Falling Mage and the Power of Divergence
Episode 339: I Wanna Change My Mind A Little
"Shit, dude."
An idle region within the Dacrea Empire, the capital of the Dacrea Great Empire. Not only is there less movement of people there, but there are few signs of people in the first place. The main reason for this is the endless invisible cemetery that extends into the area.
The largest and most famous joint cemetery in the Dacrea Empire is a place with few visitors except those who visit the grave. There was a figure of a boy in a small cabin built near that cemetery. The grey-haired boy, who makes him feel as young as he still seems to be a teenager lying on a sofa placed inside the cabin, has been eyeing the joint cemetery that spreads out the window with a much sharper gaze from earlier.
The cabin where the boy is now is set up as a place for people visiting the cemetery to rest temporarily, but the boy has stayed in that cabin for over another week. On the contrary, the boy was monitoring a joint cemetery that spread out the window as he lay on the couch for most of the day.
"When the hell are you coming..."
The boy throws up as he sees one sword standing on a shelf that is placed near the couch. The sword is a sword that looks a little alien when it comes to swords, but it is a famous knife with a list. Even a famous knife is like a demon knife, and its name is Demon Sword Crimson Bloom. The Devil's Sword, which is fortified every time it blooms red hua, is definitely a sword made just to slay people.
That grip is also horrible. Continuing to use the Devil's Sword is an adventurer with a golden tag down his neck meaning A-rank adventurer. Even when it comes to adventurers, its main business is assassination, and its strength is not so much with platinum-grade adventurers who leave their names in history.
The boy's name is Jack. It is an organization as an independent institution different from the Adventurers Guild, an adventurer belonging to the Adventurers Union. Even so, Jack is a man who lives in darkness with a name belonging to the dark part whose main task is assassination among its unions of adventurers.
Unlike the Adventurer Guild, which coexists with the Demon Kings who rule the Dacrya Empire, the Adventurer Union was organized by adventurers who find themselves disgusted by the Demon King system. At the same time, however, they are contradictory organizations with the perception that the existence of the Demon King system is essential in the establishment of the existence of an adventurer, unlike the Demon Kings who list the Demon King system in that regard.
Speaking of this, their existential significance may seem very difficult, but in the end it is their sincerity that they want to behave as they please without interference from the Demon Kings.
But in one recent incident, a huge shock ran into their organization. It is the birth of a new Great Demon King. Adventurers who had previously resented the existence of the surrogate Demon King transformed their ideas into the birth of an authentic Great Demon King. Many adventurers were particularly affected by the power of Lucifer, whom the new Great Demon King showed at his inauguration.
It is new to my memory that the adventurers belonging to the Adventurers' Union, who had put up an anti-demonic king because of it, were attempting to leave and then a dark jack was being driven out for processing. But the job soon came with a piece. Though it is true that rumors have spread that if you are going to leave the Adventurers' Union to be exact, you will be killed, and that there are no more people trying to leave.
That's why I lost my job, Jack. As a new job, I was embarking on a recently rumored search for a grave. The mysterious existence that scratches the bodies of famous adventurers, including former demon king Asmodeus, even King, their substantial leader.
So Jack, free of hand, was interested in what kind of beings were doing grave vandalism, even trying to hunt and kill them with his own hands. But after a week of stakeouts, I couldn't see the rumored grave vandalism.
"Hey, come out"
Jack inadvertently speaks to the ceiling of the cabin. There can't even be someone on the ceiling because the cabin only exists on the ground floor, but the girl's voice returns to react to Jack's voice.
"Did you notice that?
"I'd be screwed a long time ago if they weren't so keen to kill me and notice"
"Oh, well. That's the same thing."
It was the blonde girl in the mask who showed up laughing with her asshole. The amazing thing about it would be that only the girl's upper body shows up as if it were growing out of the ceiling.
But in that strange sight, Jack stares at the girl who grew out of the ceiling without questioning her.
"So what does it look like?
"Suddenly I hear -?
"I'm a bad bug right now."
"That's the same thing."
"Shit."
Jack punches his tongue at the masked girl's answer, but never does anything to raise his hand. Because the masked girl is also an adventurer who belongs to the same dark area as Jack, and at the same time Jack and I have spent many years as work associates.
But even after years in the same workplace, the Jacks don't know each other very well. On the contrary, Jack has never even seen what the face looks like under the mask. But Jack never cared because he could work without knowing his face.
The masked girl I've dealt with as a work companion for years tells Jack what to do before he gets angry.
"First of all, I'm talking about the grave vandalism Jack's looking for."
"What?"
"Unfortunately, Jack's purpose will never be served."
"Dead?
"No, I'm not. But the grave is no longer in the capital."
"Shit."
Jack didn't listen back to anything more than just tongue-beating when he heard the fact alone. Normally I would ask back where he is, but I know Jack is futile when I hear back about it.
The masked girl is not as friendly as coming to tell Jack that. Probably just came by to tell you about your new job and then I told you about it. So Jack didn't ask back, he asked for the job.
"So, who do I kill?
"That's the difference this time."
"No way. You want me to torture you? I'm sorry, but that's a no."
"Too bad that's different, too. This mission is infiltration."
"Infiltration?
Jack listens back to a job he didn't expect. Jacques, who belongs in the dark, is predominantly engaged in the work behind him, including assassinations, and infiltration is part of that work. But infiltration often involves an infiltration specialist, and that specialist does not include Jack.
He is an adventurer who specializes in killing people and is the worst at infiltrating and such. Jack couldn't help wondering why he could let himself infiltrate.
"The infiltrator is the total main mountain of the Dedemonized Kings"
"What do you mean?
"It means the way it is. Above decided that the country would move with the birth of the Great Demon King Lucifer. That's why I want to show the new Great Demon King that we're harmless."
"I don't care."
The anti-demon kings to which Jack belongs are the ones who condone the existence of the demon kings but hate doing things to them. But this job seems against his will.
"That's how much concessions we need to make when we think about the future. Besides, if we don't do anything, they'll mistake us for demon kings."
"Damn......"
Jack who showed some understanding of his work intentions, but that's why I don't feel the need to go.
"Then you can let the others do it."
"That's not it. It's not going to work either. The ultimate goal of this job is the extermination of the Dedemonized Kings. I mean, at the end of the day, they all have to end up on the spot. If there's going to be any remnants of the party, the job fails. That's why I'm Jack."
"You know what?"
Jack finally understood his nominated intentions. The eyes seemed just a little happy.
