Extra's Path To Demon King

Chapter 555: Legacy of the Runes

The magic scepter in the Lich’s hand pulsed rhythmically, as it glowed brighter and brighter in a darkish hue, about to incinerate the Valkyrie to cinders.

Sophia watched this through gritted teeth; a bitter expression appeared on her face. In the end, she was destined to die so pathetically like this.

Drowning in regret and despair, all alone.

Because no one would come to save her,

No allies,

No friends,

No kings,

No angel would hear her prayers, no deity would grant her salvation.

No miracle would grace her, no luck would befall her.

Nothing would save her.

Because despite her status as the savior of humanity, in her heart she never saw herself as such a being, nor did she ever want to be a preordained champion of the Human Race.

Even though her appearance was that of the most beautiful woman in the world, she was only a psychopathic Monster underneath, a Monster in the guise of a human.

That’s why only another Monster like her own could hear her pleas, another Monster in the guise of a human, and no other entity.

At this moment, when Sophia was truly at the end of her rope, something unexpected occurred as the pulsing of the dark scepter paused; she noticed, from the corner of her eyes, how the bone hand of the High-Lich trembled ever so slightly.

Not only that, but most of the battlefield, which was filled with rune weapons of various types, whether they were being wielded by the seekers or were pinned to the ground, pierced through some corpse, all of them began to vibrate.

Sophia could not sense all of it happening or its sheer scale because she had no energy left in her reservoir. But she could see it happening as far as her eyes could naturally peer through.

Her gaze moved to the High-Lich and saw the confusion written all over his face.

She also became confused and unsure of what was happening.

As every single rune weapon vibrated at the same time, in the same frequency, throughout the battlefield, as if resonating with something or... SOMEONE.

Someone... who possessed the true legacy of the runes.

The rumbling of dark clouds above only grew louder with each passing moment, until the sun and crimson skies were blocked off; a shadow fell over the entire battlefield.

The vibration between all the Rune weapons synchronized, creating a metallic buzz that all could hear.

SHINNN!!!

SHIMMMM!!!

SHINGGGGG!!!

As the humming of an almost quarter-million Rune weapons spread throughout the battlefield reached a crescendo, the space beneath the crackling dark clouds swirled and twisted, the world Will itself manifesting a path to ease his arrival.

An indistinct figure walked out from the swirling point of space.

Before the entity could even manifest completely.

A blurry shape of a sword appeared in his hand, and the unknown figure pointed his sword upwards.

The moment he did so, all the rumbling black clouds covering the battlefield flashed so brightly in a bluish hue that most of the humans and ghost race combatants of the war had to close their eyes.

All the crackling thunder that was stored within the black clouds traveled at the speed of light and coalesced on top of the indistinct figure, enshrouding him completely.

As the blinding brilliance receded slightly, the countless onlookers watched in shock as the figure overflowed with blue destructive lightning from head to toe.

Bzzzzttt!!!

bshtttzzzttttt!!

Crackle!!!

The entity looked downward coldly at the sunken sockets of the High-Lich flickering in nether flames, and the instant the indistinct figure made the gesture of swinging his sword downward directly at the High-Lich.

All the accumulated destructive blue thunder covering his figure shot out at an inconceivable speed, tearing through the air, and an unprecedented sense of danger filled the Deathly Hollow’s mind.

So much so that the Lich was forced to move his scepter away immediately, which had been pointed at the Valkyrie; the power Zabiur had accumulated on the scepter to destroy the Valkyrie was now fired at the incoming arc of descending thunder, which seemed like a divine judgment rained from the heavens in his eyes.

As the terrifying Black Death ray produced by the Death Energy of the High-Lich met against the divine destruction thunder.

BOOOOOOOOOOMM!!!!

A calamitous explosion shook the entire battlefield, and the High-Lich found to his horror that his Death Ray could not contend against that blue lightning.

BAAAAANG!!!!!

The gargantuan pillar of blue lightning eventually pierced through the Death Ray and landed on top of the High-Lich with a resounding bang; it also broke through most of his automatic defensive mechanisms.

The High-Lich’s figure was hurled more than 500 meters away, unable to resist the power of that blue lightning.

