Chapter 70
Year X780.
Marshall was ten years old this year.
Another peaceful half year passed without any major incidents.
Everything was going well for Marshall’s real body.
He was healthy, growing rapidly, and eating enough to make Virgo question whether his stomach contained its own spatial dimension.
His magic power had also risen at an astonishing rate, breaking past nine thousand. He had already caught up to Mira and was closing in on Erza.
At fifteen, Erza possessed roughly ten thousand magic power.
She had a strong chance of passing the S-Class Mage Trial by the end of the year and breaking Laxus’s record as Fairy Tail’s youngest S-Class Mage.
Mira had spent years chasing her and still hadn’t managed to catch up. She would probably qualify next year.
Cana might need another two years.
It was difficult to say.
Marshall himself had no intention of taking the trial anytime soon.
His real body currently possessed only two or three thousand magic power, since most of it remained allocated to the Thought Projection attending the academy.
He expected to graduate and obtain Super Archive Magic in X782, so he planned to wait until X783 before attempting the S-Class trial.
That would leave at least one opportunity for his beloved Cana-nee.
Life at the academy remained equally peaceful.
Nothing particularly unusual happened aside from Ultear becoming his constant follower.
Marshall still treated her with indifference.
She was far too calculating and ambitious, nothing like the straightforward companions he had in Fairy Tail.
Marshall simply didn’t like her very much.
If she insisted on following him, however, he might as well use her as a maid.
He certainly wasn’t going to spoil her.
In July, the academy year came to an end.
Marshall secured first place in the final examinations with another overwhelming lead.
[Archive Magic Quest Progress: 1/3]
The academy now entered a summer vacation lasting more than a month, leaving his Thought Projection with nowhere in particular to go.
Marshall decided to use the opportunity to expand his map.
He would travel across Fiore, explore new regions, and leave spatial coordinates behind for future teleportation.
Since the entire purpose was to unlock the map, taking a magic train would defeat the point.
Marshall chose to travel alone on foot.
Ever since arriving in this world, he had almost always been surrounded by companions.
Traveling without anyone beside him felt unexpectedly strange.
His journeys were still conducted on easy mode, though.
Marshall would walk throughout the day, leave a coordinate wherever he stopped, and disappear for the night.
The following morning, he would teleport back to the same location and continue onward.
Spatial Magic made traveling absurdly convenient.
Along the way, he visited countless villages that seemed to belong to entirely different worlds.
Some were primitive settlements where everyone dressed in animal hides.
Others were bizarre punk-style towns filled with technology far ahead of the surrounding era.
He even encountered giants standing more than ten meters tall.
The world was vast, strange, and endlessly fascinating.
Adventuring through another world really was exciting.
While passing through one village, Marshall helped the residents eliminate several Magical Beasts that had been destroying their farmland.
Afterward, a pretty village girl approached and asked whether he had any brothers.
Marshall wasn’t even using the Hanna identity anymore, yet she still somehow mistook him for a woman.
At this point, he had become numb to it.
When he explained that he was actually male, however, her eyes lit up with terrifying intensity.
She immediately began asking whether he would consider staying in the village and helping her start a family.
Marshall teleported away before she could finish.
If Gildarts had encountered the same situation, he probably would have agreed with hearts in his eyes.
No wonder that man loved traveling so much.
In the ordinary world, Mages were treated somewhat like immortals from cultivation stories.
To isolated villagers with little experience of magic, meeting a powerful Mage was practically the same as encountering a divine being.
Wanting such a person to marry into the village wasn’t particularly surprising.
Yet most ordinary people also lacked any proper fear of magical power.
The villagers from Mira’s hometown had dared to persecute someone they believed had become a demon.
Marshall didn’t know whether to praise Mira for being too kind or marvel at the courage that came from absolute ignorance.
The current situation seemed somewhat similar.
"A Rain Woman? What’s that?"
Marshall looked curiously at the enthusiastic villagers gathered around him.
"Sir Mage, there’s a girl living beside the river in the neighboring village," one man explained. "Wherever she stays, it rains without end."
"Sometimes the rain is useful, but I couldn’t bear living beneath permanent storm clouds, so I moved away."
"You’re a Mage from the big city and must know far more than we do. Could you solve the problem?"
He hesitated.
"Or perhaps take the Rain Woman away with you? We’re willing to offer payment."
"That sounds like the effect of magic," Marshall said. "How old is she?"
"Juvia is fourteen. I remember clearly because her parents died ten years ago."
The villager sighed.
"It hasn’t stopped raining over that village since. She’s a pitiful child, really."
