt surreal, as if she were walking on cotton, her heart feeling empty and ungrounded.
She couldn’t help but glance at Jane Lancaster again and started to feel a sliver of doubt. ’Could Miss Lancaster have been the one who cleared the game?’
’How is that possible? Miss Lancaster has never even studied art!’
"Miss Lancaster, could I see your phone?" She just wanted to confirm it with her own eyes.
After a pause, she forced a smile. "It seems your sense of color is even stronger than mine."
"How is that possible? Luna, you’re being too modest!" Ian Lane had long since figured her out; she was always considerate of others’ feelings, no matter the situation.
"Your talent is clearly far beyond ours. We all accepted you as our junior sister long ago. You shouldn’t put yourself down."
People in the crowd who knew Luna Morgan began to murmur amongst themselves.
"Miss Morgan is indeed smart, diligent, and a very fast learner."
"Her family background isn’t great, but she refuses to admit defeat. She’s a great problem-solver. If she doesn’t know something, she’ll study it until she’s mastered it."
"The key is that at her age, she’s not at all arrogant or complacent. She isn’t in a rush to cash in on her talents. She’s incredibly patient."
"It’s people like her who will achieve great things in the future!"
A smile touched Pauline Shaw’s lips. At this moment, she felt a deep sense of pride for Luna Morgan.
Someone so outstanding deserved to be in the spotlight, reaping both fame and fortune, not burdened by heavy shackles, hiding in a dark corner and refusing even to become famous.
After helping Adrian Lancaster clear the show The Tower of Wit last time, Luna Morgan had also gained quite a few fans who adored her.
At the time, many MCN agencies had extended olive branches, and even film and television companies sent her offers, feeling her image and disposition were perfect for debuting in a girl group.
But Luna Morgan refused them all. She had said, "Miss Lancaster is still in a coma. What right do I have to chase fame and fortune?"
"Luna, you’re the best!" Pauline Shaw said with a smile as she began to clap.
Willow Summers was about to die of anger. ’How can she be like this? Her own best friend is being insulted, and she’s busy congratulating someone else!’
Just as she was about to speak, two figures came to stand beside her.
"I told you Little Ian should’ve picked me. At least I’m not an ungrateful wolf," Sylvan said while cracking sunflower seeds.
For once, Cecilia Nash actually agreed with him. "...You’re right."
Pauline Shaw, of course, heard who the "ungrateful wolf" was referring to. Her expression stiffened, but she didn’t dare turn around and say a word in rebuttal.
"You know Jane Lancaster?" Beverly Lynch couldn’t help but ask. She felt the two of them looked familiar but couldn’t recall where she had seen them before.
Willow Summers, however, stared at the pair for a moment before letting out a small gasp.
Cecilia Nash smiled and shook her head at her, and Willow quickly covered her mouth and said no more.
"Want some seeds?" Sylvan generously offered some of his sunflower seeds to the two of them.
He and Cecilia Nash had been watching one good show after another from the corner, and these two young women seemed decent enough.
Beverly Lynch looked at the sunflower seeds pushed into her hand, a little bewildered. "Who are you? I don’t eat sunflower seeds."
Willow Summers pulled her aside and whispered a few words to her. Only then did it click. ’Are these two the "study gods" that Pauline Shaw and her clique used to worship back in high school?’
Beverly Lynch had never imagined that she, a total slacker, would one day receive favor from a "study god."
"Thanks," she said, a little awkwardly.
Sylvan said, "Don’t mention it."
