Chapter 474 - 466: Red-Refined Blue Wings
"This is it! It couldn’t be more perfect." With a giggle, the Sun and Moon Immortal Spirit spun and floated high into the air. Countless crystalline streams of light swirled around her body, and in the blink of an eye, the luminescence completely engulfed her.
Immediately after, two soft hums emanated from the ball of light. The streams of light exploded, showering the area in starlight. A large and a small sword-shaped weapon, both flashing with red and blue light, now hovered where the Sun and Moon Immortal Spirit had been, each emitting a distinctly different glow.
"This is...!"
Mu Chen cried out, shooting up from his bed as his burning gaze locked onto the two longswords. He waited for a full half-minute before the light enveloping the swords gradually dissipated, their forms finally becoming perfectly clear before him.
"Red-Refined Blue Wings."
Like the clear ring of a bell, the Sun and Moon Immortal Spirit’s voice echoed from within Mu Chen’s Sea of Souls, telling him the name of the two longswords.
"Red Refinement is 2.6 meters long and two palms wide, nearly identical in size to the Profound Jade Fan. However, it has the unique property of a single Fire Attribute. Paired with your Nether Bone Arm, it should be able to unleash incredibly high Attack Power. Blue Wings is 2.3 meters long and eight fingers wide, making it slightly smaller than Red Refinement. But just like its counterpart, it has the unique property of a single Ice Attribute. It will also be able to unleash extremely high Attack Power when paired with your Profound Dragon Arm."
"Furthermore, Red-Refined Blue Wings are a set, commonly known as Mother and Child Swords. During battle, you can alternate your attacks with them unpredictably. You can make your opponent accustomed to the length of the shorter sword, only to catch them off guard with the reach of the longer one. Combined with your proficiency in the Nine Waves Technique and the Slicing Rune Technique, this should make things very difficult for your opponents. Oh, and by the way, Red-Refined Blue Wings are also Ninth Transition Immortal Soldiers—and they’ve already completed their Fifth Transition! So, what do you think? Aren’t they perfect for you?"
After cheerfully explaining the detailed properties of the two swords, the Sun and Moon Immortal Spirit asked proudly.
By now, Mu Chen couldn’t tear his eyes away from Red-Refined Blue Wings. His right hand subconsciously reached out to grasp one of them. As if sensing his thoughts, Red Refinement swooped down from the sky and landed right in his hand.
It was warm to the touch!
As the light faded, Red Refinement’s form completely surpassed Mu Chen’s expectations. Up close, the blade was dazzling, etched with intricate patterns. Three blood grooves ran its length, attesting to its immense destructive power. The sword hilt was carved into a ferocious, demon-like skull. A pair of wings extended from either side of the skull, forming a unique crossguard.
Without being infused with Primordial Power, Red Refinement was as quiet as a sleeping child. But Mu Chen was certain that once it was, the sword would become like the demon carved on its hilt and devour his enemies!
He lovingly stroked the surface of Red Refinement, unable to put it down, but soon noticed the other sword, Blue Wings, descending from the sky of its own accord and shooting toward his left hand. The Spiritual Power he had tempered in the Forest of Myriad Manifestations proved its worth; thanks to his heightened senses, Mu Chen simply reached out and caught it.
The moment he held both longswords, an inexplicable connection formed between them, as if he could feel their very emotions. He froze for a second, then turned his gaze to Blue Wings. He discovered its appearance was the polar opposite of Red Refinement. If Red Refinement was a Demon, then Blue Wings was an Angel.
Carved into the hilt of Blue Wings was a pair of Ice Wings exuding a frosty aura, which extended to form its crossguard. The ice-blue blade was a size smaller than Red Refinement’s, but without close inspection, it was difficult to tell them apart.
For Mu Chen, who stood at 1.85 meters tall, the two greatswords seemed a bit large. Yet, when he held them, they felt perfectly harmonious, without the slightest sense of awkwardness.
"They weigh about the same as the Profound Jade Fan," Mu Chen remarked in surprise after hefting them.
The Sun and Moon Immortal Spirit giggled. "Of course. That will help you adapt to them more quickly."
"But where am I supposed to keep them?" Mu Chen asked. "I just tried, and just like the Profound Jade Fan, these two swords can’t be put into my Storage Ring. It’s so strange."
"That’s to be expected," the Sun and Moon Immortal Spirit explained. "Once a Nine-Turn Immortal Soldier acknowledges a master, it will only remain by its master’s side. Although Storage Rings have different grades, they are far inferior to a Nine-Turn Immortal Soldier. Therefore, weapons of that grade and higher are unwilling to be kept inside one."
Hearing this, Mu Chen glanced at his Profound Jade Fan, which had never entered his Storage Ring, and was utterly shocked. ’The Profound Jade Fan was unwilling to even enter the Extreme Spirit Pearl, which is a Chaos Supreme Treasure! Does that mean its own grade surpasses even a Chaos Supreme Treasure?!’
The moment the thought appeared, Mu Chen buried it deep in his heart. ’No, that can’t be right. Even though the Profound Jade Fan’s power is so immense that I can’t even begin to comprehend it, there’s no way it surpasses a Chaos Supreme Treasure! Master never mentioned anything existing beyond them!’
"Whatever... Right now, I’m just wondering where I’m supposed to put these two greatswords. Don’t tell me I’ll have to carry them by hand everywhere I go." A dark expression crossed Mu Chen’s face as he imagined the strange looks he’d get from the other students at Holy Tomb Mountain. He was already frustrated enough when people mistook the sheathed Profound Jade Fan on his back for a coffin, but at least that could be covered up. If he was carrying two giant swords while eating, sleeping, and even going to the bathroom, who would dare approach him?