"Interesting. I’ll go have a look."
Marshall fell into thought.
A naturally awakened magical talent powerful enough to influence the weather?
This sounded like another prodigy.
Perhaps he could conveniently bring her home and dump her on Makarov.
Having made his decision, Marshall looked toward the dark clouds in the distance and began walking.
As he approached, he discovered that the rain cloud covered only a small area.
Rain poured over the village and riverbank, while the land beyond remained bright and sunny, creating a bizarre boundary between the two climates.
Not wanting to soak his clothes, Marshall stopped just outside the curtain of rain.
The concentration of water-element magic in the air startled him.
It was practically overflowing.
Could a Mage truly alter the environment to this extent?
And if she had been consuming magic power continuously for ten years, how was she not exhausted?
Could she have awakened directly with Water Magic LV4, just as Marshall and Mira had awakened extremely advanced magic?
His Telepathy Magic had already located the "Rain Woman" at the center of the clouds.
Marshall greeted her from a distance.
[Hello. I apologize for disturbing you, but would it be possible to stop the rain outside for a moment?]
[Who... are you?]
[A traveling Mage. I heard that a Rain Woman lived here and came specifically to visit.]
[Would you be able to stop the rain?]
A long silence followed.
[...I’m sorry. I’m the Rain Woman.]
[Juvia hates the rain too, but wherever Juvia goes, it never stops.]
So she couldn’t control it properly.
Was uncontrollable passive activation simply a common problem among Level Four spells?
Allowing talent of this degree to remain buried in a tiny village was practically criminal.
[Would you mind if I visited your home? I’d like to become friends.]
[F-Friends?!]
[O-Of course! Please come in!]
Juvia had only just started rising to open the door when the air flashed.
A mysterious pink-haired figure appeared directly in front of her.
She gasped.
"What a h-handsome boy!"
Marshall’s mood instantly improved.
There were still people in this world with functioning eyes!
His initial opinion of the Rain Woman rose enormously.
The girl before him had wavy ocean-blue hair and wore thick, extremely conservative winter clothing.
A tall hat covered her head, leaving almost none of her skin exposed.
She held a small sunshine doll in one hand.
Her exaggerated expression was strangely adorable.
"H-H-Hello! Juvia is Juvia!"
She bowed frantically.
"Please take good care of Juvia for the rest of our lives!"
"?????????"
Marshall didn’t understand what she meant but politely shook her hand.
"It’s nice to meet you, Miss Juvia. I’m Marshall, a Mage who happened to be passing through."
"Nice to meet..."
Juvia’s face turned bright red.
"Is this a confession?! Juvia hasn’t prepared herself yet!"
"??"
What was this girl muttering about?
Why did she look as though intelligence had never properly reached her?
"I-I’m sorry! Juvia hasn’t spoken to anyone in a very long time!"
She flailed in panic.
"You’re so handsome that Juvia’s heart began racing!"
"No, wait! Juvia isn’t asking you to marry her!"
She clasped her hands.
"Did you come here to fall in love with Juvia?"
"???"
Was this girl completely obsessed with romance?
Her imagination could almost rival Levy’s most unhinged fantasies.
Marshall took a cautious step backward and gave her an awkward smile.
"Miss, please calm down. I only came here hoping to make a friend."
Juvia’s expression collapsed.
"You... hate Juvia too?"
Tears immediately filled her eyes.
"Juvia is sorry! Juvia will disappear from your sight!"
Her emotions surged with astonishing intensity.
"Wait—don’t!"
The next instant, a flood erupted from nowhere and swallowed the entire room.
Marshall teleported outside into the rain, but the sudden escape still left him completely drenched.
In the end, his clothes had gotten soaked anyway.
Water-element magic churned wildly through the air, surging in every direction as Juvia’s emotions spiraled out of control.
Marshall’s face grew hot with frustration at the sheer absurdity of the situation.
"That is enough!"
Light exploded from his body.
In an instant, Marshall transformed into a colossal Giant of Light towering one hundred meters above the land.
A massive pillar of radiance pierced the heavens.
Blinding light erupted from his enormous body, producing a violent gale that swept every cloud from the sky.
For the first time in years, sunlight poured down over the village.
Golden rays illuminated the towering Giant of Light, making him appear almost divine.
"The sky... cleared?"
Juvia, who had transformed into water and was preparing to flee through the river, stopped completely.
She stared at the brilliant blue sky.
Then she looked toward the radiant giant standing beneath it.
She couldn’t tear her eyes away from either sight.
’Can a person... be this .. good looking?’