Sophia, who seemed to have brushed shoulders against the grim reaper just moments ago, watched this scene in disbelief; for some strange reason, that powerful blue lightning, which seemed to have the power to destroy the world, did not harm her even in the slightest.

With a grunt, she looked higher as the beams of sunlight pierced the gaps in the dark clouds and landed on the indistinct figure; the blurry entity who had just shocked the entire battlefield with his unquestionable might was slowly revealed.

The figure wore a long white mage coat with blue stripes, majestic golden runes etched into the cloth by expert hands, runes that shimmered a golden hue in the sunlight; he had slightly long blue hair that reached his ears.

His blue hair danced in the wind like the waves of the sea, but perhaps his most striking feature was his eyes, which were Ocean Blue.

And in his blue pupils, the golden rune symbols representing the mystical Runic Eyes shimmered.

The eyes that only the Chosen One of the Runes could possess.

And for the first time in front of the whole world, the current holder of the Runic Eyes was revealed in all of his divine glory.

THE ABSOLUTE RUNECASTER, AXEL NOMRAD, HAD ARRIVED.

Sophia mumbled in shock, unable to believe her own eyes, "Axel...??"

At that moment, Axel’s figure became visible.

Every human, whether from the Minor or Great Kingdoms side,

Every undead,

Every onlooker or participant of the war,

Every mundane or powerful,

From the 1st to 5th phase, every single seeker....

All of their collective gazes fixated on the hovering majestic figure of Axel Nomrad.

There was not a single soul within the confines of this battlefield who did not know of Axel Nomrad’s name because 80% of all the Rune weapons being used by the Unified Army’s soldiers were made by none other than the Nomrad Heir himself.

And due to the Rune weapons’ perverse effects against any and every species of undead, the Ghost race members also came to know of the person who was responsible for the creation of such hateful tools.

It was precisely why the shock in their hearts was just that much greater, even exceeding the shock delivered by Osiris’s arrival, for the simple fact that everyone already had a preconceived notion in their hearts about the entity named Axel Nomrad.

In their minds, Axel Nomrad was an unprecedentedly talented runecaster, but in the end, it was just that. They could never have imagined his power to be so great that he could contend against an enemy whom even the Valkyrie felt hopeless against.

But the true significance of Axel’s Runic Eyes was far more than just being a cause of shock.

Even the four 6th-phase entities,

The Mid-6th-phase King of Suncrest, Leonidas Suncrest

Initial 6th-phase King of Blackvale, Rugen Blackvale

Initial 6th-phase King of Samartan, Uzbek Samartan

The Mid-6th-phase Commander of the third Ghost Legion, Zeledin Ulpranak

All those unfathomable entities who sat around the battlefield stirred.

For the first time, their complete attention landed on the battlefield since the very start of this bloody war.

Their harrowing gazes were fixated specifically on the possessor of the Runic Eyes.

Zeledin narrowed his eyes, somewhat taken aback by the ingenious display by the Absolute Runecaster.

But at the same time, he felt an innate revulsion when he looked into those divine eyes.

The Commander of the 3rd Ghost Legion whispered, his voice inhumane, "A complete counter to the very Death Energy of Zabiur? What a hateful Runic sorcery..."

"Even so, that won’t be enough to put down the Deathly Hollow....." added the mighty Death Knight darkly.

In contrast to Zeledin’s reaction, the expressions of the Three Great Kings had changed drastically; a frown had appeared on their faces, as if a bad memory from a forgotten past flashed through their minds, a scar in their hearts they would rather not remember.

But after a moment of consideration, a sigh of profound relief escaped from the lips of the Sun King as he smiled slightly; a part of him had been worried about the return of that old monster.

But since his grandson had now shown that he possessed the Runic Eyes, it signified that the previous holder of the Divine Eyes had died.

Leonidas’s gaze then turned incomparably cold when looking at Axel Nomrad, the young runecaster who just displayed such an overwhelming battle-prowess.

The Suncrest King could see the shadow of that same terrifying Old Runecaster hiding within the blue-eyed boy.

There was a reason why all three kings of humanity were so apprehensive of Damien Nomrad, and it was not because of his strength.

Or his Runic Eyes or his 7-star potential.

But an act committed by Damien Nomrad, which was so horrendous.

That all past records of it had been deleted due to its dreaded implications.

And now... that piece of information was known only to the Three Human Kings.