"Haha..." The Sun and Moon Immortal Spirit laughed mischievously. "Of course I wouldn’t let you run around like a brute. Look, here is the scabbard for Red-Refined Blue Wings!"
As she finished speaking, a stream of light flashed, and a unique scabbard appeared before Mu Chen. It was unique because Red-Refined Blue Wings were two separate longswords; someone like Li Ying would have needed two scabbards to sheathe them both. But the one that now appeared before Mu Chen was a single, integrated dual scabbard.
The two sheaths were positioned side-by-side, held together by three metal clasps. The scabbard for Blue Wings was set slightly higher than the Red Refining Scabbard, keeping the sword hilts level while the tips remained staggered, one long and one short. It was a peculiar design, but by no means ugly.
After sheathing Red-Refined Blue Wings, Mu Chen stroked his chin and eyed the 2.7-meter-long scabbard. He said sheepishly, "It seems I’m fated to always be carrying something on my back."
He shook his head. He had thought that after parting with the Profound Jade Fan, he could finally look a little more normal in public. Who would have thought that after setting down the Profound Jade Fan, he would end up carrying Red-Refined Blue Wings instead?
Despite his grumbling, Mu Chen quickly slung Red-Refined Blue Wings onto his back. He checked the time and saw it was already morning. According to Dilaka’s instructions, the first order of business after a new student’s arrival was to go to the head instructor on the first floor and receive a pass for unrestricted access to the Inner Mountain. Only with this pass could one freely enter and exit the Inner Mountain and the Five Elements Sacred Domain. It also served as a status symbol. Since Little Tiger and the others needed at least three days to recover before they could move about freely, Mu Chen had no choice but to go and register by himself.
However, at the very moment Mu Chen stepped out of his room, a different scene was unfolding in the Central State Region, not far from Holy Tomb Mountain, outside a Lake Heart Cottage beside a mountain stream.
"Young Master, Mu Chen has entered Holy Tomb Mountain. However, I’m afraid matters have somewhat exceeded your expectations."
A shadowy figure suddenly appeared in the bamboo grove of the Lake Heart Cottage. Before him stood a tall man dressed in an elegant, blue brocade robe.
From behind, the man’s figure was impeccably proportioned. He showed no surprise at the shadow’s words, turning slowly to say, "Oh? Exceeded my expectations? Do tell."
The moment his face was revealed, one could finally understand the meaning of "captivating eyes" and "refined gentleman." The man possessed a delicate beauty that any woman would envy, yet he did not appear effeminate. He had skin as fair as fine jade, yet he did not seem weak. This must be what they call a peerless genius.
He held a xiao flute in one hand, with the other behind his back, as he looked at the shadowy figure and asked with a hint of anticipation.
Dropping to one knee, the shadowy figure nodded. "Reporting to you, Young Master. You once said that with Mu Chen’s strength, passing the Holy Tomb Mountain assessment would be no problem. It appears now that your foresight is truly godlike..."
"Get to the point."
The cold, authoritative voice made the shadowy figure tremble. He quickly continued, "Mu Chen... he directly passed the Inner Mountain assessment and entered the Inner Holy Tomb Mountain. And he did so with the strength of a First-Ring Martial Sect."
The handsome man was taken aback. "You mean he skipped the Outer Mountain assessment and went straight into the Inner Mountain? As a First-Ring Martial Sect? How is that possible?"
The man in black replied, "It’s like this. For some unknown reason, the Nameless Saint raised the difficulty of this year’s Holy Tomb Mountain assessment to the level of the Inner Mountain’s. I initially thought Mu Chen would fail, but unexpectedly, he used an extremely bizarre Secret Technique to stun hundreds of Emperor Realm Martial Artists and successfully break through their ranks, thereby passing."
"A bizarre Secret Technique?" A smile tugged at the handsome man’s lips. "He never fails to surprise me. Straight into the Inner Holy Tomb Mountain, is it? That’s fine too. It gives me a better reason to buy him some time. After all, at his current Martial Artist Realm, he can’t even touch the fingernail of *that* person."
The shadow nodded and continued, "On a related note, there was a lot of activity at Holy Tomb Mountain this time. Even the Bingli Valley Master and the Dusk Shadow Asura showed up. Their power is so terrifying that I didn’t dare get too close, but I did manage to get another piece of good news."
The handsome man said, "Good news? Speak."
The man in black reported, "Mu Chen was taken in by Dilaka as his Closed-door Disciple! Although there was no formal ceremony, Dilaka already treats Mu Chen as his most favored student."
This time, the handsome man was truly stunned. "Dilaka actually took a disciple?" he exclaimed in astonishment. "Haha... The heavens are truly on my side. In that case, I have even more reason to buy time for Mu Chen. With a cultivation treasure like the Five Elements Sacred Domain, Dilaka’s personal guidance, and access to the Supreme Secret Scripture, *that* person will surely make an appearance at the Hidden Clan’s tournament a few years from now. Hei Jiu, continue tracking Mu Chen’s progress without alerting the Nameless Saint. I must go inform *her* of Mu Chen’s whereabouts; otherwise, she will be heartbroken again."
"And one more thing!"
Just as the shadowy figure was about to depart, the handsome man suddenly stopped him. "From now on, do not address Mu Chen by his full name," he said. "He is my future brother-in-law and, as such, an honored guest of my Tingyu Pavilion. You are to call him Young Master Chen."
"Yes! Your subordinate obeys!"
As soon as the words were spoken, the shadowy figure dispersed like smoke in the wind...
